UNL1MTD
Recently I found a semi-local seller that has some key components that interest me for a future 4wd swap on my mj. I'm not hell bent on making this happen right away, but the opportunity is here to maybe get the trans and tcase at a deal, so I might as well. So what would you pay for a AX15 and NP 231 from a 91-95 era XJ with unknown mileage. Both came from the same xj and are 23 spline. I won't spoil what his asking price is right away. I'm curious what you would pay from a third party and or from a junk yard? -Sean
BLHTAZ
ASSuming that they are in good working order... -$400 tops private sale -$200 tops from salvage
Pete M
About the same here. Being able to talk with the person who last drove it can bump the price a bit. Junkyard warranties mean little if you don't plan to use the parts for quite a while.
UNL1MTD
Well the guy is wanting 250 for each so I guess that is a little high. But I'm thinking that if I bought both that he might be willing to deal a bit. I suppose I was thinking that the AX15 was priced affordable at 250, but I thought that the np231 is only worth about 100 - 150. He must have got them from the junkyard as he has no clue what year the xj was they came from. Maybe I will offer up 300 and see what happens. Pete M
The AX-15 has some value due to relative rarity, but np-231 t-cases are everywhere.
DirtyComanche
The AX-15 has some value due to relative rarity, but np-231 t-cases are everywhere. They aren't really rare. If anything it is rare to get a working BA10-5. AX-15s are perhaps more expensive because of desirability, but there is plenty of wrecked jeeps to yield them. mjeff87
Sean, The 'yards down here in Richmond charge $99 + core for trannies and TC's. 98% of XJ's that come in are AW4/4.0's but they do get the occasional AX15. Speaking for myself, if I were buying either without having to remove them from the donor vehicle (like I would have to in the 'yard), I'd add $25-50 each for not having to drop them myself......depending on condition, I'd say $300 for the pair is fair in this neck 'o the woods  Jeff
HKB3
I got a 1996 AX-15/231 with the slave & master cylinder for $200, I had to pull it myself though(Saw-Z-All made it easy  )

BPB
I have never paid more then $50 for a 231, nor would I ever pay more then $100 for an ax-15 the junkyard warranty is worth more then the craigslister's word, that is for sure. You can get a running driving xj for $500 any day of the week here. pull it your self don't be a mark!!!!
UNL1MTD
Well it looks like 300 was a buying price. I should be picking them up some time between the holidays. Perhaps I could have even gone a bit lower on my offer, ohwell. Looks like next year will be a slow collection of parts cumlating in a 4wd swap. Although, I do have to get married in November. So maybe the 4wd swap will happen in 2010.

Geonovast
I paid $200 for a YJ AX-15 and an NP231.
pingpong
It all depends on the kind of deal you can work. I got 2 ax15's for a 91 4.0 head  Np 231's well, they ussually go for 100 bucks. At least that is the most I have seen them for on the local boards, unless they had a SYE or some other conversion. If I would have known you were looking for one... I know where a whole vehicle can be had cheap ( ask Jeff the story)

I know where a whole vehicle can be had cheap ( ask Jeff the story) Well I haven't paid yet. What's the story? I truthfully don't think I'm overpaying. 100 for the 231, 200 for the AX15, thats about what I though it would end up being. Plus I don't have to pull them. However if there is a better deal, then it would only be wise to consider it.
mjeff87
[Well I haven't paid yet. What's the story? There's a twitchy little fella down in Tidewater that has a whole XJ he needs gotten rid of for cheap/free. Only problem is that he wants 7/8ths of the stuff he bolted onto it, like all the engine accessories, full front suspension, and probably more. The deal is you get an AX15 out of it along with a 4.0 that has a spun bearing, and an XJ shell to deal with, somehow :clapping: Oh, and you have to go pick it up and haul it back to your place to dismantle it......and he's not willing to pay for gas. UNL1MTD
got a link to it? Sounds like more than what I want to deal with, but not out of the realm of considering.
