1.5" seems pretty good, So after you put the xj 4.0 coils did your suspension get very stiff? Sorry I forgot to mention this is my current suspension setup. I have original coil psrings with 1.75" coil spacers, wich give me about 1 inch higher than stock, but i would like another inc of lift. Thanks

I have a question guys, is there any difference between xj 6 cylinder front coil springs and zj 6 cyl coil springs? I am looking for a little more lift on my MJ around 1 inch, and I was wondering if I could use zj 6 cyl coil springs since they are common on junk yards here, would they give me 1" lift? I was also thinking on ZJ V8 coil springs but I think it would be 2 much of a lift since my MJ is 4 cylinder and it would leave my suspension very stiff and since its my DD i want a nice soft ride, so what are your suggestions for 1" lift on 4cylinder MJ? Which coil springs would you recommend me for 1" lift and a soft ride? Thanks for your help. :wrench:

Suspension feeling a little bumpy....
CHINOTJ replied to CHINOTJ's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I have been absent a couple of months but I am getting back in to this. I put the zj sway bar wich is larger diameter but i also made sure to put correct bushings on it, actually I had to go twice to the store the first ones they sold me where for thinner sway bar and they couldnt fit so I had to go and get the correct ones. The shocks I have are stock shocks I don't know part number or size since I just went to replace them at a tire shop, only thing I know is they are duralast. Tires are 30x9.5 r15 General grabbers, with around 36psi, the upa are from wj with new bushings, the lca are aftermarket round tube. When putting new Polyurethane bushings on the leaf springs should I just burn the rubber bushing on the leaf spring and leave the metal housing there and introduce the poly busihng or should I just remove the whole bushing togeteher with the round metal housing and introduce only the poly bushing? After a couple of monhts of usemy rinde is a little softer on the front but the back needs a little improvement and since i havent replaced the leaf bushings I think its a good time to do it. Thanks for your help -
Thanks for your suggestions but the stock location of the back speakers is covered by my subwoofer box so I can not place them there, i noticed that there is a speaker bar that comes on the Xj wich has 6.5" speakers attached to the roof, i will try to fit one of those to the back roof of my mj and see how it sounds. Thanks. :wrench:

Tapping/Rattling Noise on transmission please help.
CHINOTJ replied to CHINOTJ's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Hi The only thing pending was to open the tranny, but I didnt want to go that far so after checking the pilot bearing and cleaning everything on my clutch i put the tranny back on just to find out that the noise was still there :( my fear came thru, it was the tranny so just to confirm i called a buddy of my that is very experienced in jeeps for him to hear the noise and he confirmed also that the tranny was broken and he said he could fix it after i take it back out. I want to thank you all for your help on this, hopefully this new year will be better for my MJ!! :wrench: -
I am in need of your knowledge once again, I have looked for this for hours but found nothing on the internet, I read that it is possible to convert AX5 from internal to external slave cylinder, and also read that AX4 and AX5 are almost identical except for the 5th gear. So can AX4 be turned to external slave cylinder? this due to my transmission is in pretty good shape so I would like to keep it. If so what are the parts that I would be needing? and if possible could you confirm from wich years do I need the parts? Thank you for your help. :help:

Tapping/Rattling Noise on transmission please help.
CHINOTJ replied to CHINOTJ's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Thanks for the info. :wrench: My MJ is 2wd so tcase to 4x4 is one thing less to check, but how can I check if the Input bearing/gear on the transmission is working fine? my trans is still down. I checked the release/throw bearing and its workng OK i am using this type of slave cylinder. http://jeep.zerok.ru/images/c-liter/clu ... 7899dd.jpg What I am missing is the retainer nut, when I pulled outr the tranny it wasnt there, the slave cylinder was loosen, what can I use as a retainer nut? any tips to keep the internal slave cylinder in place? Thanks for the feed back. -
I have infinity 6 1/2 component on the doors I just removed the grill covers on the doors and made the hole a little wider to fit them no major modifications, I wired them directly to the stereo, and since i put a 12" sony shallow sub on the back of the seat with a sony class D amplifier, I didnt put any speakers on the 4x6 speaker stock place due to the subwoofer box covers them, it sounds pretty nice, I recommend this setup. Thanks.

Hi Guys, Finally I have some vacation due to this holidays and I was planning to lift mi MJ 2 inches but 1 day before X-mas I got an unwanted gift! =( it seems something wrong with my transmission, i was driving on the boulevard when all of a suddent I started to hear a tapping/rattling noise, on third gear, so I pulled over just to have a quick look and everything seemed OK on the bottom of my MJ so I decided to head back home to check on it and then the noise started to get louder, then all of the gears started to sound 1,2,3,4 gear even in neutral, but when i pushed the clutch pedal the noise stopped, as son as i release the clutch pedal the noise comes back again, I thougth maybe there was something wrong with my clutch so I took the tranny down today and also the clutch but everything seemed OK, the only thing I noticed was the internal Slave cylinder on my transmision was loose. I put a new clutch about 1 year ago, I did it my self, and everything was working fine until 3 months ago my slave cylinder got damanged and due to its my daily driver and I didnt have time to change it due to work, I had to take it to a local repair shop to have it replaced, (they charged me 100 bucks for the change plus 90 bucks for the new slave cylinder $190.00 total). Today when I took the transmision out I didnt notice anything wrong on it or on the clutch, the only thing that cought my eye was that the slave cylinder was loosen, after checking on the internet it seems it needs a retainer nut in order to stay in place but It didnt have it, do you think this could be the couse of the noise? would any of you have a picture of the retainer nut for my reference? is there anything else that can be done in order to keep the slave cylinder in place? I also noticed the crankshaft bushing was very dry and I will replace it tomorrow but I don't think that would make a tapping noise like that. My MJ is a 4 cyl (2.5L), 4 speed manual transmision. Please give me your comments and as always thank you for your help. Thanks :wrench:

Hi Guys, I would like to have your opinion regarding the speaker installation in the back of my MJ. Has any one done this speaker modification? http://carphotos.cardomain.com/ride_ima ... _large.jpg I think it would be better to have them thera than down on the OEM 4X6 location, but would some one recomend it? And if you have done it, what were the dimensions from the speakers you installed, because I imagine that there is not much space for a big magnet there. Would you have pictures of the installation process? Thanks :hmm:

Problems to start my MJ :( I need help!!
CHINOTJ posted a topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Hi I am having problems to start my engine, on the past week all of a sudent my MJ doesnt want to start, I do get the crank from the starter but the issue is that it won't start because of this my battery got wasted for trying to turn it on without succes, so I replaced the battery for new one, now sometimes after I give it a try after 10 times it starts, and then no issues it won't turn of or anything, what I have noticed is that when I tried to starte it many times and it doesnt turn on, the negative battery terminal gets very hot, and also when I open the key before I give it the crank the battery meter on the instrument cluster measures around 6 volts only, is that normal? What should I check first? please help me fix it since its my daily driver and I use it to go to school and work, I will try to fix it this weekend. Thank you!! :dunno: -
Suspension feeling a little bumpy....
CHINOTJ replied to CHINOTJ's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Hi, Today I changed the links on my sway bar, I bought new ons for 92+ cherokee and it feels better and softer. And the bushings i used when I replaced my sway bar were new bushings from a ZJ not from an MJ, so they were the correct ones. And when I put 3/4 of an inch I typed wrong, what I have are 1 3/4" inch. Going back to my drive shaft question how can I check if its in good condition? Thanks. -
Suspension feeling a little bumpy....
CHINOTJ replied to CHINOTJ's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Hi Guys, Thanks for our feed back, I really appreciate it, I think I will be getting XJ 92+ sway bar links since they are easier for me to get a hold of. Regarding the tires I am runnng are General grabbers AT2 all terrain, 30X9.5 R15, Tire preasure 38Psi, The Control arm bushings are new I replaced them together with the control arms. Today I noticed that the vibration i am feeling is only in neutral position, if I am going on 4th gear and accelerating I don't get vibration but as soon as stop accelerating and put in neutral position it starts go vibrate, could it be the drive shaft? how can i check if my drive shaft is in good condition? Thank you in advanced. -
Hi Guys, I am in need of your knowledge again, I have been trying to improve my MJ suspension feeling, make it a little softer, I starded replacing the fallowing components. First thing I did is put a 3/4 of an inche coil spacer on the front in order to level the car because it was a little lower on the fornt when i bought it 8 months ago, then 6 Months ago I replaced the 5 shock absorvers with new ones, one for each tire and the one on the front suspension, and also replaced track bar, 5 months ago I replacede the stock sway bar with a ZJ V8 Sway bar with new bushings, 4 months Ago i bought the links from the sway bar, and installed new ones on wich I have a question. When I removed the old links from my MJ the car the truck lisfted about 1 inch from tire to fender automatically as soon as I loosen up the bolts, is this normal? when I put the new ones I had to sit 3 people on the hood of my car in order to make it go lower and install the new OEM links, did I do it correctly or should i buy 3/4 of an inch longer links to put in to my suspension? i Since yestarday, I noticed that my when i got my truck to speed over 50 M/H, velocity and then put it in neutral gear it started to feel a little shaky on the suspension, would any body have any idea why this would be happening? Is there any thing else i need to change in order to make my suspension feel smoother? Thank you for your help as always. :huh???:

Maybe this question is obvios for some of you but I need to ask, will a wrangler 4 cyl motor fit my MJ 4 cyl? what would I need to modify? The reason is my motor is not in the best shape and I am getting an offer on a decent 4 cyl motor from a wrangle I think is a wrangler 94 motor also 4 cyl so please confirm if it will be a direct fit or requires any modification or if its convenient or not. Thank you. :wrench:

Thank you for your reply Tom, I have a couple of questions more if it isnt to much to ask. Do you know the measurement of the bushing that goes within the shackle? And if I am going to use Poly bushings do I need to remove the sleeve from the OEM rubber bushing? or just burn the old rubber and clean the inside of the sleeve and put the poly bushing in the sleeve? Thank you for shearing your knowledge
-
Thank you for your comments but basically I am in Mexico and I don't cross that ofthen to the US, thast why I would like to know the measurements of the bushings, does anyone have them? so I can order them on my local store. And my rear bumber was a TJ Bumber but I just added the laminated aluminum plate and fabricated the base to put it on my MJ, later I will put a poste on how I have done some upgrades on my MJ you can see it more clear and you can doplicate it.รง Please help with the measurements of the leaf springs. Thanks :hmm:

HI Guys, I need your help, I need to know what are the measurements from the Leafs prings rear and front bushings, and also from the shackle, because I need to replacement but in my town the don't sell any replacement kits and I havent been able to find the replacement in any auto parts shop, what I have found is a repair shop that has polyurethane bushing of several sizes and I am going to buy them there but I need to know the measurements please help. I would also like to introduce my MJ I have been around here for some time but I have never posted pics of my MJ, I have learned some things from your webside, you have helped me in the past with some doubts I had. This is my MJ: Its not that modified since its my daily driver and I am still studying. Since I got it I have changed the shocks, put in front 3/4" coil spacers, changed Sway bar to V8 ZJ SB, changed bushing for SB, Track bar, rear shocks, and thats pretty much it, when I got it, it wasnt in the best shape but I am fixing little by little, I first want to fix suspension thats why I am asking about the Leafs spring bushing. Please help. Thank you. :wrench:

CHINOTJ replied to CHINOTJ's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
same question :agree: what version of the xj has emergency pedal brake? the ones on the JY have hand brake emergency......what version xj and what year? thanks best regards -
Hi all, Since i bought my MJ the emergency brake pedal does not work, I took it off to take a look at it ant it seems that the teeth from the toothed wheel are no good any more, does the emergency brake pedal from another truck like a ranger or a dakota can replace the one on my mj without any modification? Hi all, Again I need your knowledge to figure out where do the 8 bolts (I have read in other posts that there is a total of 8 bolts to secure the bed) go, since I bought my MJ the bed has been loose and I want to fix it can you guys show a picture where I can see where each bolt goes, and also where can I get this bolts, do the XJ have this bolts because there are a lot of XJ on the local junk jard but no MJs so I would like to know if any bolts from the XJ can be use to secure the bed of my MJ Thank you, :huh???:

Thank you all for your knowledge, I did check with the multimiter at high rev and it did say 19v so it must be the volt regulator, I will take it to a professional to fix it. Thank you all for your suport

Can any body direct me to a post where they change the voltage regulator? is it easy to change or do you recommend to take it to a professional? is there any upgrade that can be done to a better alternator that has a easyer to change voltage regulator?
