Bench Seat Head Rests ,....

Has anyone modded a factory bench seat to allow for head rests,... After my recent accident I would really like to have them in case it ever happens again

I haven't thought of modding a factory bench, but have thought about a bar which goes across the back that has two headrests:

 

This hypothetical bar would mount to the inside b-pillar, allowing the exterior trim piece to perhaps cover bolts which would hold it in place. Could be straight, could be wavy similar to a Miata rollbar, but with headrests. Consideration would have to be taken for seat belt mounting and interference. Alternately, a squared a-frame that bolts to the rearmost cab floor and the back wall which has headrests could be built.

My bench has head rest and it was factory you may be able to find one in scrap yard with them already (link to pic http://comancheclub.com/topic/35789-ncbench-seat-no-brackets-or-rails-free/)

Some seat covers include built-in headrests.

Didn't do the Googling, but you should be able to find something on the 'Interweb'. (Eastwood in "Trouble with the Curve")

If I were to do it, I'd start with stripping the seat down to the frame and do the same with a bucket just to see the difference. Rymanrph had it done on his old '88.

only the first couple years didn't have headrests. anything after that would work for a donor. :thumbsup:

If someone were so motivated, you could fab in a pair of the Dodge Dakota rear window headrests form the crew cab models. They mount to the body above and below the window. Might be an option.

Ebay has head rests for Comanche.

I checked my bench and there are no holes for them. But, I'm sure you master fabricators can make them work. :wrench:

Stuff an old cushion behind the back of the seat, instant head rest, no fabrication required :)
