project88mj Posted December 1, 2008 Posted December 1, 2008 any one know if the 177hp was at the flywheel or at the tires? if at the flywheel what did the 88 2wd mj with AW-4 put out at the tires?
project88mj Posted December 1, 2008 Author Posted December 1, 2008 add 227,000 miles to the equation and tell me what you think
SoloCamo Posted December 1, 2008 Posted December 1, 2008 Flywheel... And I'll say 114. 114? I know there is parasitic loss due to the auto, but I figured it would be more in the ball park of 130-140ish at the wheels. This is of course on a new motor
FxRacing282 Posted December 2, 2008 Posted December 2, 2008 i wouldnt think its that low. maybe 150's on a new motor - 227K = 120ish.. maybe?
Pete M Posted December 2, 2008 Posted December 2, 2008 I'd be surprised if I had any more than 50 at the rear of my 88. :shake: She's a tired, tired engine... :( Lots of torque around idle though. :D
Jacobs Posted December 2, 2008 Posted December 2, 2008 Had a fairly worn Renix put down 104 on a Dynojet, corrected. The 4.0 I'm driving now probably wouldn't muster 80.
DirtyComanche Posted December 2, 2008 Posted December 2, 2008 Parasitic loss is about 30%. Always. Don't blame the auto.
project88mj Posted December 2, 2008 Author Posted December 2, 2008 what do yo thimk a new (performance) cam would do to the stock motor
BREEZE1 Posted December 2, 2008 Posted December 2, 2008 I'm going to put an HO head, intake, tb, header on mine. I plan on hitting up the dyno before and after just for kicks (you know why not, I can’t find where anyone else has)! I assume it should make a difference, but then again I'm ASSUMING. :dunno:
SoloCamo Posted December 2, 2008 Posted December 2, 2008 Parasitic loss is about 30%. Always. Don't blame the auto. General rule of thumb, or specific to our setups? How much would an auto add on to that roughly? I'm by no means a dyno expert so this is all good info to me  what do yo thimk a new (performance) cam would do to the stock motor Not much running stock otherwise
HOrnbrod Posted December 2, 2008 Posted December 2, 2008 Drivetrain HP loss on my basic stroker engine (at engine vs. rear wheel dyno readings) when I installed it about four years ago was 28%. Torque loss was 26%, about average for the AW4. Of course, I've surpassed the original at engine HP/Torque readings at the rear wheel now by about 25% with various mods. :D
project88mj Posted December 3, 2008 Author Posted December 3, 2008 i was wanting to instal a cam in my I6 i love the way "big cams" sound la lump la lump la lump would a cam give the I6 a sound like that?
Pete M Posted December 3, 2008 Posted December 3, 2008 From what I've read, the really aggressive cams help on high rpm power, but hurt low rpm power. Those are relative terms though. I don't know anyone near me that's put a really aggressive cam in a 4.0.
FxRacing282 Posted December 4, 2008 Posted December 4, 2008 i was wanting to instal a cam in my I6 i love the way "big cams" sound la lump la lump la lump would a cam give the I6 a sound like that? well its a 4.0, they only sound so nice. but it might, and you wouldnt hit the powerband until like 4k maybe 5k. so youd be trying to crawl a log and you would be bakin the torque converter or making glass on the clutch.
carnuck Posted December 5, 2008 Posted December 5, 2008 Unless you go carbed, most cams are NOT ground to work for EFI and will screw around with the sensors. Put HO injectors into a Renix motor and you will get a NICE seat of the pants kick. The HO head is only about 15% of the power boost in the HO motor.
FxRacing282 Posted December 5, 2008 Posted December 5, 2008 sounds like its time for a SBC400 swap.
project88mj Posted December 5, 2008 Author Posted December 5, 2008 are you telling me that HO injectors will give me a power boost?
FxRacing282 Posted December 5, 2008 Posted December 5, 2008 yeah. Brent, BLHTAZ i believe has done this swap along with many other guys on here.
project88mj Posted December 5, 2008 Author Posted December 5, 2008 yeah a sbc also means new tranny, driveshaft, rear axle, wiring, guages, front axle, motor mounts better brakes ect.,ect.,ect.... it would be way cool but too much money plus i like the idea of a 4.6 or 4.7 stroker better :brows:
FxRacing282 Posted December 5, 2008 Posted December 5, 2008 yeah its a lot of work. stroker sounds nice though.
project88mj Posted December 5, 2008 Author Posted December 5, 2008 the strokers put out 300+hp don't they
BREEZE1 Posted December 5, 2008 Posted December 5, 2008 Low end strokers seem to be around the 230-250hp range. But with all the money your saving from not doing a V8 swap you could put into your engine you would far exceed 300hp. Sorry I always put the dancing banana! But hell whats not to love about a dancing banana????  DO IT!!
