HOrnbrod
The geese on the lake out back have hatched their young, and their parents are now showing them where to get the good grass vegetables in my back yard. Gus the Cocker Spaniel doesn't like this at all and spends the entire day chasing the bastids from his territory. It's been in the upper 90s here for a few days he's tuckered out big time. I've given up trying to grow grass out there. Fun to watch the endless war though. Got to get some pics of him charging the flock. Entertaining as hell. :D Image Not Found
mj Mike
that's Awesome! ''Go get em Gus'' Don't let those bastids take over your territory.

maddzz1
Don, Is this the dog that smokes? If so, he may be able to catch a few if he quits.
jeepdoggydogB
Don, LOL! In Gus' mind those Geese are the darn biggest North America Woodcocks he ever saw! Reminds me of the Sylvester the cat episode when he tried to "mouse" a kangaroo. :clapping:
HOrnbrod
Don, Is this the dog that smokes? If so, he may be able to catch a few if he quits. Perhaps Jim. I've hidden all the lighters and matches I can find around the house, but still catch him smoking out behind the shed once in awhile. Somehow he's making fire ............ :dunno: Don, LOL! In Gus' mind those Geese are the darn biggest North America Woodcocks he ever saw! Reminds me of the Sylvester the cat episode when he tried to "mouse" a kangaroo. :clapping: It's hilarious when he goes charging down the hill and the geese spread their wings and puff all up three times his size. He just continues his charge like the old Bear linebacker Dick Butkus did right into the biggest one and the bird goes rolling down the hill. He tried it once with a goose sitting on the pier and the bird lifted off just before impact and poor Gus went off the end of the pier headfirst into the water. He doesn't like the water much. He's like a freaking cartoon.
jeepdoggydogB
Don, you have got to get video of that, it would win some sort of award for sure.
HOrnbrod
Yeah Joe, I've got to get a video camera one of these days. He's always cornering some land bound creature out there; alligator snapping turtles, possums, beavers, etc. The other day he was going bananas and he had a water moccasin trapped in the grass. Mr. 9mm took care of the moccasin right quick. Cockers are not known for their brains.
jeepdoggydogB
Correction Don, Cockers are ingenious at stealing or otherwise absconding food sources, but they have no common sense like for example a German Shepherd that I have witnessed avoiding snakes, opening doors, and darn near steering a truck. All that said I do fancy my cocker as she provides hours of amusement but nothing like Gus!
Akula69
The best thing is - when he got tired he went to lie down next to what he could sense (smell) was his owners (the shoes). That is one dedicated friend you have there Don....
HOrnbrod
Oh yeah Jake, he's my buddy. He obviously has a mind of his own, is absolutely fearless (except for the lawnmower  ), and hardheaded. But he's the only other male in the house, so we watch each other's back. :chillin:
Dirteatr717
Don I agree he could probably catch the geese if he laid off the cancer sticks! My dog Cody used to be the same way with squirrels and butterflies! .... He's a mix between a great Dane and a rodesian ridgeback and their bred to hunt lions! But when he was a few years younger he almost made it 15 feet up a tree to get the little bouncy grey fur balls! I hate saying it but he's used up his 9 lives with the disease he has( cushings ) hes been my best pal since I was 8, he's the best furry friend anyone can ask for
HOrnbrod
Hear ya mate. Damn shame our respective specie's life spans are so different; there's nothing tougher than losing a dog you basically grew up with, or grew older with. All you can do is take care of them the best you can, make sure they have the longest heathiest life they can, and love and enjoy while they are with you till the end.
Sir Sam
No kidding man, it sucks knowing your gonna outlive your furry buddies.
streetjeep2.5
Had an english springer spaniel that would continuously chase the homing pigeons our neighbor owned. They would fly around over an open farm field behind our houses and for half an hour to hour that dog was on the ground running where ever those birds in the air went, and then come back when they landed in their pens with tongue dragging the ground! Speaking of a Cocker, we had one when I was a kid that charged a racoon. NOT a good idea! While in florida our G shepherd jumped in a small canal after a bird, and an unseen before small gator dropped into the water. My wife wanted me to go in and get our dog! Thankfully the dog responded to our call and got out first!
terrawombat
My Siberian will chase just about anything, and if he catches it, consider it dead. So far on his kill list are: 1 Porcupine 1 Cat 2 Mallard ducks 8 Chickens It takes a while, but eventually he'll get tired.
