GHayduke Posted January 30, 2013 Posted January 30, 2013 My MJ came to me barely driveable and painted all White (over red) from a po. This is a barebones stock MJ with almost not options. I plan to add pictures as soon as I can get the site to do so, but it goes to URL & the pics are on my computer?? the help section did not explain this ???
GHayduke Posted February 1, 2013 Author Posted February 1, 2013 Here's my first picture of the Comanche hauling Hummer H2 wheels.. And after the initial body work..
GHayduke Posted February 25, 2013 Author Posted February 25, 2013 I got the photobucket links working! Boom: I removed the old grill and installed a full chrome set-up from a Cherokee Briarwood Edition Jeep. I then blacked around the nose so chrome is not touching yellow.....
GHayduke Posted February 25, 2013 Author Posted February 25, 2013 Masked the black and went to town section by section.....
GHayduke Posted February 25, 2013 Author Posted February 25, 2013 Then I accidently scratched the right passenger fender....... Oh, Wait... no that was on my other Jeep :laughin:
GHayduke Posted February 26, 2013 Author Posted February 26, 2013 More Farm & Fleet Tractor & Equipment "Transport Yellow" paint....
GHayduke Posted February 26, 2013 Author Posted February 26, 2013 I ordered Vinyl stickers for the tailgate and sides. This is heavy Salt Water Bouy vinyl so it looks black during the day, but when headlights hit it at night it reflects silvery white.
GHayduke Posted February 26, 2013 Author Posted February 26, 2013 It needs a final coat but is done for now......
GHayduke Posted February 26, 2013 Author Posted February 26, 2013 I need to repaint some Black areas and the flares. What Black paint will stick to the plastic fender flares?
zackcj7 Posted February 26, 2013 Posted February 26, 2013 I need to repaint some Black areas and the flares. What Black paint will stick to the plastic fender flares? Krylon Fusion works well on the fender flares. Did you use the Valspar tractor paint?
GHayduke Posted April 19, 2013 Author Posted April 19, 2013 Yes that's what it is... from Blain's Farm & Fleet in Wi.- Tractor & Equipment "Transport Yellow" : View Larger Share on emailShare on facebookShare on pinterest_shareMore Sharing Services0 Valspar Aerosol Tractor & Implement PaintBlain # 257152 | Mfr # 18-5339-07-76 I'm thinking of changing the color this season to a richer / darker yellow... maybe "Cub Cadet" yellow. I've not had good luch with Krylon, I'm really more of a Rust'o'leum guy... But maybe I'll try it. - Thanks
GHayduke Posted April 19, 2013 Author Posted April 19, 2013 The next step will be to do my engine compartment while it's open! My Comanche was clearly red before it was white..... Rainbow of fruit flavors?
ftpiercecracker1 Posted April 19, 2013 Posted April 19, 2013 How is that tractor paint working out? I have used it myself for smaller projects like inner fender wells and floor boards, but never considered doing the whole truck. How bad is the orange peel? Did you primer at all? or wet sand anything?
GHayduke Posted April 23, 2013 Author Posted April 23, 2013 I used white paint as primer mostly, & only true primer is trouble areas to fill in scratches, etc. Orange peal is not bad but you need to learn to work with the paint. It can go on a little heavier than normal spraypaint. It looks Very thick but is actually thin if you try to wet sand it or buff it. As always, the better the prep but better the final finish... I didn't get too carried away with prep, just decent... my paint is too thin as I buffed it... that was a mistake, I want to add a coat.
GHayduke Posted June 17, 2013 Author Posted June 17, 2013 After living with it awhile this paint is not nearly as tough as other Tractor Enamel I've used in the past. If you get Alcohol on it it gets soft again. I'm considering repainting after my 88-98 swap is done as I'll have several new panels going on: Doors, hood, fender..... I may choose to go with a different color as well....... Hmmm
GHayduke Posted September 30, 2013 Author Posted September 30, 2013 I'm thinking of two different paint ideas.. Blue or brown with wood grain panels like a Waggoneer... Or the below 1986 stripes. I think I'd have the stripes made in variations of orange on Brown like my old Scrambler colors....... So sort of like the colors below... maybe another color or two in the same family... What do you think????
ComancheKid45 Posted October 1, 2013 Posted October 1, 2013 Matching your CJ-8 would be pretty awesome! I can never hate on going back to a classic design ;)
GirsMJ86 Posted October 1, 2013 Posted October 1, 2013 Always wondered how that exact paint scheme would look on an MJ, sadly I can't say I'm much of a fan. I guess yellow is just purely a Wrangler thing in my eyes. For your new idea, I've always been a huge fan of those '86 4x4 hockey stick decals and have wanted to get them reproduced for a long time, but Waggy style sides and the rest a dark blue would be really sweet too. Not sure what color your interior is, but the dark blue Waggy look would go great with the factory tan interior.
GHayduke Posted October 1, 2013 Author Posted October 1, 2013 My interior is gray and black so at least it won't clash too much with anything.
GHayduke Posted January 29, 2014 Author Posted January 29, 2014 After living with this paint & would suggest sticking with Rustoleum Gloss Paint and prep with white or even better White Clean Metal Primer. This paint is not hard enough and gets soft with alcohol applied (some wipes off). The cap is Rustoleum gloss black and holds up more like I expect.
ComancheKid45 Posted February 1, 2014 Posted February 1, 2014 Still looks good. My 2 DIY paint jobs have a few spots that need touched up but overall have been holding up great as well.
DangerWillRbnsn Posted February 11, 2014 Posted February 11, 2014 Cool, and close-up pics of that paint job? I've been driveway prepping mine for posting. Trying to decide if I should paint or myself in the driveway, or take it to a booth. I have a friend with a booth, so leaning towards that.
