DIGMYGP Posted October 24, 2011 Posted October 24, 2011 I just got this 88 MJ Pioneer Olympic Edition on a trade for a Boat. The trailer came with the deal too! The BAD The Dash does not work gauges or lights( I assume I will find something to fix in a search on this forum) The throttle will not return to Idle( I think the spring is worn out) The Drivers floor pan is rusted through( $50 fix) The rear drive shaft flange ear is twisted off( I bet because of the boggers and skinny pedal) There are all kinds of wires and hoses hanging off the Jeep(Previous owner neglect) The GOOD I have seen this thing off road from the owner before the last owner and I know it will walk the DOG. So I am going to get it back to speed so I can have a fun MJ on the trails. Here are some pics
codymanche Posted October 24, 2011 Posted October 24, 2011 With hard hard work and time bet thisnwould be one badass machine
Boots Posted October 24, 2011 Posted October 24, 2011 The back part of the cage is from a wrangler or isn't it.
codymanche Posted October 24, 2011 Posted October 24, 2011 Looks like it still don't know why u would weld it to the cab waste of time and money unless u cage the whole thing
Automan2164 Posted October 24, 2011 Posted October 24, 2011 Pop goes the D35. Congrats on the buy. Rob :D
DIGMYGP Posted October 25, 2011 Author Posted October 25, 2011 Yes cage is going by by! I will be fabing something up in bendtech pro so I have some knogen protection. D 35 is going to get tossed as soon as I can get a good 8.8 and an aussie locker for it.
jpnjim Posted October 25, 2011 Posted October 25, 2011 Wrangler bars make good Ghetto cages, I cut the down tubes off two, and connected the dots for a ghettofab special on my last MJ: Probably would have folded like a Taco, but it made good monkeybars to mount stuff to. Nice grab by the way. I love MJ's on Boggers, even if they have D35's ready to snap like toothpicks.
codymanche Posted October 25, 2011 Posted October 25, 2011 What size tires and rims are those? I'm liking the black rims looks like it's got a decent offset on them

DIGMYGP Posted October 25, 2011 Author Posted October 25, 2011 Looks like it still don't know why u would weld it to the cab waste of time and money unless u cage the whole thing I don't know why the PO did this. since its welded I will have to cut and grind . I like the look but its bad execution. And serves no purpose . I have an idea to get a bench seat and seat belts for some brave soul to have some truckbed fun . I will post a snapshot of what I come up with in bendtech pro . Is anyone here using benddtech pro?
TylerJY Posted October 25, 2011 Posted October 25, 2011 as much as I hate to see nice Manche's get turned into insane, beat up, offroading machines, I LOVE this Jeep :P
87Warrior Posted October 25, 2011 Posted October 25, 2011 That is one of the first blue Olympic edition trucks I have seen. Looks like you have a good base to build from. I can't believe the ears twisted off the DS before snapping the 35!
DIGMYGP Posted October 25, 2011 Author Posted October 25, 2011 as much as I hate to see nice Manche's get turned into insane, beat up, offroading machines, I LOVE this Jeep :P Well it was already cut up and beat up so I guess its going to get it cleaned up he best I can with out spending a fortune (LOL)
DIGMYGP Posted October 25, 2011 Author Posted October 25, 2011 Ok, so I got the Jeep running under its own power and the throttle is returning( Cheap spring on the return part of hinge) Here is the floor pan.. Typical from what I can gather And here is the sag to the left ...Springs are shot! I got my 6'4" 260lb ars in the MJ and thought it was going to flip over. I called the PO(2 Owners ago) to see what kind of lift he did on the MJ and he said it came like that but seems to think its a 4" Lift in front and just spring over in the rear with stock leaf springs. I will have to search out some new Coils and Leafs. Any company that you guys prefer to deal with / stay away from??? Axle shaft is coming out today and replacing it with trail spare from my YJ(Non Vacuum Shaft. BTW this ain't my first rodeo with Jeeps)
codymanche Posted October 25, 2011 Posted October 25, 2011 That was a narlu sag as far as companie I would go with rusty or motion and t and t
DIGMYGP Posted October 25, 2011 Author Posted October 25, 2011 Looks like Rustys has replacement coil springs and adjustable spacers($200) . I had a friend make some adjustable coil spacers for his XJ and he is sending me a parts list to make some myself on the cheap. I will update on this.
jpnjim Posted October 25, 2011 Posted October 25, 2011 I like the rear bumper do you have a build thread ? What does the front look like ? Thanks..... No build thread so here you go: (Sorry for all the pics.... but you asked ;) ) Ft & rear bumpers were 4" C channel, the back was simple, Cut the 4" C channel to fit chopped the factory bumper brackets to fit inside the channel plate the bottom of the stock bumper mounts, to take inverted tow hooks, and give me more to weld to burn it together (I also a pieced a small chunk of steel on each side above the bumper mounts to bridge the gap to the top of the C channel). then put some D rings on the bumper face, inline with the hooks. (tow strap goes through D ring, and grabs the inverted hook, never had had a strap pop off with this arrangement) Later on I added some receiver tube to the bottom, and extended that all the way to bolt to the factory 'frame' X-member. Then I chopped the sides/mounts off to use for this: Not completed yet: 4" C channel ft bumper on old MJ (sides taper back more than it looks in this pic):

DIGMYGP Posted October 28, 2011 Author Posted October 28, 2011 Sounds good! I will have to check them out . I figure I will get an 8.8 and stuff an Aussie Locker in it while I am messing with suspension. I will also Truss the 30.
