kyleag89
I have a small crack in the top of my coolant bottle, will this cause me any problems?
Automan2164
Yes... You need the system to retain pressure to raise the boiling temperature of the coolant. A crack in the bottle will not allow it to get to operating PSI, and cause a boil over. Rob L.
kyleag89
Ok my cooling issues all make sense now! I have had the crack in it since the thermostat stuck and it overheated, blowing a small hole in the bottle. So I replaced the stat and burped the system and it drove fine for a week then it overheated again and coolant was spraying out of the overflow bottle. I burped it again and put some epoxy on it for now until I can make it to the JY.
Automan2164
There are a few companies making them out of aluminum, and are really good. Also, check with napa, I think one of the parts stores had them new, dealer too. Because a JY bottle will have the same problem yours has. Its old, dry, and brittle. mvusse
I bought a new bottle off Ebay for about $25 I think, and it's been good for over a year now.
Automan2164
Do I have to the burp the system after I change the bottle? You shouldn't have to, as it is the highest point in the system. Rob L.

Eagle
So I replaced the stat and burped the system and it drove fine for a week then it overheated again and coolant was spraying out of the overflow bottle. Correction. That hunk of plastic is NOT an overflow bottle. It is a surge tank and it is an integral part of the pressurized cooling system. Harper
Where can I find a NEW bottle? Autozone or advance auto doesn't have them. Rock Auto has 'em, too. http://www.rockauto.com/ But I'm tired of replacing it every year. Next time I'm going with the aluminum surge tank.
