The perfect state fair food

Just got back from a trip to Minnesota which included a full day at the Minnesota State Fair and I reconnected with my favorite Minnesota fare, Deep Fried Battered Cheese Curds.

A taste of home if there ever was one. The best $7 I've spent in a long time. I just wish I could get these here in Nevada.

For cheese curds, you can't beat the Wisconsin state fair... The GF and I go every year, and enjoy every minute of it. This year we got:

Deep Fried Veggies with ranch (Broccoli, Cauliflower, zucchini, mushrooms)

Deep Fried Cheese curds

Sweet Corn dipped in butter, sprinkled in salt

Jalapeno Cheese and bacon Deep fried nuggets with Jalapeno ranch

Millennium fries with cheese (huge basket of deep fried thin sliced potatoes, and nacho cheese)

Walking banana split on a stick

Dippin dots ice cream

I don't go to the fair to get my daily dose of vegetables. But at least they look like there were beer battered.

Deep Fried Cheese curds

+1

Sweet Corn dipped in butter, sprinkled in salt

Again -1 to vegetables.

Jalapeno Cheese and bacon Deep fried nuggets with Jalapeno ranch

Millennium fries with cheese (huge basket of deep fried thin sliced potatoes, and nacho cheese)

Those sound good! jamminz.gif

Walking banana split on a stick

If its walking how do you eat it?

Dippin dots ice cream

You can get that at Wal-Mart.

I counter with Pork Chop on a Stick! (I didn't get a pic of mine, it was too delicious)

Got a little place called "Dairy Mart" here in Wellsville Missouri that serves deep fried Mac and Cheese! Good stuff!

deep fried ice cream is pretty good... one of my friends tells me they have deep fried coca cola (yeah, they deep fry coke concentrate. WTF?!) in Hong Kong and call it an American traditional food.

I enjoy making deep fried ice cream at home often. It's very easy to make and just awesome.

I think my favorite state fair food would be corn dogs. I know, it sounds boring, but nowhere can you get a good corndog any better than at the fair. I was told the Oregon state fair is on right now, too.

Probably anything is "traditional" somewhere. I grew up knowing about New England clam chowder and Manhattan clam chowder. The first time I was served Rhode Island clam chowder in a restaurant I thought I'd been cheated. Now I prefer it over the other two.

Didja know in Rhode Island they eat French fries with vinegar, not ketchup? Yyyuucchh!

True.

I actually like fries with vinegar occasionally. But then again I like em with honey (yeah, I know, weird) or ketchup as well. As long as you keep the mustard away from me, no one gets hurt...
