 OK that settles it, I'm doing that conversion on at least 1 mj. just emailed on the dash, but i wish they didn't just have woodgrain bezels. They're checking on a black one for me before I order it :D

quite so. actually i don't wheel my MJ at all. I only took it offroad once, when the 2.8 was still in it. I didn't much appreciate having mud stuck up in my DD....7 months and infinite washes later. So now I have another 86 that's rusty as heck, needs floors and rockers. and it's a 2.8 :( solution to that problem is a 1993 3.4l Camaro v6. my how i do like my camaro engines....

it's either air in the line, or a bad master or slave. can't be leaking cause it's still full. try and bleed it, and if that doesn't work, check out what the symptoms of a bad master are. I'm gonna go out on a limb and say that it's probably time to buy that kit you were talking about. how many miles are on the clutch? and the slave? -
OYAH SRRY i forgot to say that. i warsh it AFTER i soak the heck outta it with 100% straight up Simple Green. works great. CW I like your whole "put the wife in the cab" idea.. ..surprised it hasn't broken yet :P just kidding...probably works real well. now to find a wife.... shoot...no venues for them, too expensive!

haha, it's all good. just for future reference, I HATE ford. i really don't wanna go ford 8.8 rear on my truck but those disc brakes and that strength....well, i may overcome a little bit of my hate...
-
you are correct of course. I'm going to try and find a wrecked 97 to 01 cherokee and use the interior and doors for me, and as long as i'm repainting it when i swap doors, i may as well convert to the newer style front end. the interior will be fairly easy...i hope. I'll have to swap over the wire harness, minus anything that's required to run the 4.0 since i'm running a seperate harness on the 3.8 anyways. so here's what i plan on doing; new school doors with all power, mirrors included and newer door panels updated interior (black preferably, but charcoal ok) dana 44 or chrysler 8.25 rear end, with 3.53 gears updated front end install the split rear install the camaro keyless entry, and put the trunk release into the toolbox to remove the handles on it (no more key!!!) and 5.5 inch lift (run my 31x10.50 til they die then new rims and tires) also i have to extend my front bumpstops to ensure that the front axle won't hit the oil pan and the upper control arms won't hit the motor mounts. whew, that's alot i wanna do. and i don't even need to!!!! this thing is an endless project, i don't think i'll ever be perfectly happy with it.

ive been using the pressure washer on my engines...with no problems. i just avoid blasting directly onto things like injectors, sensors, and the throttle body.
-
...then i hope he's a fast learner, or has lots of money to spend. it sounds like a cool project to do, but it isn't gonna be as simple as cutting the liftgate in half and sliding the tailgate in there.
-
shista. looks like it's time to repaint the year and a half old paint job (they didn't take the box off like I asked before they painted it for me, and it's rusting at the seam between the cab corners and rocker panels) sooo i guess i'll just swap the doors and repaint the whole thing when i get a chance. 1 thing, my comanche has a post on it, not the same type of clip as the new xj door latch umm...latches onto. can i fit that in there?
-
hope he knows how to fiberglass. and weld/do body work.
-
i hate the ones that bolt on...they look like crap. that's my 2 cents though. and that's the exact bedliner i have, except mine only has either 6 or 8 holes on the side, and those have a screw going through to a corkscrewed pressure plate thingy so that when you turn them the tighten the bedliner to the inside edge of the truck.
-
nope, that's blasphomous. why do you ask?
-
So i see the lowrider will be RHD. where did you come up with the dash and firewall for that? or are you custom making it? i've been wanting to convert my MJ to RHD if i could ever find a 97 plus RHD cherokee for a donor...
-
like the stock mirrors but they extend it. well i think that's what he means, otherwise they're the ones that bolt on the door...i don't like those ones though

JeepcoMJ replied to 88swampedmj's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Nope, it doesn't move in any gear. the kid (a friend of my brother's) beat on the thing pretty bad. the xj is in nice shape and i paid 1200 for it with the intention of reselling it. what happened is he was driving it then all of a sudden it just wouldn't pick up anymore, then it just let go and stopped shifting or anything. from what i gather, the shifter handle still works right, so it "should" shift into gears. kinda seems to me like a clutch slipping or completely dead on a manual...so i'm thinking probably the torque converter? I have no idea how a torque converter actually works as I've only ever driven manual vehicles (gas mileage and burnouts :P) -

haha, oh i'll be replacing a 4.0 aw4 here in the next couple weeks. well, unless it's just the torque converter...haven't figured it out yet when you put the xj in gear and rev it it acts like it's in neutral? makes no noise either. idk what that would mean. what do you have to disconnect to swap out that tranny, and is it hard? do you have to adjust anything at all when you do it? -

yep i know how you feel. I got completely done with the 3.8 conversion on my comanche, and found the clutch was slipping. well i knew i didn't put it in backwards...ended up being that the 3.8 flywheel is 3/8 inch thicker than the 2.8 so i had no dead space between the throwout bearing and the pressure plate. i thought i had accounted for that but apparently not. so i had to do 7 hours worth of work to shave 3/8 of an inch of the back of the throwout bearing and it's plate. then we couldn't get my clutch to bleed...it had dead air in the end of the slave sooo had to fart around with that for awhile. again, at least my slave is external but yea it's no fun in any case. -

JeepcoMJ replied to 88swampedmj's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
well on the bright side, you won't have to do it again for awhile. and if you're smart enough and have a good floor jack you only have to pull the tranny back about 8 inches to access it. you'll need to take the shifter out to do the whole thing, otherwise it'll get stuck in the cab. so if you take it out, remove the shifter, disconnect the 4wd linkage (if you have one), remove the rear driveshaft, disconnect the front one from the axle, get a jack under the tranny and drop the crossmember, then reposition the jack under the middle of the tranny and unbolt it. slide it back a lil bit until you have enough room to access the system, and then proceed to swap out your clutch and slave. had to do this on my truck...otherwise i would have had to cut the brand new exhaust that I made for it. remember to disconnect the vacuum hoses and switches from the wiring. -

definitely get one...those internal slaves are such a !#@$% that you should probably replace it while you have it out, just to be sure that you aren't gonna have problems with it. i want an ax15 though for my truck, but then i'd have to make my own bellhousing or adapt the ax5 60 degree bellhousing to fit. at least then i'd still have my external slave :P -

get one for your truck. yes they fit, but don't put a used one in it. cause then you'll have to redo it sooner rather than later and then you've wasted time. -
10-4 no problem
-
looks good....but not with the black trim still around it. you need to get chrome there for it to look truely great. that's just my opinion though
-
minydigger says they bolted right in with the exception of a few spacers to tighten them up. i thought that myself, but if he got it done then i believe him.
-
i hate you. my stock comanche liner covers the sides and uses screws with these screw type pressure plates to pinch it in. i think there are 8 of them. then 3 rivets on the back of the bed to hold the bottom down. does it look like yours was ever cut down?
-
they're out of a J-truck style wagoneer. simple as that
