sinkrun
I read quite often on here where members Comanches get hit and think what the chance. Well today it was my turn I was coming to a light a 18 year old or so girl in a Hyundai was looking the other way at a fire scene as she turned to come up the street I was sitting on and drove the whole way into my lane and hit me head on. I was stopped wasnt even the whole way to the signal light about a car length away. I laid on the horn and braced for what was coming. She hit me pretty hard I swear she hit the gas instead of the brake. Best thing was there was a city cop standing right along side where it happened no more than 8 feet away he witnessed the whole thing. It really messed up her car big time I have pics but need to figure out how to get them from my phone to the computer. Good thing I wasnt hurt as the cop (who told me to calm down when I yelled Stupid _____________ _____) ran to her car as did all the fireman. I think I would still be lying there don't get me wrong I like cute girls also but not when the hit my truck. Truck is not to bad, bumper is bushed back, plastic trim messed up, fenders kinked out, grill may be cracked. I have a brush guard on it and it took the most force didnt bend it that I can tell but it is loose. I almost took that guard off last week glad I didnt. She has Progressive insurance which my brother in law is a adjuster for the area. We will see if he trys to screws me. I already called him and told him if he gives me any $#!& I will fight him all the way. Were just not that close. I wish I had been in my XJ thats all rust as I just finished my rockers on my MJ took me 3 weeks just got it out today.
mountainman
i JUST finished doing this repair to my truck. The PO fell asleep at the wheel and hit a big lexus. So if you need any help or parts let me know. I'm sure the insurance will want to total your truck. They always do. The "fair market value" will be way less than what a body shop will ream you for to repair it. So.. buy back the truck for 200 bucks and take the check they give you and fix it. :)

mpace6a
Ouch! Thankfully our trucks are pretty tough, and lucky you had the brush guard on still!
Automan2164
Good to hear you are in good shape, and it sounds like the MJ fared pretty well. A brush guard has saved a few of my vehicles from heavy damage. Small investment that pays off in a pinch. Rob
sinkrun
Yea I was very shocked how well the truck came out if it wasnt for the bowed fender I could bull the bumper out and you would never know it was hit. I am hoping when I take the bumper off the fender will pop back in. I will get a pic of the truck Tuesday.
88pioneer
Yea, I'm sure you can fix it. Had an accident with mine a while back. Started with this. And ended with this after a few hours of work.
danbyrambler
Rotten luck for sure - Might be time to try & make a little lemonade - Make sure to save the highest repair estimate/valuation of the MJ - Don't know how you file taxes but if you itemize you may be able to use the payoff difference as an uninsured loss - depends upon your adjusted gross - BTW how's your neck feel? Have you mentioned the law offices of Dewey, Cheatem & Howe to your BIW? - - - LOL 2nd part's BS - Tax thing isn't :smart:
sinkrun
Well my brother in law did not have the guts to deal with me as I figured. The adjuster called and first thing he said without any mention of it from me was this trucks 23 years old we will not be fixing it it. I told right then like _____. Then went into my rant about how much moneys in this truck and what it books for. He said he had no idea they booked for so much and he would look. When he showed up he did his pictures and such and was decent then and said he would figure it up and the company would mail a check. Then I reminded him that they should as it was there ___________ customer that hit me head on. He did also mention that the truck was in really decent shape. I did detail the truck and did the finishing touches on the interior after my floor board and rocker panel job since I read on the net they look for overall condition when deciding on a price and weather or not to fix a old or classic vehicle. And he did do pictures of every side and the inside so it must matter. So now it wait to see whit to see what they give me I am thinking its around 1000.00?? I could fix it for a fraction of that myself.
Automan2164
Be sure to email him/remind him of the collector price, since it is a "23 year old truck"... http://www.nadaguides.com/Classic-Cars/ ... kup/Values Pricing MSRP LOW AVE. HIGH TOTAL PRICE $8,259 $2,550 $5,525 $8,400* Rob
sinkrun
Forgot to follow up on this they actually gave me more than the body shop estimate not that I am having a shop do it just wanted to compare. Body shop was around 650.00 and the insurance was over $1000.00. The only thing real bad are the bumper brackets and a ever so slight bulge in the fender. I was planning on painting the whole truch this winter anyway so this should cover most of it. HOWEVER, A few days ago I get a summons for a hearing from the city. Shes trying to fight it somehow over something it dosent say why. I googled her fathers name since its was a MR _________ III and guess what hes a layer in the city. A cop a 3 fireman watched her hit me so I don't know what hes up to but i hope they let her have it.

Stacks
Glad you're OK and hope she gets what's coming to her!! I will go check and see but I think I still have my stock bumper mount brackets left from my recent bumper build. If you need them let me know. Collecting dust here!! Keyav8r
Any time you're hit by someone, have the police call the paramedics and go to the emergency room. Get checked over really well and get on record any thing you're feeling or think you may feel. Having the ER visit on record makes the adjusters be a little more friendly. I didn't follow this advice when a kid rear-ended me on I-65 and totaled my GMC. Adjuster tried to play it all down due to the mileage on the truck (used it for business so the miles piled up quickly but the truck was in great shape). Bottom line, if it ain't your fault, you shouldn't suffer any loss.

Just because her 'daddy' is Mr. big time lawyer doesnt mean she is above the law. If she already has so many points she obviously doesnt need to be driving, give her a bicycle or a scooter, so she won't be a danger to other, more responsible drivers. sorry, this kinda thing gets me irritated. :soap box: Carry on, ftpiercecracker
sinkrun
I was pissed at myself for a while also I wish I would have asked the cop why he gets special treatment when she does something so stupid and could he live with himself when she hurts someone next time. Lee21490
You think thats bad.. About a year and a half ago~ My mom had some neck surgery done (something about grinding disks) She got let out the day after because we always stop in and check in on her. Anyways she went to the store to get her pain meds filled (sister drove her) Walked about halfway through the lot & A lady talking on her cell phone (Its illegal to be on your phone while driving here now) backed out of a parking spot & ran her down. She ended up splayed on the back of the car, Broke her ankle.. Broke her neck. The lady basically only knew spanish, Got out of her car and called a few different people on her phone, My sister finally saw my mom on the ground and ran over & turns out the lady didnt even call the 'medics / cops. She was on the phone with her son & her husband. Anyways cops show up, Ambulance takes my mom to the hospital (She had been out for maybe an hour..) Cops asked if she had insurance, she said yes & gave them her papers. They called them in and turns out she was written in the insurance to NOT DRIVE any of the cars they owned, as she had a TERRIBLE record of accidents / speeding / etc. So of course what does the cop do? Lets her drive away. Not a single ticket. No classes on being a safer driver. Not even a slap on the wrist. Just let her go. And of course since she was written out of the insurance, We couldnt sue or anything because the insurance wouldnt pay a damn die. And the lady would just do bankruptsy. /hijacked thread. ftpiercecracker1
That sucks Lee21490, :shake: . What i think is really F'ed up is the need to buy "uninsured motorist" insurance. So basically i have to pay extra, just in case the person that hits me does not have insurance.

It's also for hit and runs, and stuff like if a quad runs into you (Have a big dent from one haha) ANd its usually not that much extra.. I think i paid a total of $100~ for 6 months of PIP & UM together.
