Sir Sam
So long story short, this is my parts CRD that has been in my backyard for like 3 years now, you could see the top of it over my fence but I kept a car cover on it(all you could see was some grey over the fence line), been that way for years and none of my neighbors had issue with it. Couple of weeks ago an old guy who doesn't even live next to me or on the same street came up to me and harassed me about "all these cars" and "been going on for years." Anyways the end result was that I got a letter from the city saying my "make unknown wrecked blue SUV" needed to be screened from public view followed by "FABRIC CAR COVERS ARE NOT SUFFICIENT" After considering a couple of options(none of which seemed fair to my actual nieghbors and not the d!ck I wanted revenge on, I decided the simplest thing was to remove the roof making the vehicle lower, so it could not been seen over my fence. So I took the doors off(only good for parts), chopped off the one good 1/4 panel, and the sliced off the upper roof and viola! Topless KJ.....I really wanna mad max it around now though! terrawombat
Well, to be fair, your yard is a bit of an eyesore  You desperately need a garage or storage shed to put a bunch of that stuff in. Also, how come the fence slopes down in this picture? Seems like it allows everyone from the street full view to what's in the yard if they have any elevation whatsoever. It is an eyesore........one that you can't see though. I don't even see it from my backyard....its really the side yard between my garage and my house, from where my patio is you can't really see it. It's where I kept the chickens and all my parts(sort of an out of sight out of mind sort of deal). The fence slopes down following the elevation change on my property, there is a fair amount there, perhaps maybe three feet. Which is why the top of the KJ was visible above the fence - it was further up the slope and the fence was at the bottom. I get what you mean about being able to see in, but you can't from the street(actually you couldn't even see the top of the KJ from a car, had to be in an SUV or truck to see it up close. The rest of my crap(including 2 other cars) is thoroughly hidden behind the fence. I've thought about a storage shed, but that whole part of the yard is un-level and would need a pretty good footprint leveled for one. For years I have thought about getting a bunch of rail road ties and leveling out one cars worth of space to the right of my driveway, allow for additional parking and more room to pull a vehicle into the backyard. Ideally I would have gravel leveled parking along my right side of my driveway, and then behind my fence a paved parking space where I could store/work on another vehicle. At the end of the day though my neighbors really have no reason to complain. I may work on cars and have stuff around, but I don't keep crap out where it can be seen, thats what my side yard is for. These are the best I could find to show how my side yard slopes in relation to the rest of the block:
terrawombat
You need to be careful about old, crotchety neighborhood folks, especially those that are retired and never found the time to take up a hobby - they tend to make YOU their hobby. I'm looking to move into a town that is populated mostly by older, retired folks and I have heard some stories about a couple of old-timers who wander the town during the day and have the local PD on speed dial when they feel someone isn't following the town handbook of codes and ordinances. There's a fellow at my office that was renting a house in the town and liked to work on his vehicles in his driveway and was cited four times for leaving car parts strewn about the yard (he didn't have a garage to store anything). My first order of business will be to install the tallest fence the town allows, followed by hacking the roof off all of my vehicles so they don't poke over the fence :D

In any case, roof cut off of vehicle, can't be seen over the fence, all my parts in the backyard, can't be seen over fence. I'm good.
terrawombat
No kidding I know all about that, and it seems like there is always one guy in the neighborhood who is like that. Then you also know that cutting the roof off of the Libby is not the end - not to the crotchety old man. He won't be satisfied until he's had his way. The KJ was just the beginning and probably one of the only things he was able to get you cited for. He'll find something else and he'll call, write letters, and whine about something else. I'm sure you'll eventually receive another letter from the city.

Incommando
You know how yahoo's who tear up land while 'wheeling illegally gives all off roaders a bad name? Living in a densely populated residential neighborhood and having your yard conditions make the average junk yard look like a hospital room does kinda the same for those of use who wish to work on our own vehicles at home.
Comanche County
Suburban revenge ideas are running rampant in my head now. I like the chistmas tree idea. Now that he can't see anything, you could use his tactics against him and claim his “observing you” is contrary to "the right of enjoyment of the property", if there's such a local clause like that. Maybe you can catch him peeking over your fence, a game cam would do it. As I'm sure you know, Roosters are great for annoying the neighbors. Some guys I worked with got in prank battle, after one guy filled up his nemesis' car all the way to the windows with shipping peanuts, the other put up a very distasteful CL personal ad with his phone number and some lewd pictures and after all the phone calls he got he finally admitted defeat. Automan2164
I never actually did it, but a couple years ago I had a neighbor call me in for parking on the wrong side of the street, drivers side to the curb. What they didn't know was that I am good friends with the senior dispatcher... Tee Hee. As soon as the officer pulled away, I texted my buddy. Within 10 minutes I had their address and phone number, and was brewing away. They were the idiots down the street, whom I am sure had been under constant harassment from another neighbor, and were probably trying to take it out on others. My neighbor and I devised a plan to put old milk out on our back porch for a few weeks, let it get good and ripe, freeze it in the jug, and then cut it into blocks. On a nice hot summer night, we were going to creep over there to the complainants house and leave all the milk cubes in their mulch by their front door... Melt in overnight, and be lingering f-o-r-e-v-e-r. They moved out though, or got evicted, so nothing came to fruition. Rob
terrawombat
I hope I never, ever see the day where my mental capacity stoops the level where I am able to convince myself to call the police when someone has parked on the wrong side of the road. I mean, really, who gives a crap?

I mean, really, who gives a crap? Not only that, but I am at the end of an old subdivision that went belly up, so I am the last house... 1/4 mile of nothing past me but hydrants and open lots... I was out moving vehicles around, and was just too lazy to jockey one across the street. Some people's children... Rob
