ironhead03
Seems like i remember someone saying that the 97-98 XJ door seals will work on our MJ's and are thicker. Can anyone confirm this for me? Can anyone get their hands on a set for me? Thanks
Boilermaker
Seems like i remember someone saying that the 97-98 XJ door seals will work on our MJ's and are thicker. Can anyone confirm this for me? Yes, the front door seals from a 97 and newer XJ will fit and they are thicker. I'm among several people around here who are using them. Someone posted a pic of them side by side so you could see the difference, can't find it right now tho.
maddzz1
I am using them also and it is a big difference. I got mine from someone who was parting out an XJ on jeepforum. Your best bet is probally a junk yard. Rockauto has them but it doesnt list if they are pre-97 or after 97.
Drahcir495
Yep, they work. Check out page 5 of my build-up thread here -> viewtopic.php?f=7&t=8051&st=0&sk=t&sd=a&start=
LoTGoD
If you want to buy new, you can get some cut to fit XJ weatherstip from 4WD... part# 55235636. (it isn't online) Â We don't stock it, so it will be special order. Looks like the cost is around $20.
mfpdm
Was also thinking of using the 97+ as well. Those of you that have, did you notice any problems with door alignment or harder closing? If so did you make any ajustments? I don't want to put undo binding or pressure on the know weak hinge design. Â
Boilermaker
my doors definitely need to be closed harder, not a full slam tho. No alignment issues and that includes a period of time where i didn't have a door check. When i first bought my truck, it was nearly impossible to hold a conversation at highway speeds. Replacing the door seals helped nearly as much as swapping stationary vent windows for the movable windows.
maddzz1
Definately need to close doors a little harder. Especially the passenger side, maybe because it isnt opened and closed as much :dunno: But the wind noise on the highway is a huge difference. wolfpackjeeper
I swapped them and I love them. Huge difference. Got them off a wrecked 2000 at the junk yard. Cost me $5. I still need to either swap out all the window seals. Or, I may just bite the bullett and go with 97+ doors and upgrade to power windows and door locks while I am at it. watchamakalit
I too have 97+ door seals I robbed from a wrecked one at the JY and I have the same comments as everyone. Doors close harder than before but not abnormally hard. Its like my truck is a much newer and the door seals actually work kinda hard. You will not regret the upgrade. Especially since most junkyards don't consider weatherstriping a valuable part.
