Knucklehead97
Hey guys. Well, in about 2 weeks I should be to where I can finally buy my first truck. Which I really want to be a Comanche. So I decided to post this for some help searching for the one I want. (Mods if this was the wrong place to post this, I'm sorry. I was planning on posting another one in the wanted section when I officially have the money to buy with.) What I'm looking for is a Comanche near Northeast Alabama (I don't think my family will drive me very far, and I'm about 4 months away from my license. I'm in Gadsden.) I need it to be a '89 1/2 or higher year model because my father doesnt want me to be stuck with a Peugot (did I spell that right?) tranny. 4.0L inline 6 cylinder engine. 5-speed transmission and 4 wheel drive. I'd really love if it was a longbed because I need the extra space for loads, but if I have to I'll take a shortbed. Surface rust at most would be great, but I know it's hard to find one without alot of rust. I really need it to all run good and not have any major problems. If you guys around northern AL would just help me a little with finding this all, I would really appreciate it. Thanks. Knucklehead97

The price is good $2,500. I have all the parts that could complete it just laying around. http://www.searchtempest.com/results.php?location=35759&maxDist=200®ion_us=1&search_string=Comanche&keytype=adv&Region=na&cityselect=zip&page=0&category=8&hasPic=1&subcat=cta&minAsk=1&maxAsk= If you are coming through Huntsville to go see one I can tag along to help inspect it. I know enough about them after tearing one apart to know what all the do not buy signs would be.
Knucklehead97
Wow. Thank you very much for the help, I didnt expect to get a reply that fast. I would deffinetely jump after that 2,500 one if I had the money right now :/ And I really appreciate the offer for coming to help inspect one if we're passing through. Sadly, It's looking like my buying is going to be pushed back another month or so though. My father is having some health issues and can't really drive right now. I'm going to keep searching though and hopefully by the time I get the money he'll be healed enough. Once again, thanks alot. Knucklehead97
Officially have the money in my name, and my dads feeling much better  I've checked all the nearby Craigslists, and nothings popped up yet, I check them every couple days just in case one comes up. Are there any other sites like Craigslist? If any of you around Northern AL may know someone selling one that nearly fits the specs I added in my first post, please inform me  Knucklehead97

And when i was trying to buy one, i checked craigslist a couple times a day, like 5 or 6 times, so if anything popped up i'd be first to call! Knucklehead97
Thanks! I found a local online yardsale for the county I'm in, maybe one of the Comanches I've seen driving around will be on it  Theres a nice white one with a black interior that I saw last year  If it wasnt for my dad wanting me to have an AX-15 transmission instead of the crappy BA10/5, I'd already have found a Comanche to purchase >.< Of course I'd rather have the AX-15, but it's hard to find a comanche with one, that someones wanting to get rid of. johnj92131
Welcome to the ComancheClub. And best wishes for your search. It would be good if you posted your location so we know not to send you great trucks like this one, because they are too far away from you. Here is a good looking Comanche for $2700 http://sandiego.crai...3334447907.html The phone number is in Los Angeles, not San Diego. <------ See my location right here. Again, welcome and best of luck.
Dadinator
I wouldn't let the BA/10 scare you away if it is the right truck. Run it until it breaks then swap in a Ax15. My truck started out as an automatic. It now sports an AX15.

Thanks for the good wishes  And I posted my location in the starting post in this topic, here "What I'm looking for is a Comanche near Northeast Alabama (I don't think my family will drive me very far, and I'm about 4 months away from my license. I'm in Gadsden.)" I'll add my location to my profile as soon as I can. I wouldn't let the BA/10 scare you away if it is the right truck. Run it until it breaks then swap in a Ax15. My truck started out as an automatic. It now sports an AX15. I'm going to talk to my dad about it, he just really wants me to have something reliable that won't leave me on the side of the road with a shattered transmission gear :dunno: (bad experiance with my brothers automatic transmission when we were tweaking the connection. Ended up cutting out when we were going up a steep hill) One of the problems with me swapping out a transmission, is I have a comeplete dirt yard. So theres no rolling being done at all for swapping one out :hmm: If it comes down to it I'm sure he'll allow me to get one with a BA10/5 Theres a blue Chief in great condition on Craigslist, I know thats the rarest color to have :brows: Thanks. drcomanche
If you're having trouble navigating Craigslist through all the different areas, use Autotempest.com. It gives you a distance from location option and searches all viable areas in craigslist, as well as searching a bunch of other popular websites like Ebay, Autotrader, Etc. Really helps streamline the whole deal.
mountainman
Good luck on your search. :) hope you find a manch.
Knucklehead97
Thanks  I checked Autotempest and there wasnt anything more then what I had already found. Yesterday I walked with a friend to a house that had a nice Comanche sitting there, but the guy was addicted and wouldnt sell :hmm: Hopefully one will come up soon. I talked my dad into letting me get one with a BA10/5, so my options are more open now. Not many of them left for selling around here. jimoshel
I've gone thru more tanks of gas than I have BA-10'S, so they can't be to bad. Seriously, I've got a couple XJ with over 200K on them and BA-10's. It's pretty well established that the AX-15 is superior to the BA-10, but I certainly wouldn't reject an otherwise nice Jeep just because of the transmission. Use it as a bargaining point to get the price down but don't reject it.
Knucklehead97
well guys I don't think I'm going to have to worry about a BA/10. A VERY nice Comanche just appeared near me on Craigslist, only problem is the guys wanting 3600 :dunno: I'm probably going to meet him and try to talk him down, but here's the link to the sell page, tell me what you think  http://gadsden.craigslist.org/cto/3372743655.html What would you guys offer him? I was thinking at most 2800

If you buy it, I'll send you a taillight for free. :) I'd really appreciate that man  And I will be taking as many precautions as possible, such as carfax and checking every inch of it. If the guy hasnt sold it by this weekend, we're going to meet up so I can inspect it. He said the price is pretty firm but he might go down to 3200. So I'm bringing a KBB report for a 92' shortbed with everything his has, to try to lower the price some more cause KBB says it's worth about half what he's asking  Hopefully I'll be able to bring it home for around 3000, i'll be very happy at that price. The taillight is deffinetely going to be brought up :rotf: Knucklehead97
johnnyc
Good luck to you. I'll have the taillight ready to mail out. :) In '08, I paid $2000 for my 92 shortbed. Totally straight, no rust, and with a Dana 44. The one you're looking at looks nicer than mine did though.

johnnyc
Thanks Don. My current plan is to lower the truck back down and run 31s. The lady I bought the truck from was the second owner, but had owned it since '92. She was originally asking $2500. I asked her if she would take $2000 if I took a tour bus to Vegas to pick it up. She said yes.
HOrnbrod
Great plan to bring her back. A $500 discount for a nice relaxing A/C bus tour to Vegas, meet, greet, pay up, gamble a bit, enjoy the Vegas ambience, win some $$ (probably not), then ride home in style. That don't happen in 'Bama.
