CHINOTJ
I have a question guys, is there any difference between xj 6 cylinder front coil springs and zj 6 cyl coil springs? I am looking for a little more lift on my MJ around 1 inch, and I was wondering if I could use zj 6 cyl coil springs since they are common on junk yards here, would they give me 1" lift? I was also thinking on ZJ V8 coil springs but I think it would be 2 much of a lift since my MJ is 4 cylinder and it would leave my suspension very stiff and since its my DD i want a nice soft ride, so what are your suggestions for 1" lift on 4cylinder MJ? Which coil springs would you recommend me for 1" lift and a soft ride? Thanks for your help. :wrench:
Geonovast
I'm not certain about the ZJ 4.0 front coils, but I used XJ 4.0 coils on my 2.5 MJ, and it raised it up about 1 1/2 inches.
Eagle
XJ Up Country front coils, which ride 1" higher than stock for a 4.0L, are the same part numbers as ZJ V8 springs, not 6-cylinder ZJ. That's for a 6-cylinder. Since you have a 4-cylinder, 6-cylinder ZJ coils should give you some lift but I don't know how much.
mnkyboy
For such a small lift I would just do a coil spacer then you can keep your stock springs and smoother ride.
Glenn Moyer
I did the 1.5 spacer with the XJ coils and yes it is front end STIFF. Got about 2.5 to 3 inches of lift though. Glenn
CHINOTJ
I'm not certain about the ZJ 4.0 front coils, but I used XJ 4.0 coils on my 2.5 MJ, and it raised it up about 1 1/2 inches. 1.5" seems pretty good, So after you put the xj 4.0 coils did your suspension get very stiff? Sorry I forgot to mention this is my current suspension setup. I have original coil psrings with 1.75" coil spacers, wich give me about 1 inch higher than stock, but i would like another inc of lift. Thanks
mnkyboy
How about some OME930 coils and maybe a small spacer,IMO that's gonna give you the best ride.
shawn
if you already have that spacer, it sounds like you want/need to simply install 3"" lift coils and call it done. that's what's on my silver '86 pictured below.
carnuck
I tried ZJ front coils in mine and it dropped! It's supposed to be the rear coils that are taller.
mvusse
Rear ZJ coils are shorter than the front. A popular way to lift the rear of a ZJ is to use front coils. When I lifted Sparkles I first used 1.75" spacers, but my bastard rear spring pack sat higher. I then used a pair of new Moog V8 ZJ front coils (and kept the spacers) and gained another 2". Assuming the original springs had sagged 1" over time, the V8 ZJ springs sit 1" higher than XJ/MJ 6 cylinder coils.
