Craft86MJ
how easy would it be to put up to a 3.4L in a 1986 MJ?
freakjeep93
uhm that i don't know . again i think that the 3.4 uses the same bellhousing as the 2.5 so if you got the dakota 2.5 AX15 it might work. but id consult the experts first

Geonovast
AX-15 was used in mid 89 - 92 MJ, mid 89-95 YJ, 97-99 TJ, and mid 89-99 XJ.
Automan2164
3.4 swap will bolt directly in place of the 2.8, and will use or can use, all of its accessories. AX15 is the best, but will not bolt up to the 2.5L/2.8L engines. You can, however, find an older Dodge dakota that used the AX15 behind the 4 cylinder, and that has the correct bellhousing for the 2.5L/ GM 2.8L (60 degree V6 family). Rob L. Eagle
AX 15 is best I beg to differ - NV 3550 is best. However, it won't be found in any MJs as donors, VERY few Cherokees had it (2000 and 201 only), so it would have to come from a 2000 or newer Wrangler. wannabeMJ
if it comes from a 4x4 truck it will fit but if from a 2x4 no the output shaft is not the same unless its going in a 2wd
Pete M
nothing wrong with the ol' AX-5 that your truck would have come with. plenty of them out there.

carnuck
How about T18A with NP208? (I have one for sale with a running AMC 360 for $500 obo in Seattle) I'm taking it out of my '82 Honcho because I don't plan to haul any loads with it so it's getting a 290 with AX-15 (already have them) since it'll be a freeway cruiser. It'll have an NP208 for now (the adapter is @$100 from Partsmike.com ) Later it will get an NV241 OR with 4:1 low range :brows:
