Checking the VIN

and the http://jeep.avtograd.ru/VIN/vin_en.asp came back as

I have an AMC Corp. VIN list I found on the web that lists the following for the 5th digit:

5th digit - transmission

A 3-speed, automatic, column shift, full-time transfer case

B automatic, part-time transfer case

C automatic, full-time transfer case

E automatic, column shift, part-time transfer case

F 5-speed manual, part-time transfer case

G 4-speed manual, full-time transfer case

H 4-speed manual, full- or part-time transfer case

J automatic, column shift, full- or part-time transfer case

K automatic, full- or part-time transfer case

L 5-speed manual, part-time transfer case

M 4-speed manual, part-time transfer case

N 5-speed manual, part-time transfer case

P 5-speed manual, full-time transfer case

W 5-speed manual, no transfer case

X part-time transfer case

not sure of its accuracy but "G" matches what avtograd gave you. I don’t think anyone would convert from a 4WD to a 2WD but I guess anything is possible.

The decoder is wrong, yet again.

Your VIN: 1JTMG6417JT247xxx

From the 88 FSM

1 - US manufacture

J - Jeep

T - truck

M - 4.0l

G - 4 spd Auto column shift 2wd

64 - SWB 2wd

1 - Base Model(consensus idea here at CC, FSM doesn't show this)

7 - check digit

J - 1988(self-edited, reading without my glasses)

T - Toledo,OH

247XXX - Serial Number

that seems right for the 1 since his has the driver side only "flag" mirror.

what are the rest of the numbers that go in that spot along with what they mean here at the CC, just out of curiosity?

depends on year.

For 86:

7 - X

8 - XL

9 - XLS

F - Custom(Metric Tonne)

G - X(MT)

H - XL(MT)

J - XLS(MT)

For 87-90:

P - Pioneer

S - Chief

T - Laredo

F - Base(MT)

R - Pioneer(MT)

U - Laredo(MT)

I don't have the Eliminator, or Street Comanche listing though.

what about the 91s and 92s?

and we could get the eliminator off brett since he has my old 88 eliminator. i don't think i still have the vin for it around on anything... :hmm:

Alex

I don't have a listing of those. I never owned a Jeep that new. What is the VIN on Rob's old one?

?????

I didn't know there was an '88 Eliminator. I thought that didn't show up until 1990.

You folks rock jamminz.gif

Funny how one little question can raise such information to the top of the stew.

Alex,

Actually I have "flag-style" on both sides, that was the only reason I knew what type "belonged" on the truck and what it looked like.

Thanks again

yep it was an 88 eliminator :D . had 177 hp and I'm not quite sure on the torque. could burn the tires on take off. and that was my first vehicle. said right on the title that it was one. and if i could find the vin or get it off brett it would say. if you go look on robs mj history page it says that it was introduced in 88 and set the speed record making the 4.0 the fastest engine in its class. then it reset that record in 91 i think and became the fastest engine yet again.

whowey - robs page has the list for everything but 91-92s. here is a link to the decoder page.

http://comanchemj.1hwy.com/custom3.html

see how it matches up to what you have and then maybe we will have a complete set minus the 91-92s.

Alex

I had forgotten Rob had a VIN list on his site.

But it does match my FSM list for the US stuff. I don't have anything listed for the export stuff.
