BryGuy
I was wondering if you guys were interested in adding a Favicon to ClubComanche.com For those of you who don't know what a favicon is, wikipedia describes it as follows: A favicon (short for favorites icon), also known as a shortcut icon, Web site icon, URL icon, or bookmark icon, is a file containing one or more[1] small icons, most commonly 16×16 pixels, associated with a particular Web site or Web page. Pretty much every modern website has one, and they're easy to use. I went ahead and created one for Club Comanche and it's really easy to view and implement it. You can visit HERE to see what it looks like, and that page also includes the instructions on how to implement it. P.S: I'II take no offense if you'd rather design your own favicon, or implement another users idea, or abandon the suggestion altogether..... I just figured that this was an easy way to update our forum
Pete M
when you say "easy to use"... I can't even get the main page to stop with the webring crap. :fs1:
BryGuy
when you say "easy to use"... I can't even get the main page to stop with the webring crap. :fs1: I'm not even sure what your talking about. I just tested the link and everything is fine. Favicon.cc isn't part of any webring, and is the #1 rank on google when you search for "favicon". I tested the link in FireFox and Safari. To implement the favicon, all you have to do is: 1. Click "Download Favicon" button located in the top right under the heading "Options"2. Follow the 2 step instructions located at the bottom center of the page under the heading "How to add the favicon to your page ?"3. Done.
Pete M
I've been unable to change the html successfully. not sure if it's me, or the issues with our site. (probably me) But I'll definitely keep in mind once I get someone to help me out with all the problems.

relyt120
To add a favicon to a website you just drop your favicon.ico file into the root file of the web host you use for the site, so wherever you have the html files for the site just drop the file called favicon.ico into it and wallah you have a bookmark icon. I just did this for my job's website.

I can deal with the glitches, but we could really use a tapatalk or forum runner or the like. It has a built in mobile skin for native web browser access across all smart phone and tablet devices. http://dl.dropbox.com/u/9392221/mcfmobile2.png http://dl.dropbox.com/u/9392221/mcfmobile3.png IP.Board also has a native iPhone/iPad application that is very similar to third party applications like Tapatalk and Forum Runner. It also supports Tapatalk and Forum Runner on either iOS or Android. At work we do not use either since it opens up holes in our anti-spam system.(It bypasses our custom registration system.) If you want to mess around in the AdminCP on one you can setup a demo on IPS' site or if you want I can give you admin access to my site. http://www.invisionpower.com/suite/demo.php http://www.nonamestudios.com/
Darren
I'd be willing to make a donation to CC if it gets us closer to Tapatalk support. I'm sure others would too.
Pete M
there have been some concerns about data loss during the transition. thoughts on that? Alexia
there have been some concerns about data loss during the transition. thoughts on that? I always do a test conversion before the real live conversion. Back up the database, import it into a test site, and perform the test conversion. Then admins, mods, and those invited browse around the test site to make sure everything converts as expected. Anything that does not convert correctly gets the conversion code tweaked and then another test done. If for some reason the final live conversion would fail or have unexpected data loss I always take a database back up before the conversion so that the site can be reverted to its previous state within minutes. neohic
there have been some concerns about data loss during the transition... I really don't want to butt in here, and this may just be the creature of habit in me, but I kinda like the way the site runs. Sure, it has some issues sometimes.... and, yeah, it can get finicky when you try to upgrade... or what about when things just don't work? Some may say the same about their truck. I like our trucks too. Yup... there's a metaphor in there.
Pete M
because it's going to be tough or impossible to get a smart phone app to work with our current stuff. :( and fixing our stuff enough to get us to a current version is looking very difficult too. :(
Alexia
because it's going to be tough or impossible to get a smart phone app to work with our current stuff. :( and fixing our stuff enough to get us to a current version is looking very difficult too. :( I definitely do not want to rock the boat here! I have plenty of experience with the people who hate any change syndrome. Added a new button to a site once that affected nothing, was only there for those that wanted the feature, but people complained that there was a new button. That is definitely a decision to take into thought. If you believe it would create mass negative opinion of the site upgrade then it may be best to leave things alone. Alexia
Guess I have to ask, Alexia, do you have any experience with phpbb? Could you help us bridge the gap in our current stuff? Rob My general experience with phpBB is to kill it with napalm. Nothing about it makes sense from a framework level.(At least until more recently.) However, it is a fairly lean running piece of software. Have you considered upgrading to the latest 3.x series? It does have much better support for site skins and there are mobile themes out there. As well, the 3.x series does support Tapatalk.
Automan2164
As I understand it, the big hurdle of converting to the latest version is that we are so far behind... It makes it inherently difficult to upgrade when you have to skip a bunch of versions... Pete could fill in the blanks here. Rob
Pete M
yup, we're behind in updates. waaaaayyyyyy behind. a while back we tried to update using the closest patch and it resulted in an very unstable and completely unusable forum. I've been working with our hosts to find a solution, but so far nothing has showed any promise. that's why I think converting to another software might be our best bet. if the transition goes reasonably smoothly, we'd instantly get all the upgrades and updates that guys have been asking for and I should no longer have to weed through 50+ spammers a day to manually approve the real people hidden amongst them. win-win. :D and I imagine we could always convert back to phpbb if there really were that much outrage over change. :dunno:
