Turning a longbed into a shortbed...no BOBS
JeepcoMJ replied to JeepcoMJ's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
you know, that's not a half bad idea.... and you'd only have to chop the frame a lil bit to get it to be right... :D I think we have a winner... for another candidate. -

here's pictures of the damage... it really isn't as bad as it could have been, the worst thing is to get it straight again will kinda suck. and the whole bedside has to be stripped to repaint it... one estimate with a replacement bedside (if it could even be had) was $1760. the other estimate with taking out the dent/kink was $1350. the second one is what will be happening provided this goes through insurance properly. he is at fault, so his insurance company has to pay for it. -

lol. I want a truggy, but I guess I can stress the point that the 3800 is not an offroading machine...so a truggy is just outta the question. -

I think a longbed with the rear of the bed cut off would look about the same as if I cut the tail off my german shepherd. which is really kinda crappy actually. I really don't like bobs. not my thing. it's like, "well hey, that looks like the factory was making their trucks with blind eyes...can't they see that that don't look centered?" and besides, this goes all the way to the wheel well. -

Turning a longbed into a shortbed...no BOBS
JeepcoMJ replied to JeepcoMJ's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
hmm... I have a donor frame up behind the barn. but realistically, it would be just as easy to lay my engine etc. into another jeep as it would to revive this one. keep the ideas coming. but I think it may need to stay longbed. :( -
can it be done? what would be required to do this? the 3800 was backed into in a parking lot today...I was at a stop sign letting a vehicle that had the right of way go, and the kid just backed out. smashed the rear driver's side bedside behind the flare up pretty good. I think it could be fixed...but it wouldn't be fun. so I'm just gettin the wheels turning here and trying to figure out what I should do. I got all the kids insurance stuff/police report filed, etc. but to be honest, I'm parking the 3800, and at this point would like to see it as a 7" lifted, 33" tire, black with visor shortbed and an 8.8 rear. Pong or Dirty, best advice? could the rails be chopped/swapped/reinforced, or would it be best to relocate the mounts for the bed and the axle? this is just an idea. but I don't think I will be driving the thing for much longer this year, so Ideas can fly I guess.

hey, no offense or anything... but I have a hard time sitting and watching REAL football, cause I think it's just a dumb sport full of opinionated and egotistical people. so I find it even HARDER to comprehend fantasy football cause I think it's just pretty ghey. seriously, no offense, just my point of view

hmm, the electrical thing seems like a battery issue to me... that battery is junk that's in there... no idea bout the reverse thing, never done it to me

1986 cherokee 2.5 FS $1500 OBO
JeepcoMJ replied to JeepcoMJ's topic in Member Projects: Your Comanches
yep, it does. because this time next month I will have only this cherokee, and the 3800. both parts trucks will be gone inside 2 weeks here or that's the plan, and then I'll fix this and just drive it. -
From colum to floor shifting
JeepcoMJ replied to ridenlow12's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
completely wrong. no offense. the shifter is a cable operated device. the hole is already there, it just has a plate over it. you actually don't need a hole, but you will need the floor shifter and the plate that goes below it to cover the hole. so you need a non-column shift steering column, a floor shifter assembly, the floor shifter cable that runs to the tranny. and the normal center console. its all direct bolt in -
So it looks like this will be the next thing I work on. its a 1986 2.5 4 cyl 4 door cherokee. from texas. it's 4wd, 5 speed, 4.10 gears. The engine has a bad main bearing, but a brand new head, so the 2.5 MJ I have to part out will be the donor for the motor...the guy was gonna buy the motor from me but i'm getting the truck in trade for another xj I'm getting instead. the cherokee has all power windows/locks, a/c, cruise, tilt column, vent wing windows, sunroof, skid plate package, tow package. and best of all, it's rust free from texas (has about 4 small rust bubbles and none of them are by the rear flares). so that's probably gonna be my DD and won't get anything special done to it...maybe a mild 2" lift and a swingout tire carrier, and definitely Canyon rims, but that's about it.

MORE black seats? :brows: hoow bout that center cap for the steering wheel...and how are the dome lights?
-
ha! Wade I'd take your axle too...
-
they skip quite a bit in their collection though...no comanches or regular cherokees
-
lol. the new guy, opsled, is my dad
-
lol, the "new guy" has been around for quite awhile...via me. he's not stupid when it comes to anything, and he won't say something unless there are facts to back it up
-
suspension in general. YJ was leaf sprung in the rear. TJ was all coils and control arms
