  1. how good is your catalytic converter? it may be a good idea to start there. I managed to pass with 70 on CO, under 5 on nox and 3.2 on HC by putting the Catco NOX catalytic converter on my truck...with the 3.8 camaro and no evap system. i failed the gas cap pressure test though...got a new one and now i'm good :D MAP and 02 would be a good thing to replace now just to be safe as well. i don't think they're that expensive, but like i said if it's not passing then the computer isnt' getting the correct information to control the air/fuel mixture. so start by eliminating the things you KNOW are good, and work your way from there. with those bigger injectors it will put more fuel in as well. did you compensate by putting a catalytic converter that is up to specs on it?
  2. definitely lower control arms, and just to be safe probably uppers? you need a sway bar drop bracket or some nice long disconnects. and with anything over a 3 inch lift you should probably get a new trackbar...an adjustable one so you can make it perfect for your ride. I've got a 3 inch rough country lift on mine with Rough Country Nitro 9000 Shocks. it's an add-a-leaf kit but those shocks make it ride hella smooth. it's real nice i like those.
  3. thanks guys, that's what i needed to know...I've never messed with CB's before which is ironic since I have 3 brand new ones in the box here... a Midland 40 channel, a Cobra 25LTD Classic 40 channel complete with seperate squelch, and a hygain something or another 40 channel the midland is a small newer unit and i'm putting that in the headliner like a center console on my DD...really no point but I have it and i can talk to the truckers :P that one's gettin a window-mount small antenna on it, then the others are goin on my offroader and my brother's respectively.
  4. k. i obviously wasn't the guy who took the old cracked one off lol. i just remember it had holes in it though...but it looked welded and stuff. goes in sometime this spring along with new exhaust and a new front axle (he broke the left ujoint and shaft) and a 5 inch or 6 inch SOA lift :D
  5. that's a pretty shoddy way to do it. my brother just ordered this for his 4.0 mj and i wanted to know before i put it in the new motor...which we had bored .60 over. hope that will work?
  6. Hey can anyone suggest some good CB antennas? I have a midland 40 channel with all the options etc to put in my DD comanche. I want to put a window-mount antenna on this one, but I will still need to know about bigger whip antennas for my other MJ. thanks
  7. yea is it just me or do those things not have holes drilled in them to tighten them down?
  8. no worries man on your bad. I have two 86 comanche's with 2.8's originally. one i did this to it http://www.comancheclub.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=3582 that's a 3.8 camaro engine. it could be less complicated if you don't want the air conditioner....you wouldn't have to cut the frame to do it. I can get you the wiring diagram for that and all my specs. if you want to go that route. downfall to this swap is you have to custom make the exhaust manifolds, y-pipe, and motor mounts. and the other i'm putting a 3.4 camaro engine in. if you want a quick boltin swap then do the camaro 3.4 swap, it BOLTS UP to your tranny and motor mounts. you would just need a 4.0 gas tank and fuel pump or an inline fuel pump off a 88-ish ford 5.9 v8 pickup. If you go that route I can get you all the wiring diagrams you would need...you would need to get the whole engine harness and computer (all in the engine compartment) as well as the fans and such for the motor. basically buy a whole camaro from the junkyard...the 3.4 years were from about 90 to 94. like i said this is the easiest swap, exhaust manifolds bolt on y-pipe as well, bolts to tranny and bolts to the motor mounts. if you do the 3.4 swap, yes it is the same block as the 2.8 except it can't house the mechanical fuel pump. DO NOT switch back to your 2.8 intake and carb. 90% of the problem with the 2.8 is that it's got the vacuum bull$#!& on the carb and that robs it of power. the other 10% is that it's for a small car not a truck. if you don't want to mess around with the fuel injection, edelbrock makes a nice 2 barrel and 4 barrel intake for it. personally I'd go with the 4 barrel and a holley 390cfm carburator were i not going F.I. but i love wiring so I'd go FI...it's really not that hard. let me know what you do, i can get you any wiring diagrams you would need!
  9. yep i just bought an nox catalytic converter i forget who it's made by but it's hi-flow and all that good stuff. we converted my 86 from a 2.8 to a 3.8 camaro engine and did NOT put an evap system in it. but it passed well within limits for wisconsin :D the converter was 104.07 or something i'll take a pic and let you know the maker...only some places sell them. other than that you could seafoam it that removes hydrocarbons, or check over your evap system. Unless you have a new cat. though, i'd just do the cat. converter and be done with it. *edit* the catalytic converter was from Catco. 104 dollars or something around that well worth it :D
  10. yep i hate how 2wd's are lower. we converted mine to 4wd and couldn't find ANY good 4wd springs. on the bright side the rough country lift we got was pretty good and it's actually pretty level now :D
  11. get a new MAP sensor or mass airflow sensor. that's all it is...the computer isn't getting the correct information to mix the fuel.
  12. think, do you want to be stuck out in the middle of nowhere cause you didn't want to pay to have something done perfectly? not having the gears done right could result in busting your rear end and getting stuck. Pete's right...have them set up by a professional. if you want to buy the parts and then have it set up you'll save some money.
  13. real nice, i'm diggin the paint job on the v8. there are plenty of people with that lift combination...but no 31x10.50's most likely. To give you an idea though, I AM going to a 4.5 or 5 inch lift with my 31x10.50's and keeping them cause they look too big with only a 3 inch lift and too small for a 5.5 inch lift. my 2 cents for ya
  14. Or maybe your clutch is worn or your pressure plate is bad? but it's most likely not the slave cylinder...
  15. I don't think part numbers do anyone on this forum very good...we just find something that looks good and mess with it til it fits? haha new stuff is for people with $$$$...not me :P
  16. haha, true. what size are those speakers supposed to be?
  17. so that's what those grilles are for on the corners. weelll it's gonna tkae a little effort but it's not like it's hard...just get speakers that fit and mount them up however you need to, then run 2 wires to your stereo per speaker.
  18. don't go that wide on 15x7 rims. they will curve too far outward then and will wear faster. good rule of thumb for 10.50 tires is 8"wide rims to 10" wide. jeep had factory ones like that. I say this from experience. I've got 31x10.50 Dayton Timberline A/T's on 8" wide rims for my 86 comanche and at 17k miles on them they look like new. my brother has the same tires on his 88 comanche with 22k miles on them, but 7 " rims and they wore funny cause of the curve on the riding surface that was brought on by the narrower rim. he has to buy new ones when he starts driving again.
  19. No i don't think they do. Cherokees with the 6 speeker setup had a sound bar attached to the headliner, 2 doors in the rear hatch, and 2 in the front doors. I've never seen or heard of in-dash ones from factory, but I know with some enginuity you can get them into the kneeboard. some people even put them in the kick panel :D

    Year question

    10-4 on that one Pete
  21. the CPS slot is there. the 2.8 just doesn't use it. any chevy 5 speed 2.8 will have it. I'm not certain about the autos, but i'm sure that it's the same system. I would presume so though.
  22. no mods to fit a 2.8 tranny, just use your clutch and clutch accessories from the 2.5 if that's the engine you have. or the torque converter/flex plate.
  23. i don't want to switch the engine compartment harness...I'm putting a 97 on up dash, doors, door panels, seats, and center console in it. The engine harness really doesn't even matter at all. I only need it to supply power from the battery to the interior cluster, and a few wires to the sending units in the engine compartment. the camaro 3.8 engine is running COMPLETELY seperate from the MJ harness, with the only exceptions being the oil pressure sending unit, temp. sending unit, and the tachometer sending unit and i have the stuff to convert my mj to electric speedo because i'm putting the camaro cruise in it and it needs an electric speedo. also the engine has an idle flair every once in a while that's caused by lack of electronic speedometer.
  24. speedo gears are not interchangeable between the 2.8 tranny's and the 4.0 trannys, in my experience
  25. John said $5 to $8 INCREASE. not minimum. so he'd be getting that much MORE than he is right now. $5 an hour would be tough. I would have to get 3 or 4 jobs to support my JEEP habbit! :D true enough. john did you figure out that rear trim piece yet?
