Went to look at a '01 XJ today about 50 miles away. Checked it out around 1:30 and went shopping with the girlfriend (XJ was close to a city with real stores :dunno: Headed home around 6:00 on interstate when it began to spit. Wound up in a stand-still for 35 minutes because of a one car accident in the median. Then saw a newer GMC pickup on its side in the ditch. There is about 1/4" on the ground now.

Coulda swore I was back in CO trying to drive home from work :rotf: People just don't know how to drive in snow! And it is usually a pickup/suv or AWD car in the ditch or flopped.

4wd means four GO not four STOP!!!!!!!

Will say the narrow 30" bfg ATs on the XJ do pretty well in the snow. (My folks '93... did not buy the '01, today)

Don't 4wd's brake better because it's all four wheels? :dunno:

If anyone drives a 4wd vehicle as carefully as a 2wd vehicle, they are much safer in the winter.

But drive it like you THINK you have a 4wd rig (and lots of people DO), and you're just asking for trouble.

we have long hard winters up here, and once the snow hits the ground, its there, it builds up and at some points there is inches of compacted snow everywhere. having 4wd means nothing. if you can't get around in 2, 4 isnt going to help. i only used my 4x twice last winter ,on the streets... i advise all to find an empty parking lot and learn to drive properly :brows: best to know how your vehicle will handle in different circumstances. having studded tires is usualy a good idea if you like to stop... but if you want to have fun.... mud terrains all the way jamminz.gif

The empty parking lot training has proved to be the most valuable driving lessons I ever had. Sure, my Jeeps might not handle the best on the slick stuff, but I absolutely hate driving my girlfriend's car in the stuff. She does not get it. I like knowing exactly how the Jeep will behave when I input a change in the throttle, brake, or steering.

That's why I like my dodge cummins... It's predictably bad. As long as I remember I'm driving it, I'll be fine. Stopping distance is measured in miles or minutes, merging into traffic involves getting the truck completely sideways, and there's no turning above 60km/h. Don't get in my way, I'm big and going in a straight line, unless I'm sideways.

I'll be buying studded tires tomorrow... I'm going to tow my trailer around a bunch (have to move), and really don't feel like doing it with BFG A/Ts. I'll say I really preferred my old MT/Rs, even without siping.

I can't remember tha last time it snowed in Houston but we actually got about 2 inches worth of tha crap Friday. Most of it melted by tha next day so all thats left now is a mud. While it was comming down and had everything blanketed I gotta admit it looked kinda pretty. Other than that yall can have it.

Hey i actually got some pics of the snow in Katy, but none of the my mj in it, or any of my jeeps for that matter, they were all inside
