Geonovast
You're going to have to be waaay more specific.
shawn
can you get the axles too ? ( bigger, stronger u-joints).
91coMANche
It will work if you get the carrier and everything inside with it but I would just swap the entire axle instead of just the innards. The later axles are better in more ways than 1.
Pete M
ever set up gears?
Geonovast
Just to clarify... Setting up gears is difficult, setting up used gears(from what I've heard) is even harder. The newer gears should go on the older carrier This is a 97 XJ D30, correct? A ZJ or TJ D30 is low pinion and the gears will not go in an 89 housing. juan
I don't think so....97+ d30 are low pinion - 95 and down years are high pinion.
Geonovast
I don't think so....97+ d30 are low pinion - 95 and down years are high pinion. XJ was high pinion until 84-99. Only the 2000 and 2001 XJs are low pinion. All ZJs and TJs are low pinion, however.
mnkyboy
His 89 d30 should be 3.55 so the carrier shouldn't accept the 4.10 gears

I wasn't thinking about that. :hmm: For some reason I was thinking the difference because of the C-clip for the inner shaft.

91coMANche
Oh I totally forgot about the high-pinion v. low-pinion difference. I was expecting the original poster to know how to setup gears...am I correct in my expectation?
Pete M
the misconception about "bolting in" gears is so prevalent that I never take it for granted and always feel compelled to ask and make sure.
