Wheeling simulation, bringing it back.

So... As I sit here bored at 3:50 AM... I recently re-discovered an old friend on the internet... Rigs of Rods. For those not familiar, it's an open source vehicle dynamics simulator. People make vehicles, landscapes, tracks, rock crawling comp courses... And it's all free. They have S10's, a lifted Cherokee, crawlers, Cummins Rams, and sweet semi's. They have options like selectable lockers, tires, and basically whatever you want. It has an available multiplayer option, so you can all meet up on one terrain and have a wheeling trip via the web. I downloaded the full version, with the capability to host a multiplayer... Once I get used to the game again, maybe we can do some e-wheelin'. Old MJ club thread:

The hilux is pretty cool, but I have been having lots of fun with the bobbed and lifted Deuce and a half. :brows:

Get it fired up, get reacquainted, and maybe we can all hit up a trail.

Even though I own three Jeeps (and one GMC camper/tow rig), my favorites in the promo video are the bobbed Deuce, the Unimog (actually wheeled with one a month ago, GAWD those things are big!) and the 8wd whatever (Tatra? HOWO? Cab is all wrong for a HEMTT).

But since the promo mentions realistic damage, how come the side mirror survived the Hilux flopping on it's side in the above video?

Maybe you need a computer that doesn't suck even more?

Gaming, 3d modelling and real time simulations beat harder on the hardware and need more processing power than anything else.

I have a 64 bit quad core i5 @ 2.3 Ghz, 6 GB of RAM, 1.5 GB of video memory. Don't think that's the issue.

It's really choppy, steering response is insanely slow, and when I throw it in neutral and redline the motor for a few minutes, it doesn't throw a rod.

Am I missing a setting somewhere, or is that just the way the game is?

it shouldnt be doing that. mine is super smooth.

also, there are a lot of sweet new crawlers to use.

Since we run essentially the same system Correy, I know the chop you are talking about. I have it on:

Texture filtering: Bi-linear

Sky: Sandstorm

Shadows: Texture or Stencil

Water: Basic

Vegetation: 50%

It seemed to calm down a ton, and now the landscape isn't flashing.

Found a way to take care of the sound/missing vehicles/missing terrains... Under Settings at the main mode, go to the advanced tab and hit the clear cache button. It forces the simulator to reload all the packs and start fresh. Haven't had a problem since doing this before I start. It's given me time to play with new vehicles. Since I keep rolling over or flipping off the rock, I figured I would get a bit acquainted with the rotator tow truck, and was slinging around the Cummins truggy in the parking lot:
