Philistine Posted August 30, 2010 Posted August 30, 2010 Just got back from a trip to Minnesota which included a full day at the Minnesota State Fair and I reconnected with my favorite Minnesota fare, Deep Fried Battered Cheese Curds. A taste of home if there ever was one. The best $7 I've spent in a long time. I just wish I could get these here in Nevada.
Automan2164 Posted August 30, 2010 Posted August 30, 2010 For cheese curds, you can't beat the Wisconsin state fair... The GF and I go every year, and enjoy every minute of it. This year we got: Deep Fried Veggies with ranch (Broccoli, Cauliflower, zucchini, mushrooms) Deep Fried Cheese curds Sweet Corn dipped in butter, sprinkled in salt Jalapeno Cheese and bacon Deep fried nuggets with Jalapeno ranch Millennium fries with cheese (huge basket of deep fried thin sliced potatoes, and nacho cheese) Walking banana split on a stick Dippin dots ice cream Some pics: Veggies: Millennium Fries: Midway: I love the fair food. Its a great day of walking, drinking, and hanging out. Rob L.

This year we got: Deep Fried Veggies with ranch (Broccoli, Cauliflower, zucchini, mushrooms) I don't go to the fair to get my daily dose of vegetables. But at least they look like there were beer battered. Deep Fried Cheese curds +1 Sweet Corn dipped in butter, sprinkled in salt Again -1 to vegetables. Jalapeno Cheese and bacon Deep fried nuggets with Jalapeno ranchMillennium fries with cheese (huge basket of deep fried thin sliced potatoes, and nacho cheese) Those sound good! Walking banana split on a stick If its walking how do you eat it? Dippin dots ice cream You can get that at Wal-Mart. I counter with Pork Chop on a Stick! (I didn't get a pic of mine, it was too delicious)
dfreeman616 Posted August 30, 2010 Posted August 30, 2010 how 'bout the boone country (IL) fair with a deep fried twinkee?

Got a little place called "Dairy Mart" here in Wellsville Missouri that serves deep fried Mac and Cheese! Good stuff!
kastein Posted August 30, 2010 Posted August 30, 2010 bread it with corn bread instead and I'm fairly certain it will become the best food on the planet!
Comanche County Posted August 30, 2010 Posted August 30, 2010 I knew someone would whip out a deep fried twinky.....ever had a deep fried oreo? mmmmm.
kastein Posted August 30, 2010 Posted August 30, 2010 deep fried ice cream is pretty good... one of my friends tells me they have deep fried coca cola (yeah, they deep fry coke concentrate. WTF?!) in Hong Kong and call it an American traditional food.

I think my favorite state fair food would be corn dogs. I know, it sounds boring, but nowhere can you get a good corndog any better than at the fair. I was told the Oregon state fair is on right now, too.

Rob L. not since i've really known you. my wife is from rockford so we visit her family every now and then. haven't been that way in awhile though. we'll be heading up to milwaukee and madison in december though.

The first time I was served Rhode Island clam chowder in a restaurant I thought I'd been cheated. Now I prefer it over the other two. Didja know in Rhode Island they eat French fries with vinegar, not ketchup? Yyyuucchh!

But then again I like em with honey (yeah, I know, weird) or ketchup as well. As long as you keep the mustard away from me, no one gets hurt...
Incommando Posted September 1, 2010 Posted September 1, 2010 I think the vinegar thing is English? I never knew there was a 3rd chowder.... But....fair food.... funnel cakes.... I thought of a chain of shops that served nothing but fair food...call them Midways...
