Blue88Comanche
A friend of mine took my dana 44 carrier to the machine shop where he works and was able to remove the freaking roll pin. after messing with it for a while he finally pulled out a BFH and heat the cross shaft out without harming the carrier. so tonight i will be getting my locker installed into the carrier and this weekend i hopefully will get the carriers swapped! . :MJ 1: .

Blue88Comanche
Decided to touch up the front of my Comanche Saturday. I repainted the headlight trim and the metal headlight retainer strap thing, with Plasti Dip (I am starting to really love that stuff) here are a few pics! I also found my A/C leak, it was the Pressure switch. I also tested the system to make sure it did not have any other issues and it seems to be running fine otherwise. one up coming weekend i am going to replace the drier and pressure switch, then find someone to put a vacuum on it. Blue88Comanche
Saturday I replaced the Drier, Pressure Switch, and refilled the system, thus far no noticeable leaks and the ac is working well.
Blue88Comanche
been a while sense the last update, not long after i get the A/C working again in may, I think the gears in the rear diff finally bit the dust.. I know they where on the way out when i put in the D44 but i was hoping they would have lasted a bit longer. A local mechanic quoted me about $500 for new gears in the rear diff. Just need to save up the money now... getting my first tow home (May 24, 2013) my new dash bezel i installed while waiting the 3 hours for the tow truck I also need to fix the coolant from boiling over. it might be time to replace the radiator and the hoses.. I am not sure when the last time they where replaced (if ever). The A/C system seems to be holding its charge finally, I am going to eventually have a vacuum drawn on it, and new R-134a put in.. when i can afford it. Blue88Comanche
Well, if I ever get around to removing the rear ring gear in the d44 then technically she will be road worthy as a temp fwd. but I just need to save up the last couple hundred dollars for the new gears and installation. Blue88Comanche
Today I stayed home from work, (I was sick over the weekend and was told I take the day off to help recover). After laying around watching tv and waiting 10 min for GTA5 to connect, I decided I needed to get out of the house. So at 1 pm I started working on my Jeep. I while draining the oil I noticed it looked glittery. One the cover was off I removed the carrier and that's when I found the damage. The cross shaft roll pin was gone causing the cross shaft to slide back and forth but because of the ring gear was unable to come completely out. The pinion hear had several large chips on the tips if several teeth and in the midsection of the gear, the ring gear also had several small chips in the middle of the teeth. I have decided the carrier it self needs to be replaced as well. I haven't decided if I want to get one from the p&p or just buy a new one when I get the new gears in. Thankfully I had an extra LSD carrier at home and was able to stick that back in with out the ring gear. At least now I can drive it to the shop and around town some. My next task is figuring out why the coolant is boiling over. I am thinking about replacing all the hoses and the radiator some time after the new gears go in. It sucks being on a tight budget. ComancheKid45
Sucks about the carrier. Maybe instead of replacing the carrier itself, now might be a good time to upgrade to a selectable locker or gear driven LS assembly ;)
Blue88Comanche
Pictures Added to last post :wrench: Sucks about the carrier. Maybe instead of replacing the carrier itself, now might be a good time to upgrade to a selectable locker or gear driven LS assembly ;) I would love to have a selectable locker i just don't have the money for it. and i just bought an aussie locker... Before i discovered the carrier should be replaced i was looking at a $500 gear and bearing job ($250 for labor + the cost of parts)
Blue88Comanche
Today I think I may have fixed the coolant tank boiling over issue.. I swapped my extra pressure tank and installed a new thermostat for good measure. So far so good!

Blue88Comanche
talked to the mechanic today, he has been busy lately, should have my jeep back next week.. That works for me as my card expired last month anyway and i am still waiting on it to arrive...
Blue88Comanche
Got my Comanche back last night. He only regeared the rear axle so far. He said to bring it back after Christmas and he will do the front then. Swapped speedometer gears, it appears I may need to buy another one... I still need to try my 36 tooth gear. Before I took the MJ to get the gears swapped I replaced the pressure bottle and thermostat. Well now the bottle is fine and its now leaking somewhere around the thermostat housing.... I hope the housing is not bent or cracked. Hopefully today I can also replace the parking break cables.
HOrnbrod
With your setup (4.10s & 31s like mine), a 36T speedo gear will be close, but 37T will be the most accurate.
Blue88Comanche
Ya the 36 is close enough for now, I think in February I will get a 37. -- Fixed the coolant leak, a small hole developed on the upper radiator hose under the hose clamp by the thermostat housing. It's no longer leaking anywhere I can find! :)
Blue88Comanche
Swapped out the parking break cables, but ran out of daylight before I could get them and or the drum brakes adjusted properly. Tomorrow after work hopefully I can get all that taken care of. But as something is fix why must something else stop working! I also get to figure out my interior light problem as well... Blue88Comanche
My new Novak Transfer case Cable Shifter arrived yesterday. I did not get any pictures of it yet. If i can get off work tomorrow at 2 i should be able to install this kit then. Being able to shift the TC while still in the cab, will be a great improvement lol.
