Recommended Posts

as you know my engine blew in my 88 mj

now, my 92 has a problem

whenever i turn a minor corner, and my passengers tire hits any size bump

my steering wheel jerks back and forth so bad that i almost have to come to a complete stop to not die.

also around 45mph to 60mph, my rear passenger is making a crazy whining sound???

this sucks!!!!! :wall: :fs1:

Welcome to death wobble.

Check your front trackbar bolts and bushings, they should be tight. Next would be the steering linkage followed by the control arms. Did this start up after you stuck the plow on it, or is the plow still mounted to the 88?

As for the right rear whine, is your differential full of oil? Are the brakes dragging? Or could it actually be the rear U-joint?

the plows not gonna go on the 92

i found an engine w/100k on it for $300.00! at a respected junkyard

i found a mechanic to install it fro maximum amount $750

what about the track bar or the steering stabalizer?

could that be it.

also, i have o idea how to check any of these diagnosis you guys are giving me....I'm a noobie.....sorry.

thanks for all your guys help.....really

Have someone (with the truck off) move the steering wheel back and fourth small amounts quickly, and get underneath. You'll be looking for movement in any joint, but the ones to watch are the trackbar at both ends. That seems to be the most common problem.

mine was really bad when i first bought it, there's a s-curve on the highway here with a ridge in the road right in the middle of the curve, and when i hit the ridge it was so bad that it would literally shake and jump into the next lane.. put new tires on it, and it hasn't come back... yet.....

well, i took all of your advice the best i could for the "testing" of whats giving me the death wobble

the first thing i notices was my end links were looking a little sqished

so i replaced them...i know small project but you gotta crawl before you walk

very easy..garage price:$120.00

me doing it, $16.00 per link and about 1 hours work total

here's some before and after pics cuz i know you dudes want your pics!!! :rotf:

oh, let me tell you all the testing results:

everything seemed solid...

tires lifted up tested the vertical/horizontal shake......solid

lifted tires with prybar underneath and lifted .......no irregular movement

while i was in there, i checked the shocks, all 3

not sure what the vertical shock is called, but they were all good

then i took it for the test drive

no death wobble that i can tell, but the same clunking niose coming from same place, passengers front

any other suggestions?

someone told me that the sway bar might be bad and the only way to test it was to get a new one....true?

With a front right clunk I would replace the axle end of the trackbar bushing.

This is one end of your trackbar. Replace the bushing that this bolt slides through.

Could also be the control arm bushings or ball joints wiggling when the weight of the truck is pushing down on them. But like you said, baby steps
