Huntingman2706217
ive got two comanches that i just recently got... both have solid back windows and both have bench seats... was at he pick and pull today... couple of them and found 2 comanches... 1 with a sliding back window which id rather have and both had bucket seats... was just wondering which is more common... i think i want to keep my bench seat so i can ride a extra person but i like the looks of the buckets... and slidin rear glass is always just better... think I'm going to grab it and a AX-15 from a 96 XJ with only 125k on it for $100... found one out of like 40 XJ's in the two yards... sinkrun
Buckets are very hard to find at least around here. I drove 4 hours for my buckets $80.00 plus gas and my bucket brackets were $110.00 from ebay. I say grab them if there cheap along with the rear slider.
kyleag89
Grab the MJ bucket brackets... Very hard to find and someone on hear would love to have them.
johnj92131
See if the buckets fold forward. If they do, then take them. At the very least, take the seat brackets off of all 4 seats. They are hard to find. Took me a good year to find my set in the local yards. There are 3 trucks in the local yards right now none with buckets. Pete M
I never seem to have any trouble finding MJ bucket seats. :dunno:
Eagle
The sliding rear window was a LOT more common than buckets. If possible, buy the window and both sets of seats. Remember, the seats themselves, not only the pedestals, are different from XJs. You can mount XJ buckets on MJ seat pedestals, but if the XJ buckets have the "rocking chair" feature they will sit much too high in the MJ. And if they're from a 4-door, they won't tip forward. The best bucket for an MK is from an MJ. Even if the upholstery and padding are shot, the frames are unique, and you can put XJ uphostery onto the MJ frames. AmJay
I'm guessing if they have bucket seats and sliders they also have the tach and gauges which is also nice to have.
jpnjim
I've had 4 MJ's (that's a low total in this crowd BTW  ), and all have had bench seats & (factory single pane) sliders. All were 4.0L Pioneers too :dunno: (3 5spds & 1 auto)
Pete M
3 pioneers so far; all buckets, 1 with full gauges, 2 with almost full gauges, all with sliders. :dunno: that's Jeep for ya. :D
Huntingman2706217
well one of the MJ's the drivers side was rusted out real bad around the hole at the front by the door... like it wasnt even connected anymore... the pass was ok... the other MJ has the drivers seat laying in the bed with no bracket... but what would these be worth to you guys having a hard time finding them? ill have to get prices... cause i don't think i want them... even the rusted one could be repaired if someone really wanted... Huntingman2706217
and ill check out the gauges also... not sure what they have... theres 3 MJ's in my local JY's but i never noticed what seats they got and what gauges... one does have a sunroof though :)
64 Cheyenne
:hijack: What about the e-brake assy on a MJ with buckets? I know the handle is the same as an XJ, but aren't the linkages after the handle for an MJ different?
Huntingman2706217
beats me... from the handle to the axle? would think they would be the same... same wheelbase... same location on the floor as an XJ...
Geonovast
beats me... from the handle to the axle? would think they would be the same... same wheelbase... same location on the floor as an XJ... I hope you're not referring to an MJ being the same wheelbase as an XJ. XJ, Shortbed MJ, and Longbed MJ all have different wheelbases.
Huntingman2706217
well i thought they would be the same wheel base anyways... well to at least the long or shot bed... of course not both... but maybe close enough for the cables to reach right anyways... an inch off isnt gonna hurt nothin... Geonovast
A shortbed's wheelbase is about a foot longer than an XJ, and the longbed is about 6 inches longer than the shortbed.
Pete M
:hijack: What about the e-brake assy on a MJ with buckets? I know the handle is the same as an XJ, but aren't the linkages after the handle for an MJ different? MJs only came with one ebrake assembly. foot pedal over on the left. LBs and SBs may have different lengths of cable under the bed though.
Huntingman2706217
ill double check that tomorrow as i thought i remembered seeing the handle in the middle? I'm proby wrong though... maybe to may XJ pictures in my head...
Huntingman2706217
Awwww crap... so what driveshafts does everyone use to convert the short beds to 4x4??? Other then a stock 4x4 Mj... cause I never see them in the junkyards... lol
Pete M
I had my 2wd shaft cut down.
wyk
1, and only Comanche '86 XLS(which I would trade for a like- condition XJ, btw since I need room for my hounds), buckets, sliding window, tach, oil, temp. Bleh
jpnjim
I had my 2wd shaft cut down. I didn't want the fat tube, so I cut down a 72' 401 4spd Javelin/AMX's driveshaft. (sacrilege, I know, but it goes good with the 69' Hemi Charger rear Dana 60 back there :clapping: )
Huntingman2706217
lol... thats wrong... but thats how it goes... ill probly see what i can do with my stock XJ rear... since i won't be using it anymore anyways... i got a AX-15 from a 96 today... tranny, sliding back window, clutch, flywheel, back motor plate, transmission mount, reservoir and line, and 2 black window handles all for $150 today... i looked at the seats again on the MJ at the yard i was at and the pass is already pulled out... they both DO fold forwards... but the drivers front mounts are shot... grey fabric... but i ran out of money to buy and try and resell... so if anyones from the A.t.l. better go get them... theres no back window now... CRAP... i forgot to look at the gauges... also pullapart north has 2 more AX-15's... one of each style... 120k on the internal with a busted housing due to idiot who pulled the motor BUT would be cheaper and could swap housings... unknown on the 95 cause cluster is gone... Geonovast
You'll need an AX-15's crossmember. Also, you can't use a 91+ cluster in an 89. Electronics are completely different. You'll need a full cluster from an 87-90 for an 89.
Huntingman2706217
the crossmember was gone... ive read te "official" ba-10/ax-15 swap thread over at naxja and its said the crossmember will work just needs to be moved back... that it sits about an inch higher though so the newer crossmember is better... but since there the same as a automatic there a dime a dozen in any of my local junk yards if i can't get something to go right... also I'm not so worried about dash cluster... mines fine... just people saying certain ones are harder to come by so i was gonna look for everyone...
