stormtrooper Posted July 2, 2009 Posted July 2, 2009 now that I know what size speakers I need, I would like some opinons on diffrent brands whats everybody's favorite speaker brands? and why?
lostissues Posted July 2, 2009 Posted July 2, 2009 my opinion Jensen: crap Sony: makes OK sound pioneer: depending on the series is better then the Sony's eclipse: pretty good sound, more focused on the highs and mids Kicker: also very good, little better then the eclipse, also focuses on highs and mids Polk: very nice all around speaker, nice highs, mids and lows **Favorites** Alpine: right around the same as Polk's (at least the type R's and up) **also Favorite** these are mostly speakers you can get in big box stores (best buy, Circuit city before they were run into the ground). I have also heard good things about JL, Infinity. and don't buy anything from Dual, Boss, or anything from walmart. they have a pretty good 5.25 selection here: http://www.onlinecarstereo.com/CarAudio ... wAll=True& and the 4x6 are here: http://www.onlinecarstereo.com/CarAudio ... wAll=True& that is where I plan to buy my new components from for my car, I just have to figure out what ones to get.
mvusse Posted July 2, 2009 Posted July 2, 2009 I had Jensens in my F100. I agree, they were crap. Pioneer used to have a bad rap back in the 80s, but a friend has a pair of 6x9s in his Monte Carlo and they sound pretty good.
mfpdm Posted July 2, 2009 Posted July 2, 2009 Just went through this myself and after listening to a lot of different speakers, I chose the Infinitys in the stock size and location. I believe music should sound crisp and clean, not loud and deafning. I've got the 5 1/4 kappa series in the door and the 4 x 6 reference series in the b-pillars. Sound oh so good with just the stock radio and the pioneer 12 disc changer.
Pete M Posted July 3, 2009 Posted July 3, 2009 One more vote fpr the Infinity Kappas. Very nice sound from my 5.25 components with separate tweets fed with 75 watts rms. Speakers buried behind your butt are overrated in my opinion and I eventually dumped the added 6x9s (in little boxes) for the single 8" woofer (getting 150 rms). But if you aren't adding in external amps, even the cheap Walmart no-names are waaaaay better than 20 year old factory speakers. :D
88mjmanche Posted July 3, 2009 Posted July 3, 2009 are you joking guys i am running KENWOOD all the way there affordable dependable and most of all they are freaken hard as hell to blow. i love them ..... i got kenwood head unit, 5 inch rounds, 6x4s , 6x9s , a kenwood 2000 watt mono amp, and a 1200 watt slim sub behind the seat . its like a back rubb while driving. KENWOOD ALL THE WAY
dfreeman616 Posted July 3, 2009 Posted July 3, 2009 i've had several pioneers, including 5.25's, 6.5's, and 6x9's (can't recall the model numbers at the moment), and i've always found them to be pretty good for the money. i have a set of infinity's that will be going in soon...if i can just decide if they go in my DD, or my truck...

stormtrooper Posted July 3, 2009 Author Posted July 3, 2009 thanks guys I think I'm gonna go with the infinity kappas in 5.25" for the doors and 4"x6" in the B pillars
Pete M Posted July 3, 2009 Posted July 3, 2009 I went with the components and mounted the tweeters right above them. I had to cut a hole in the steel, but it worked out great. the splitter box is tucked up to the left of the drivers feet.

A small screw through the blank plate area.
mfpdm Posted July 4, 2009 Posted July 4, 2009 Did you need to cut the door panels to make them fit? The ones I used were the two ways with the tweeter on top of the woofer. They fit just fine but with the door panel on, the speaker grill just barely touched the tweeter. I modified the grill to give a little extra room but keep the stock look. I did a write up in the DIY section. Click Here I attached the crossover to the wiring harness in the door with a ziptie to get it up about mid door level.
