GATOR88
SO WHAT DO YALL THINK ABOUT A 350 IN A MJ OR STICK WITH A 4.0 I HAVE A BUDDY SELLING HE THE 350 FOR $250 IT NEEDS A PISTON?????
Pete M
350 engines can be very hard to cool in an MJ. we have a small engine bay and a small radiator opening. also, be prepared to kiss the rest of your drivetrain goodbye. :D Why are you typing in all capital letters? sending via a phone? GATOR88
well i am looking 2 get a little more power out of my 4.0 i am thinking abouut boring it out
Pete M
gears are generally the answer to power woes. But rebuilding the 4.0 into a 4.6 stroker has been done too. run some searches for stroker and you'll find plenty of info. Check out the stroker website too (with I can't think of offhand but you should find it on here in one of the stroker engine threads) what are you running for axles? pilotblake
I have a 350 in my truck right now. Great power, awesome sound from a little truck, haven't broken anything yet......Only because I have yet to find the solution to keeping the temps down long enough to break anything. Now with winter coming up here I can actually get out and play again, but that is usually in the snow. You would not believe the heat buildup under the hood. I have a cowl style hood with big openings in the back and still gets super hot. Running without a hood in the cool summer days helped. I just got some block hugger headers that are ceramic coated, hopefully they will help keep the heat down. If I didn't drive this thing down the road I would ditch the steering for a full hydraulic setup allowing me to run a taller radiator. Some guys get lucky :dunno: and run a stock radiator with a v8 and are fine, unless I have some unknown internal issue I can't keep my truck under 220 to save my life or the engines. My hopes is to getting my cooling issues solved before this v8 lets go, so when I find a good price on an LS1 I am good to go. I read somewhere that you need a radiator with the core with the same sq. inches as the the cubic inches of the engine plus fifty :dunno: . I also see that Novak now sells a radiator for the XJ. When I was building mine they didn't have one that would actually do the job. I had a custom aluminum radiator with the same specs essentially as the novak kryoflow with two high CFM electric fans which helped but didn't solve the problem. Sorry for the long post, it is raining here, and I am on my third cup of coffee :typing: :beerhead:
Geonovast
If you want just a "little more power", gearing is the first way to go. What do you have now? After that, the next step would be higher flowing exhaust, bored out throttle body, bigger injectors(which you'll need for a stroker) Then hit up the stroker. It's a nice, nice power upgrade, since except for some of the internals of the engine, the rest of the truck is still basically stock. I will be (eventually) building two strokers. One for my 4.0 MJ, and one for my current XJ. Really all that sucks about the stroker is I would not put it in front of a BA 10/5 or D35. You'll blow those up pretty quick. A V8 swap is a bit extreme unless you really, really want a V8. Plus, you'll need A LOT more than just the motor itself. P.S. It would help a lot if you put the basic specs of your truck in your signature; year, swb or lwb, motor, transmission, axles, any mods you have already
pilotblake
:agree: I wouldn't change my truck for the world, but at the same time I would probably go the stroker route for the next jeep.
GATOR88
THE GEARS IN MINE R 410 FRONT AND REAR I LIKE THE STROKER THAT MIGHT B THE WAY I GO WITH EVENTUALLY MY MJ WILL B PUSHING 35'S OR BIGGER I AM TYRED OF ALL THESE CHEVY FANS THE OLE JEEP WILL SHOW THEM HOW TO SLING SOME MUDD
CWLONGSHOT
Gator, Why are you yelling????? Dropping a V8 into a XJ/MJ is no problem what so ever. But as mentioned cooling it is a major issue. Golen and Hesco both make long blocks and complete stroker motors that IMHO, are a much better choice. There is a TON of info out there.. http://www.jeepstrokers.com/forum/index ... 99f659eaec http://offroad-review.com/new/index.php?page=70 http://www.jpmagazine.com/techarticles/ ... index.html http://www.jeepnuts.com/tech/stroker.htm http://home.pacbell.net/jay_w007/Hesco_motor.html http://www.hesco.us/ CW
Darren
IF YOU ARE TIRED OF CHEVY FANS, THEN WHY DO YOU WANT A 350? I THINK YOU SHOULD SWAP IN A 460. IF YOUR GONNA GET WET, YOU MIGHT AS WELL GO SWIMMING.

dasbulliwagen
Chrysler MOPAR is now selling a stroker longblock too. That would be the best way to for the power you want... stroker that is!
mvusse
Running 44s on stock Comanche running gear will last all of oh, until the first mud run. Prepare to be snapping axle shafts. A built stroker can hit 300hp without a turbo or super charger. At least one member on here has. But even with 300hp pushing them, you might need deeper than 4.10 gears to push 44s with any amount of torque. You might want to look at at least 5.38 or 5.71. Possibly even 6.17.
