mfpdm
Well in the efforts of trying to get something done to the Wild build, I ran into another road block. The ever so common rusted out window regulator coil. So with all the searching on this subject, my options are, new to the tune of $150 a piece or JY XJ's. I probably hit the JY's but once I get some decent one's, what can be done to prevent this from happening again? I've thought of a couple of ideas like a water inhibitor grease or something of the kind. Also I think I'll replace the tube at the end with a larger one to allow better drainage and route the tube to a fixed hole. Anyone tried anything different that could help?
Eagle
I haven't disassembled a door to try it yet, but after considerable research the parts guru at my dealership and I concluded that -- although it isn't listed for manual windows -- it appears that the regulator cable (a.k.a. "snake") for the power windows can also be used in the manual assembly. I have two of them here, just haven't gotten around to trying it out yet. BLHTAZ, got any comments on whether this looks like a possibility? Is the power window "snake" still available as a replacement part? Wait one! I see a pigtail. Those ARE the electric window regulators. The "snake" part should be available as a separate part, unless it has been discontinued.
jbhill
a good coating of wd 40 should keep em from rusting for a good while.
Eagle
a good coating of wd 40 should keep em from rusting for a good while. Yeah -- at LEAST 15 or 20 minutes. You were joking, right? WD-40 as a long-term rust preventive? Get serious. WD-40 is nothing but kerosene with a bit of paraffin mixed into it.
jtdesigns
Dip them in paraffin should last a bit until the door gets really hot.

I thought in my search I ran across a thread saying the "snake" (I like that term better than coil :D ) was an availible part but I thought it was for the manual ones. I may have mis-read it. Would be good to know if it is and what kind of price. How bout it TAZ, oh parts Guru.
HOrnbrod
The Jeep OEM regulators are junk, I think designed to fail after about three years. I used these regulators from Electric Life when I installed power windows. The "snake" is stainless, and they are about twice as fast as the OEM regulators. A bit cheaper too, and NOT made in China. I think Quadratech sells them separately also.

HOrnbrod
Yep. They are direct replacements.
maddzz1
Would using an anti-seize to coat it instead of grease work as a rust preventer?

Will consider if all else fails.
mjdoa
The "snakes" are available, but are only available for xj front electric windows. Retail for $57 @. Would they work on manual windows?Meh. I tried some regulator cables from newer vehicles dug out of warranty retention.(Yea,they still use them.) But every one I found was larger diameter. All from newer vehicles though. Ended up buying regulators from partstrain.com about $100 @ I think I paid.
