HOrnbrod
Went to the Doc this week and the results were not good. The Cholesterol and Triglyceride readings were off the scale. Doc says I need to lower my carb intake and get more exercise. So I switched to Miller High Life Light (uggg) and dug out my old 7-speed Phat cruiser. This used to be my car when we lived on Kwajalein Island (no real cars allowed) and had been packed away for over twenty years. Put some new tires, tubes, and fenders on, cleaned and lubed it up, and she still runs well. It's all aluminum, very light, and easy to peddle. Now if I can just stick with it....... :D Image Not Found
maddzz1
I hera ya, don. I have been back in the gym for 3 months after 5 years out. Doing weights 5 days a week and 1/2hr-45min cardio 4-5 days a week. I also been dieting for the 3 months (bodybuilding style of diet). I like to keep it simple so I eat the same food everyday instead of changing it. 12 weeks of the same food is getting old :ack: with only one cheat meal a week. Stick with it; it will be hard at first but within a month or two you actually feel better after the exercise.
CWLONGSHOT
Don, by all means, STICK TO IT!!! As you likely remember, I am also on the mend and having to adjust my entire eating philosophy. BEST THING we did was go thru the cabinets and throw out or give away all bad stuff!! Of coarse, mine was a bit more life or death, but sounds like your a candidate too, so a good offensive is preferred to my defensive posture. My total cholesterol was just under 200 at the time of my heart attack. Last month they where 91.   :D NO $#!&, 91. Even I couldn't believe that!!! Walking (4-5 miles) along with my three times a week, hour long rehab is my exercise. I eat all chicken, fish and salads. I only drink water and black decaf coffee. My total sodium intake is about 800 - 1000 Mg and my total fat intake is about 250Mg for the day. I don't watch the sugar, but do steer clear of anything really loaded with it. Cottage cheese with fruit is lunch. Oatmeal, Farina or Mayo is breakfast. Normal balanced dinner, smaller portions. Snacks are any fruit or veggie with water. I have lost almost 60# and on average 2-3 a week since this whole thing started. I feel great, my doctor is happy and the wife is ecstatic, she is even a bit "friskier" :brows: than before. Its WAY WORTH IT!!! Good luck, CW

HOrnbrod
Thanks CW, JT, and Jim. I got this Phat bike while stationed in Kwajalein as it is one of the world's most corrosive environments. The bike is all alum or stainless. The salt permeates everything year round. A POS steel Huffy or Schwinn bike has a lifespan of just over a year before the frame breaks in half and/or the spokes rot out. A brand new MJ would last about three years there. They even have to use s/s rebar in the buildings and runway as the normal steel rebar rusts out and the concrete buildings start dropping pieces of themselves on people's heads. Great fishin' though CW. 800# marlin are little guys there. Used to love catchin 40+ pound mahi-mahi and ono on 20# test. :D Great eating too. I've always eaten lots of fish and chicken w. fresh vegtables and have no problem w. that. No weight problems either. My problem is the brew. We'll see how all looks next month when I go back to the Doc.

pantera1973
Now that is a good looking bike! I especially like that cool cantilevered rear rack. It still looks great after 20+ years. Here's my ride: 6061 Aluminum stretched frame (I'm 6'4 & it fits my big butt perfectly), aluminum rims, stainless spokes. I love the light weight, especially compared to the old heavy steel cruisers, they wear me out too quickly. I've just started riding it to get rid of some excess baggage and get into some semblance of shape also. I guess all us older guys need to start taking better care of ourselves (as I take another sip of my Bud Light)! :rotf:

Except for maybe Eagle. :D Thanks for your nice post, straight to the point. I have read and will heed. pantera1973, great looking ride! I especially like the springer fork. That "cool cantilevered rear rack" was added by moi only to easily carry a couple of cases of beer home. :D My old Phat also has Al rims and s/s spokes, but the rims were painted black and it took less than six months at Kwaj for the salt to get under the paint and peel it off. It's natural Al now. :D It also has a Shimano Nexus 7 hub w. coaster brake. Looks like your Della Cruz is a single speed? You can usually pick up one of these Nexus hub 26" wheels w. hub on Ebay reasonably. Easy bolt-in job. Really helps out huffing it up all those hills.
Drahcir495
Image Not Found I hope you can knock that down. We are all pulling for you! Now, I can't believe I am the first to point this out - The Bike is Chrome :rotfl2:
88XJSport
To keep you motivated to stay on that bike, you will have to sell me the Malibu SS. :D
HOrnbrod
Well, not chrome per se Drahcir495, more like natural aluminum. :D No chrome anywhere, except on some of the hardware nuts and bolts. As far as the SS 88XJSport, you'll have to take that up with Mama. She loves her rig, so I doubt it's going to happen.

Hawk
Stick to it, man. Do you have any yard work that needs to be done? My dad's building a retaining wall at his place and lost 10lbs in the past week. I've always had the opinion that the best exercise is a hard day of work. I found this stock photo of what my bike looked like in original form. I'll restore it one of these days. Lots of memories, had it since I was 8. It's a mid 80's Redline RL
Pete M
I still have my original schwinn hanging up in the garage. Yellow banana seat and everything. :D I too will restore my ol' bike to its former glory (though I might change the colors). I think it's getting time to break out the mountain bike. Maybe this year I'll buy some "street" tires for it. It's a bit too much of a workout with those dang nobby tires. :rotf:

You can always have it chrome plated in the future, so all is not lost ;) . It's a mid 80's Redline RL 20  I remember those! Nice Hawk, nice.
