Why do you want bigger wheels? Planning on some chrome 22" spinners? Blingedy blang, yo. ;) I believe tires is what you are looking for.

 

Here's what I run on my 2wd, and it gives the appearance of a stock 4wd: a 1" rocky road comanche budget lift. The kit has 1" coil spacers and 1.5" cherokee shackles for the rear leaf springs. I also only run 235/75 15s, so not to tax the D35 too much. The kit runs around 100 bucks and takes an hour or two with a buddy, even if you don't know what you're doing. Be sure to pick up new spring insulators to go between the spring and the lift spacer, as the old factory one is most likely spongecake by now.

After you lift, be sure to get a professional alignment, including a caster adjustment. Otherwise youll wear out tires, have pulling issues, non centered steering wheel, and possible death wobble problems, although the DW is less likely with a 2wd due to less unsprung weight. You may need to get a new adjustable track bar as well to keep the front end centered.

I had 30" tires on stock rims under my 2wd 88 with no lift. I wouldn't go higher than 2" pucks and the 2" chevy drop shackles (it's just coincidence that they also have a 2 in their name, since they were designed to, as you can guess, drop a chevy fullsize truck 2" and that same length shackle will raise and MJ 2" due to our different style of suspension).

i got 2.5" spacers and an add a leaf from my local spring shop....super cheap....my trucks sit like mighty lions

 

They sure do. So all you have is 2.5" of lift and 31's?

its true , they do sit like lions. and i agree with the added leaf. i just did the chevy shackle and while they are a great product, since i haul stuff often, i am now thinking i would have been better off with the extra leaf instead. --- still most likely will add one because i like the "raked" look of nose slightly down. - but the ride is beautiful as-is.

My cheap lift was not so cheap.

I got under my 20 year old truck and needed lots of other stuff after the 40 bucks or so for shackles and pucks.

Shocks, axle seals, leaf spring bolts/bushings, drag link, sway bar ends, steering stabilizer.

^LoL, I hate when you decide to do 1 thing and wind up fixing a bunch of other crap in the process!

 

I too am looking at doing this to my 2wd manche. I think I am going to get the Chevy drop shackles from ebay but I am not sure about the pucks. I did a search a week or 2 ago and found some RE pucks for around $35 but I don't remember what site that was from. The pucks on ebay usually go for $39. I just want to get her a little higher in the air without having to get into brake lines and shocks and all that.

for Dodgefan, adding new coils might give more lift than he's looking for (having a 2wd). the pucks and shackles will lift the truck precisely 2" higher than it currently is. adding 2" lift coils will lift the front up 3" above what it is now (2wds are shorter than 4wds).

 

and yes, going 2" can help keep costs at bay. just need pucks and shackles. But we of course can't guarantee you won't find issues along the way. :(

2WD's have different front coils? What about rear leafs? So would 4wd XJ/MJ coils give me another inch? Harsher ride?

2wd MJs sit 1 inch lower than 4wd. that means slightly different coils and leafs. The ride should be about the same.

i would just get longer coils instead of the spacers.

i have stock shocks on my 88 with the spacers...

i have 3" longer shocks on my 92... both ride nice

With 2.5" spacers did you do new shocks? I want to do 2.5" and keep stock shocks since i don't wheel.
