A friend has a complete axle set with a 6 inch out of a Cherokee that was totaled.Will it work in my MJ? If so will I have to do anything to the drive shaft ,and do I have to add a SLE?

I lifted TJ's and YJ's this my first MJ....

Any help I can get will be greatly appreciated.

the front stuff will work. not so much the rear, but going SOA will match that front lift anyway.

 

SYE will not be needed (but is a good strength upgrade if you can float the money). MJs have waaaaaay more wheelbase and so the rear shaft is huge. At 6" you should look into getting a rear driveshaft that's maybe an inch longer than current. But other guys have run the stocker for a while.

Are you saying the rear won't work even if I get the axles that came out of the Cherokee with the lift?

I thought the only difference was SOA on the cherokee ,SUA on the MJ???

The price is right thats the only reason why I'm considering lifting the truck...

cherokee rear leaves are shorter than comanche ones. so they just plain won't work...your axle won't be centered in the wheel wells. if you use them.

 

 

the spring perches are different widths between being cherokee and comanche, on top of being SOA vs. SUA, so to use that rear axle you'd have to have spring perches welded in the right spot, with the pinion angle set correctly

So I can use the front set up and do a SOA on the rear and I should be fine?Where should I set the pinion angle when I weld the perches back in?Is there a degree or a point on the Comanche I should point the pinion at?

The Cherokee axles are geared better than my current axles,and the whole thing is $150.

Buy it or not????

You can use the XJ Axles, the rear will just need the spring perches cut off and rewelded on for the MJ springs, you would have 2 do the same thing with the MJ axle either way. Also youll need to fab rear shock mounts as well. Other than that just use your MJ leafs and youll net between 5-6" in the rear.

Wow 150 clams is a steal! Don't forget about extending brake lines and make sure you have all the front end goodies to complete it, too. And the alignment after the lift. Just making sure you got all your bases covered before the start of the project :thumbsup:

x2 make sure you grab everything for the lift, brake extensions, and track bar and all mounts. good luck

I had the Comanche on the road today for the first time ,took it for a drive today to pick up the lift and axles.I'm going to get everything cleaned up and ready to install.I'm ordering perch's and will install it over the next couple of weekends,I will post pictures in the projects section tomorrow before I get started....Wish me luck!!!And thanks for the help
