kro10000
Erm well not sure if this helps, but you started seeing them in the mid-late '70s
HOrnbrod
They were mandated for all new US domestic vehicles in 1976, and Jeeps were no exception so I'd say then. But some of export countries didn't mandate cats until the early 90s, so a bolt-in resonator was available form the factory. :smart:
glundblad
I had a 1975 Chevy Monza with a cat. Anyone remember the Monza? It was thrill in snow. :ack:

While taking a forced 4 month break from college in 92 I got a job rust proofing cars and doing miscelaneous mechanical work for the owner, including work on the owner's Monza. Worst POS Chevy I've ever seen.

Seems like it was a couple years later for trucks.
HOrnbrod
I'd take a Monza any day over a Chevette. That was the worst POS Chevy ever made. What did it have, about a one liter engine putting out 40HP or so? :ack: Â Weren't light trucks subjected to a different year?? Seems like it was a couple years later for trucks. Could be. I thought 76 was the mandatory year for all US domestic vehicles. Maybe some cars had cats earlier than 76? :dunno:
mvusse
Some 3/4 ton and 1 ton pickup trucks were exempt through at least 78.
