Just got back from the U-pull-it emporium, Excuse me while I wipe a tear from my eye. I just went after a rearview mirror for a S10 so I didn't take any heavy tools with me. Big mistake. There was a '87 MJ metric ton package there in the most cleanest, pristine condition I have ever seen a vehicle in. There was not one spot or speck of rust on it, floorboards included.Or dents or scratches.Made a dash to the desk to see about getting it. NOWAY. Throw a couple expletives in there. Got what I cud off it,23 gal gas tank, emergency brake assy.Front and rear chrome bumpers. Both rearview mirrors.Electronic brake controller, both TL. Going back tomorrow and get the rear end and both springs. Hope they'l still be there. I live to far out in the boonies to go back today. I wud like to have a little heart to heart conversation with the PO. Reaching for another Kleenix, and cold beer. WHAT IN HELL WAS HE THINKING! ! ! !

So who takes a camera to the JY? Heck, I didn't even have enuff proper tools with me the way it was.You try removing bumpers and brake brackets with a 6in Crescent and a pair of channel locks. And don't forget the tank. The only way I did it was cause nothing was rusted. If it ran as good as it looked I would have went $6-7K for it. Heck!! I wud've went $8K for it.

UHOH...Got a cell phone. Forgot I had it. But then I'm still tryin to figure out how to make a call on the thing, let alone take pics. And besides, if I did take a pic wouldn't know how to transfer it to a puter.Ain't technologically challenged. Just don't understand it.An owners manual wud help but it didn't come with one.Was a present.

It was the 4.0 with auto, column shift,Long bed, metric package. The dash, gauge cluster, FA, radiator,Driver side door hardware, and Tailgate already gone.Only been there 2 days. I can get the engine for$200.Condition unknown.Tranny $75,CU. TC $50.Fenders $30ea.Hood $30.Bed $200.Doors $35, Cab UNK wud guess $100,Frame UNK, wud guess another $100.No title and no way to be titled in state of Colo. Other states UNK.I would make a guess everything left could be got for $500-600.Will ask tomorrow when I go back.I got those prices from their standard price list.

I've been trying to get some info but with typical beaucratic BS nobody knows anything. What I gather, but not sure of, in the CFC program there is no clause forbidding the selling of a complete unit, with or without title. The only requirment is the engine must be completely ruined by the injection of something into it. By the participating dealer, and then must be sold to a junk, salvage yard.Junk yards are there to make money so if you got enuff you can work something out with them as long as it's legal. They're not going to jeopardise their license.Looking forward to any and all comments, opinions and thoughts on the matter. Jim

uuuh, is this a CFC truck? if so you should not be able to let alone want to buy the engine off the thing. they have to kill the engine before it goes to the junk yard.

and as far as I know when a vehicle goes through the CFC the VIN is erased from the system and is no longer usable for anything, it is useless. also if it is CFC the junk yard cannot sell the entire truck, they HAVE to crush it. they can sell as many of the usable parts they can except for the engine and also the tranny as a whole unite (but I believe you can part out the trannys)

this is from what I have gathered talking to people and reading on the interwebs so some or all of it may not be true.

Yes, CFC rigs can NOT be resold by the JY. They have 6 months to sell parts and then it must be crushed. No yard is going to risk its license for a couple thousand dollars. Honestly rust free Comanches are plentiful enough in the NW that I can't imagine any of em selling for $4500 unless they were built with $4500 of after market parts! 8)

Didn't make it back to the JY Sat like I wanted. Sick horse. Went back this morn. Talked to the head guy. The truck was bought at a estate auction with a bad motor. Somebody had drained the engine oil, probably the PO. Who then died. The truck sat for 7 years, in the garage. Then the wife died. The grandkid fired the truck up and took off, not noticing the drain plug on the dash, or the pressure guage. Actually got 3 miles B4 it busted. Hauled it back to the house. Everything was sold at public auction and the JY got the truck, On my trip this AM I got the rear axle Dana 44, 3.53, both springs, shocks, Gabriel red hat, or something, the proportioning valve, Both drive shafts, and the front axle assy, Dana 30. Both springs, shocks, control arms, sway bar, Total expenditure, $210 and 5 hours of my time.Everything else that was anygood was gone or damaged. And so it goes. Jim And sorry, No pics.
