cody4359
wonder if this is a home made deal or a rare factory option? looks fairly clean
cody4359
now that i think of it i highly doubt its factory due to the location of the license plate and needing a light for it
JeepcoMJ
Notice the xj rear bumper...
camjeep3
looks like an xj setup was put on... So technically it is factory ;)
mvusse
Except afaik there was no factory rear tire carrier for the XJ either. Spare tire mounted inside behind the rear seat on the driver side. The Liberty (called Cherokee overseas) has a factory rear mounted spare, but it doesn't look like that. Real weird looking. They mount as such, and then there is a plate/light relocation kit to basically put it to the right of the tire... Looks like a giant after thought. Badges too. They usually just move them up to right under the rear window. Rob
mvusse
I can imagine why they are rare. They're fugly. Never seen one before in my life.
xjrev10
Thinking that those where a 84-86 option. I have seen 2 in my life. One was on a 86, one was on a 85. Both V6 XJs.

Burls
I've seen an oem tire carrier on both a 93 and 94. I believe there is 2 different models out there. They were dealer installed items.

I have seen another one that mounts down low on the bumper... looks worse then that one.

They were dealer installed items. There's two different ones. Earlier and later. No, I don't know the split, but I think it's in the later 80s. IIRC, my 89 XJ had the later style, that only mounted to the bumper; if somebody wants to go through the build thread for that thing, there is pictures.
