Anyone here run a 29 or 30 inch TSL or SX or SSR? How's that been working out for you? I'm thinking of selling my 29" trXus STS tires (all they do these days is prop up my 86 and that can be done by any ol' tire), then buy a used set of baby swampers for my "spare" set. This set would mainly be for use under Dad's new Diesel Libby when he wants to go offroad (hence the size limit), but I could also bring them to wheeling get-togethers to loan to someone who only owns car tires.

Also, does anyone have a pic of said tires on a rig? Google hasn't been much help. :(

LOANER TIRES...What a GREAT IDEA!!!!

 

I have a set of MT/R's in stock RUBY size that would be great candidate for this in my local club!!!!

I think lots of people like them. They work just like their bigger versions. But smaller. And if that doesn't blow you out of the water, I don't know what will.

 

 

 

Remember, anything from Interco won't be round. Even if it is smaller.

I am glad that you have brought up this question because I to have been curious about it. I just haven't seen the 29 or 30 in tires in a 10.5 width and I won't run and skinnier then that if I don't have to.

Since I'm buying used, I'd probably take the first thing that comes by in decent condition. All I really want is for it to be super aggressive. :brows:

Potential sizes are as follows:

29x10.5 SSR

29x10.5 SX

30x11.5 SX

29x8.5 TSL bias

215-85-15 TSL radial (29x8.5)

30x10.5 TSL radial

 

I'm not sure I could convince my dad to do what's necessary to the KJ to fit 31s. At least not until the warrantee is up. :D

KJ rims have some ridiculous backspacing don't they?

a stock steely XJ/MJ rim would probably be a good fit to keep those tires out of the suspension.

If you look at interco's website it lists the SSRs as AT tires, not mud tires. The regular TSLs or SXs work the best from what I've seen.

SSRs as an AT? :hmm: That's odd, but maybe it's relative to the other Swamper offerings like Boggers and Iroks. :D

 

KJs should have backspacing similar to MJs (~5.25"), but we've only owned the Jeep for a week now so I'm still learning. My likely plan will be to get some TJ 15x8s. That should keep the tires tucked in nicely.

Yes...I have had three different Swampers and the SSR's were the best all around of the bunch. They are tough off road like all Swampers and they had a good on road ride. They did flat spot when sitting for a while, but it drives out quickly. We did extremely good with mileage as well...getting about 32K out of them.

well, I can tell you that my narrow SS bias ply TSL's are about the worst tire ever on the street and in the snow, but damn, they're freaking amazing off road.

Road manners aren't a concern for me with these. They'll be swapped on at the destination. I've been reading up on fitting larger tires on a KJ and it seems to be a bit harder than MJs, even though the Libby comes with bigger tires from the factory. :hmm:
