AutoMoto
Yes, I said street tire. My MJ is a 2wd, AND a work horse, do MPG's is where it's at, when you have to drive all over town! I'm looking for a decent, cheap tire to fit on my Canyon's and improve my MPG's.
CWLONGSHOT
You get what you pay for, decent, cheap is neither decent of cheap in the long run... Buy the best all season tire you can afford. It doesn't need to be a LT tire. Stop in your local retailer and ask to see whats most popular and go for it. CW
Randy in Maine
I run the Michelin LTX M/S in stock 215/75/15 size and even though they are a standard load "SL" tire, they do pretty well on the Comanche. I have about 50K on them and they show almost no wear. http://www.tirerack.com/tires/Spec.jsp? ... ageLocQty=

CRF136N
You get what you pay for, decent, cheap is neither decent of cheap in the long run... Buy the best all season tire you can afford. It doesn't need to be a LT tire. Stop in your local retailer and ask to see whats most popular and go for it. CW Well, CW, it appears as if we are just going to have to agree to disagree :shake: It appears as if in every tire thread, you tout domestic brand name tires...I on the other hand, speaking from 8 years of experience running a tire shop swear by foreign...simply because times now are tough, and I believe in getting the most for your money. I have run Prime Wells on my past '88 longbed MJ with extreme satisfaction in both highway and snow driving. I also have run GT Radial (formerly known as Runway), and that is our shops #1 selling tire; not only LONG life and reliability, but price. In my search for a great, aggressive 31" all terrain, I have moved on to General Tire, which I am very satisfied with. Buying tires is a BIG investment :ack: I strongly believe in getting the most for your money in these trying times. Spending an extra few hundred dollard is not always warranted, especially when your only demands are for street use; I always suggest going onto the big tire distributors websites (such as tirerack.com and discounttiredirect.com being my favorites) and reading the customer reviews based on the tire list available for your size and needs; its a great resource. Unfortunately, since the chinese tire tax has kicked into effect, all other foreign and domestic brands viewed this as an opportunity to jack the prices sky high (to remain competitive they claim), making a tire purchase that much more difficult. This all said, and its been said before, but its a good idea to avoid brand name deals at discount retailers (costco, walmart, etc) as they DO recieve the bottom barrel rejects that don't qualify as a quality tire, even of they carry the same name. While you may luck out -and many people do-, there is always the chance you will wind up with more of a headache than anything (low treadlife, impossible to balance, etc) All else fails, if you MUST have a "brand name" tire...without breaking the bank, there is always craigslist :D Good luck. -James
streetjeep2.5
I have Hercules Ultra Plus P225 75R on mine for three years now, and never a problem with bead slip, etc. The were not that expensive and have been good in rain and when I have to drive in snow they have done just fine. Tread getting low now, so gotta get some new ones soon.

Ahh, very good point, but if you have kept up on the many other tire related threads he clearly shows his support for BFG a/t's, and every time he usually makes a point of "domestic" made. HOrnbrod
Cool. Let's start another useless topic: what's the BEST motor oil, oil filter, and/or (gasp) Renix or HO engine? These threads are completely counter productive, and are not worth posting up on. Do your research for your own needs and budget, analyze, make your own mind up, then get what best suits you. I frankly do not give a dayem who here buys what tire, oil filter, and/or MJ/XJ engine; I get what I want after I learn enough to make an informed unbiased decision. :smart:

I suppose its boredom that leads me to bite these worthless posts, but as you pointed out we all have our own opinion. Maybe we should just lock a thread in the tech section for oil, filters and tires, and just have a pole at the top of whats overall favored in each catagory, along with individual comments all to avoid these seemingly repetitive threads that the midnight CC surfing dylerious people like me have nothing better to do than post their opinion, stirring contraversy and taking up otherwise useful space in our forum :wall: This way anyone who is lost and confused as to what to purchase can resort to this :hmm: :dunno: Or maybe just ban altogether any thread that relates to tires, oil or filters :rotf: OK, I have to get some sleep now. -James

James, I must add that I do not know why you posted how and what you did. I DO like and recommend BFG ATS. But this was not what the OP asked for, so this is NOT what I recommended. I do not pretend to know you or anything about you. But if you will allow for a little tidbit of knowledge. There are a couple little sayings that are oh so true. I post them occasionally. The average age on here is usually very young sans a couple of us "older" guys. So I'll word it like this: the older you get and the more things you experience the more these words will clarify. "Its not what you spend, its when you spend it" "the sweetness of a good deal sours when the reality of poor quality become a reality" "you get what you pay for". This is not a put down, not at all, take a hint form us "older guys" and you may just save some of the money that we lost or wasted learning these simple things.. Peace and merry Christmas to all. CW Yep. "Shop smart". I start looking for tires about 6 months before I know I will need to buy. Years ago I knew I would need new street tires for my Cherokee 4x2 before winter. Started looking in April or May. June or July Sears had a REALLY good sale on some quality tires with a no interest 6 months pay off, so I bought now and had them mounted in November when the weather was starting to get icy. Taking wheels off and taking them to Sears saved a few bucks also. True on anything. See what you know to be a really good deal on something you know you will soon need, if you can buy at the time, do it.
