89eliminator Posted October 31, 2006 Posted October 31, 2006 I have a 33 inch spare tire sitting around and i was thinking about mounting it in the bed. Has anyone done this, if so could you show me some ideas.
Pete M Posted October 31, 2006 Posted October 31, 2006 Not the easiest to do (and way-less-than-applicable to most trucks out there), but using the tire mount as a tie in to increase the strength of the rollbar and the rear bumper is one of my favorite mods I've done to my 88. :D Wait a minute, didn't we cover this a few weeks ago? :hmm: Curse this feeble brain of mine! :teehee: Run a quick search and you might find what you're looking for.
ORCA Posted October 31, 2006 Posted October 31, 2006 I've always loved this contraption (atleast it's some inspiration): http://www.tiregate.com/ Where's the MJ model?!

Hell i'd pay you money to make me one too
feerocknok Posted October 31, 2006 Posted October 31, 2006 That's the Prerunner gate. CW made the vertical one they have on their site, and I started a prerunner one, but don't know if I'll finish it, cause I like my tailgate too.
jeepthing07 Posted November 1, 2006 Posted November 1, 2006 I Like this one made by fabtech. I want to build 2 of them for my MJ and YJ.

rejeep Posted November 1, 2006 Posted November 1, 2006 I Like this one made by fabtech. I want to build 2 of them for my MJ and YJ. Hey, thats funny I want two of these for my same Jeeps... I just can't justify shelling out that much for a silly in bed carrier when a swing away is near the same amount.

Hell i'd pay you money to make me one too I guess I don't think about people not having access to people that fabricate things. I started my apprenticeship in the metal trades 26 years ago this week. (We need an old smiley guy with a gray beard!) I have a bender, welder, torch, and a garage full of tools. I can make almost anything. I usually have a buddy build what I want. He has a lot more time and works cheap. I'm more of a  these days.

Tazmatic Posted November 1, 2006 Posted November 1, 2006 Love the rear bumper. Man that's clean! :chillin:
89eliminator Posted November 1, 2006 Author Posted November 1, 2006 I was leaning toward the fabtech one. i think that it would look the coolest because you don't see many trucks with a spare tire mounted in the bed like that. I think that it is around $100 but i willo probably make one.

feerocknok Posted November 2, 2006 Posted November 2, 2006 So you know, if you don't attach whatever mount you get/make to the frame, the tire can become a projectile in the wrong situation. I had my GMC's 33" spare on a steel rim bolted down and it flew more than 20 feet when I rolled my truck. Ripped right out of the bed.
Pete M Posted November 2, 2006 Posted November 2, 2006 That is so very very true. Gives me one more reason to love mine. :D That tire aint goin' ANYWHERE!
89eliminator Posted November 2, 2006 Author Posted November 2, 2006 i live in Wisconsin. All the trucks around here have 44s and big engines. there isn't to many dunes around these parts.
