Zenobian_84
Like many others here, I decided to try my hand at refurbishing my backing board and curing the "Green Dandruff" syndrome the roof had. Used some cheap glue (thought at the time it would work, but was sadly wrong) and got a good 4 days out of the finished results before the FL heat dissolved the glue. Headliner board is in good shape overall, but I'd like to use something that won't dissolve in the 100+ degree summertime heat. Anyone got any good recommendations on a brand of adhesive; or something I can use in conjunction with the adhesive to get an even better finish? I thought about using some of this http://www.yourautotrim.com/perhittrimad.html ; has anyone used this before? I was going to take it somewhere to be refurbished a while back, but $90 was the cheapest I could get an estimate on. :ack:

Xacto
I put my headliner up with 3M 90 spray (green can) and it has held up through 2 summers and a winter so far. I'm in PA which isn't as hot as where you are, but we had some hot spells here and it is still good. I coated my crumbling backer board with fiberglass resin though which might provide a better surface to bond to than the stock board.
gogmorgo
Interesting... when I used a cheap spray adhesive to put my headliner back up, it failed because it got cold... I now keep a hat in the truck at all times. ;) Eventually I'll do it right with new fabric and a proper headliner adhesive.
Backdraft
Ive used the 3m 77 adhesive on the headliner in my XJ. That was before I knew 3m made some specifically for headliners. Anyway, it looked like a professional job and lasted 5 summers and winters in Texas before I sold it.
Carl'sMJ
I've used contact cement and some Permatex headliner and carpet adhesive that I bought at O'Reilly's... Both with good results.
ParadiseMJ
3M 77 7 yrs now. Still looks like the day I put it up...and that's on the XJ. I used 77 on the MJ too, 2 yrs. It's tight.

vaquaro
Like most things , the Prep. makes the job . The problem starts with the backer board deteriorating . So you need to stabilize that surface first . Fiberglass mat and resin or even resin alone works best but you can simply paint it as well to get a surface that the adhesive will bond to :typing:
a1500ram
Problem actually starts with the foam backing on the headliner material deteriorating. Then over time the headliner panel fails due to delamination of the fibers. I recommend any high heat rated spray adhesive and one example would be 3m90 which can be purchased from Lowe's, Home Depot, or your local autoparts store. I am glad for those that used 3m77 to have lasted so long. I have seen several failures from using 3m77...it does cost less than 3m90, but if yours fail after 3 or 4 days then your going to turn around and probably purchase more adhesive. ZJ_flexxxer
like most others have said here. use the 3M. i recovered my headliner with some regular spray glue and it failed. i then tried re-gluing it 2 more times with the cheap stuff and finally found some 3M headliner spray at my local o'reilly's and it worked great. still looking good after a few months. 91Pioneer
Anyone got any good recommendations on a brand of adhesive; or something I can use in conjunction with the adhesive to get an even better finish?????? I used a can of Norton stuff (professional) but needed more so I bought Permatex http://amzn.to/1X2XNld It's not the adhesive that gives you a better finish, it's all in the fabric and how well you can install it. I did my first one not that long ago and I was pretty happy. See my build thread on my 92 for pics.
