My STD won't even pay the bills. My LTD pays more but then I'll be using cobra to keep insurance. At least I should be able to use the computer while I'm off if I can sit here with the brace. Ask some buddys or see if someone on the board will borrow you a laptop. I don't watch almost any cable TV so without the computer I'd go nuts. :wall: If not I'd have to get a wireless keyboard and mouse to use with my 35" widescreen HDTV as a monitor. BLHTAZ
Why are they keeping you out of work so long CW?? :hmm: My friend that just had his 4th heart attack and his 3rd stent put in only 3 weeks ago is already back to work and was actually only out 2 weeks. He was only out 4 days on the third one, but that was against doctors orders big time. I know every situation is different, but 2 months seems extreme from what I have seen. He was only out 4 days on the third one, but that was against doctors orders big time. I know every situation is different, but 2 months seems extreme from what I have seen. Seems that way to me as well... At least it did when I was srtill in Hospital. Now that I am home, I can see how much I really was effected. Just carring on a normal conversation tires me out for about 15-20 mins. If it is at all inrence, I would not be able to contribute. I feel pressure and "funny" very quickly. Thats just talking!! Right now I cannot imagion doing any lifting or walking stairs like I need to @ work. Its early still, I need to heal. This was a great deal of trama to my heart. My doc tells me that a BP of 195/114 really takes its toll. The 2mo estimate is mine, not the docs, so I sure HOPE it works out that I can get back sooner. But there are two guys in my dept alone who had heart attacks. One almost identicle to mine but @ age 51. He was out 2mo. That was about 3 years back. Another guy was 47, but he had 3 stents put in and a worse attack. He two was out 2 months. That was 10 years back. My cardio doc will let me know next Monday. If I stand or sit upright too long I can feel pressure build as well. These feelings are all brand new. before this I was never so aware of "feelings" inside my chest. So its entirely possible I just have a heightened awareness of them for a while. Time to go lay down..... Talk to you guys later.. CW

robfg67
Hey CW, I just saw your post. Very scary stuff! The good news is that now you know what you need to do to prevent it from happening again. Most guys after having bypass surgery feel like "new men”, so I'm sure you'll bounce-back even stronger. Earlier, you mentioned being very active at work. While that's preferable to sitting at a desk; it really isn't a substitute for exercise. You need to get your heart rate up for a sustained amount of time to realize any health benefit. I started running/jogging and paying more attention to what I eat a few years back and I can feel the difference. I now run 2.5 miles every morning-it took me months to get up to this distance, and I actually enjoy it now. We want to have you around, so get healthy! brdhntr
hang in there man. it'll all be ok soon. it does take a while to bounce back. i understand your feeling more "in tune" with your quirks, pains, and pressures in your chest now. going through such a thing does make you a bit gunshy for a while, but you'll get that "everything's ok" feeling back soon. take care and pay attention to what your body is telling you. you'll learn what it all means in time. ;)

Akula69
Geez CW...I go away for a little while and you up and try to die on us!!!! Really though - I'm glad they caught it and you're OK. Yes, welcome to the cardiac club...I am a member as well. 02/08 with a single instance of a heartbeat of 20 I was told I should get a pacemaker.....at 47. Not a fun time had by all, let alone me. I'm the youngest guy the Doc ever put one in. However, I am living proof you can beat it and go on. I run every day now (or almost every day) and have gotten back to the Cooper standards of 1.5 mile run in 14 minutes. When the 'boss' lets you out, come on down and we'll have you comparing stories with the 19 year olds in no time!
CWLONGSHOT
Went to the Doc today. he said everything looked really good. EKG was normal, chest/heart sounds good and heart cath path looks great and almost healed. Last tests at hospital and BP today normal. All good and what he expected. I even got extra points for getting all the glue form the chest stickers off with out looking too much like that idiot on the 40yr old Virgin!!! (Hairy chest here :dunno: ) Going to do a chemical stress test (Little treadmill running, I did have a heart attack after all. :shake: :shake: )and more blood work & EKG the end of the first week in Feb. Then an appointment back with him the following week. With luck and no complications. Hopefully at that point I will get a return to work date. I could be back to work before the end of Feb, but 1st of March is more likely.  I was cleared for some walking, so I can get out of this house!!! Gotta take it way easy, at least for a couple weeks. I feel better everyday, but find that I do tire quite quickly. CW

brdhntr
good news!!! :clapping: the chemical stress test is no problem. you feel like you're running a marathon while you're laying still. it's a little uncomfortable because you have no control over your heart rate. the best thing (in my opinion) about it is the relief you get. with a regular stress test, you may feel unsure as your heart rate increases and they want you to keep going. with the chemical test, they control it and it's only there briefly and goes down pretty quick. plus you feel like they are watching you more closely.
TNT
Good to hear everything is turning out good for you. I always have to run on the treadmill for my stress tests. My target heart rate is 165 bpm. I feel crap when its done. I don't run anywhere else, it hurts my back too much. Next time I'm going to try to get the drug induced heart rate stress test.

I guess in an effort to se how active I really was. We talked about my Jeeps, job and my work with local law enforcement. We spoke about how a heart attack makes a person really look at what they do and what they eat. He spoke about depression that is often associated and living in fear of too much salt or fat content. I told him, thats just not me and I was never one to live in fear. The topic came back to the treadmill and the stress test. I told him I was big into weight training some 25years ago but never a runner, I'm not built for it. He said "so you never ran". I told him heck no, I carry a gun. I don't run! :D He liked my answer. I don't know how much actual treadmill I will see. He did say it will not be a normal test as it was supposed to help me not kill me! They will be injecting something necular into me?? Oh fun... CW
BLHTAZ
They will be injecting something necular into me?? Oh fun... CW I have been through that twice now. They don't make you run, but it can be a brisk walk on the tread mill. They put a port in your arm, get you going on the tread mill to get your heart rate up then inject the nuclear stuff while you are walking to monitor what your heart is doing and how everyting is flowing with some x-rays. It is typically not a big deal, but being the weakened condition you are in right now, it will probably take a little more out of you.

brdhntr
the radioactive stuff they run into you is no big deal. they do it so it shows better for them. it's kinda cool, when i had my last stress test in november, i agreed to do a study(at mayo). i do alot of studies there, about 10-15 a year in the hopes it may help others in the future. anyway, this one was for a new chemical to be injected, instead of the nuclear crap. it was amazing! when it went in, it was like turning a light on inside me. you could see everything in great detail, every little inch. wow, it was just cool. if it get's approved by the fda, you guys could start to see it in a year or two. there was no side effects and it gives the docs so much more info. i hope you guys can see it soon. it makes a huge difference.
