  1. haha. because of the accident I can't modify the 3800 now until everything is all said and done...and i don't really want to sell it, but wade's a good friend and i'll find another one eventually. thought i had one from billybob but guess not??? blah. i have a new toy to play with anyways.
  2. no part time has ONLY 4 selections. 2wd hi 4wd hi Neutral 4wd low full time has 2wd hi 4wd hi part time 4wd hi full time neutral 4wd low full time now, with the "full time" you ONLY run part time in dry conditions where there is no slip between front and rear. the term "full time" can be decieving. the only difference between full time and part time is that you have the 4wd hi part time, which just means that you can run it on dry pavement, or on wet/dry conditions where the road conditions vary. with either transfercase, you should never run full locked 4wd (this means run it in the 4 full selection) on dry pavement. there is no slip between the front and rear axles, and this will cause binding which will destroy the transfercase eventually. these selections are meant for conditions with slip, or "variance between axles" the light in the dash means virtually nothing.
  3. nope, idiot mechanic (previous guy not me) wiring issues. i just poked and prodded and cleaned some connections. works just fine :D
  4. looks good. :brows:
  5. Key word being "had".... WI will no longer test '96 and older vehicles after July 1st. 10-4 on that. sucks though, that i'm registering the new truck before then.
  6. i don't know what you're complaining about, we've had this test for many years in my county.
  7. then i yanked most of the interior. it had rats in it (i caught the last one in the right cab corner... so i needed to get the smell out. found this... Image Not Found Image Not Found Image Not Found Image Not Found Image Not Found Image Not Found Image Not Found Image Not Found Image Not Found Image Not Found Image Not Found Image Not Found Image Not Found Image Not Found the floors are almost immaculate...the rust you see is actually pooled in the low points and is not rust but water. it's really nice actually. planning to go to 4wd with stock 3.55 gears, and 4.5" of lift with 31" tires. this will also keep some form of bench seat (or combination to allow for 3 people), also will get full gauges and i'm keeping the column shift.
  8. picked this up on friday, a friend of mine owns a junkyard and picked it up for me...it's originally from colorado. 1987 shortbed MJ 4.0 Aw4 2wd dana 44 rear, 3.55 gears and either a locker, or some form of limited slip in the rear. has some form of helper springs as well it's got; air conditioner cruise control tilt column, column shift bench seat (blue interior) almost no rust on it, and what is there isn't barely surface rust. this truck is nice enough, that it will stay here. Image Not Found Image Not Found Image Not Found Image Not Found Image Not Found Image Not Found Image Not Found Image Not Found Image Not Found Image Not Found Image Not Found Image Not Found Image Not Found Image Not Found Image Not Found Image Not Found Image Not Found Image Not Found i got it running today...some electrical issues, and it sat for the past 5 years. it needs full fluid flush, and a tune-up. runs choppy, but i'm sure the motor is fine.
  9. thanks. i'm not worried, this is pretty cut and dry. good news, I got the "new" comanche running. man, sitting for 5 years makes a 4.0 run like $#!&. need a good tune-up, fluid flush, oil change, etc. then some brake work at the drums and i should be good to go. :D
  10. i'm sure it will work out. working on the other truck today...i'll be driving it as soon as it's done and working as my DD... ironically, the body is CLEANER than the 3800 by far.
  11. no one was issued tickets. this will be a insurance issue i'm sure. the fault is his, the facts show it. you hit someone in the back side of their vehicle with the front left of yours, it's obvious who was farther out, and who had the right-of-way. I'm prepared to drag it as far as need be to get this repaired 100%. I just fixed everything just a couple weeks ago.
  12. for clarification... I was crossing a highway. highway doesn't have stop lights/signs. so here I am getting ready to go straight across. and here's this other guy guy (who got to the intersection after me) also apparently going straight across. I'm halfway across the intersection when he guns it, looking to the right..and not at me. his turn signal is not on, and he turns right into the side of my truck at easily 15mph, pushing my truck 3 feet over to the right. at the point he collided with me, i was already crossed into the opposite lane from my starting point, he turned early, didn't look, didn't signal, and didn't obey traffic laws. that being said, the officer DID NOT ticket him. my friend jake was in the vehicle with me and also witnessed the exact same events. so, this will be fun
  13. she took another hit. same spot. much, much worse. and...i need to look her over, the hit goes from midway down the flare on to the back of the jeep. it doesn't seem to drive the same and i'm praying it's not junk. here is the album where the pics are at. also in that album is the camaro that i got the motor out of, and my new comanche. here's the sampler pics Image Not Found Image Not Found Image Not Found Image Not Found Image Not Found Image Not Found new comanche Image Not Found Image Not Found Image Not Found Image Not Found Image Not Found Image Not Found Image Not Found Image Not Found Image Not Found Image Not Found Image Not Found Image Not Found Image Not Found Image Not Found Image Not Found Image Not Found Image Not Found Image Not Found the new one is a 1987 shortbed 4.0 auto 2wd with a dana 44 rear and 3.55 gears. it won't run...turns over fine, but the fuel pump doesn't work, and i haven't trouble shot it yet. it's from colorado, almost no rust (floors are almost perfect, and you can see the few spots it does have. should be an easy fix, and i already have everything for a 4wd swap and 4.5" lift with 31" tires :D. it sat in a barn for 5 years, and the interior reaks of mice :brows:
  14. meh. it's a DD i'm not looking for super good flex, and it will eventually get longarm not now though. anyways, this thread is all moot now. it will be awhile, if ever, before the 3800 gets any other parts put on it. pics of the damage to come...
  15. well... i most definitely don't have any money now. didn't spend any, yet. why you ask? well... picking up a 87 shortbed 4.0 2wd automatic torrow. it's basically the 3800's twin, and the body is actually in better shape than the 3800's body (almost zero rust ANYWHERE). white with blue interior, all base model stuff. except it's rocking a dana 44 rear. it doesn't run right now...either a junk motor or some other electrical issues, but I couldn't pass up the "wisconsin price" plans are either swap all my dad's 86 turbo diesel drivetrain in it, or 4wd it and lift to 4.5" with 31x10.50's. oh, my brother picked up an 89 shortbed 4 cyl 4 speed 2wd last friday for another wisconsin price...but it is nowhere near as nice as this one. :D
  16. that is just sexy. all of it. garage, cars, and of course the jeep.
  17. I'd rather have the rocks hit the driveshaft than the gas tank. on a similar question...will the driveshaft contact with the tank at full squat?
  18. I think he was planning on using both c-clip axles to make one decent one until I can get him the dana 35 that's in the 3800 (non-c-clip)
  19. ...not really. the wiring isn't really the issue. it's all of the connectors, sensors, and IIRC (may be wrong) the gauges are run from the engine computer...which means that you need the entire engine bay wiring harness as well. best bet, get aftermarket gauges and make a panel for them that mounts where the 97+ gauges go.

    Over the Hill

:D 79k here. nice to make milestones eh?
  21. eh, $140 shipped at cost...idk if i really do want them though, it takes a helluva lot of grease to grease the RC adjustable control arms.
  22. So I'm lifting the 3800. I've got everything for a 6.5" lift...except the upper control arms. I've got a new front axle at the same time...the current one is bent. gearing going from 3.55 to 4.10's. I've got the dana 44 rear (MJ) with 4.09 rears as well (SOA) getting 33x10.50 BFG AT/KO's from TNT for it. running dakota rear brake hose and YJ fronts. now I have pretty much no money...and I'm debating what to do about the upper control arms. I have a couple options; build a set myself save and buy (don't like this idea since my front upper control arms are close to dead, I've got a bad TRE on the pitman, and I really want to get the regear in.) or the next choice; install my 4.5" lift kit right now. it uses stock uppers, aftermarket fixed lowers, and I've got literally everything to put it in...i can even run my 31" tires for awhile. this would be free, get me the regear right now, and get my speedometer closer to accurate (it is off by 13% right now because of the oversize tires) ...this choice seems best to me, but i don't like doing work twice, and it will be going to 6.5" of lift. anyone have any opinions here? or anyone have a set of 6.5" UCA's? Thanks, Pat
  23. correction, it WILL be impossible. you need the entire 97+ wiring harness, and the mounting for the dash is different. the heater box is also different, so you can't use yours. same with the controls for it, and your vent tubes. this is a much more detailed swap than you're thinking...I want to do it, but I hesitate simply because i don't know if I can do the custom wiring (not to toot my horn or anything, but you are talking to someone who's retrofitted and wired a motor into his comanche...after deciding that I didn't like any of that engine's factory wiring) good luck.
  24. haha. you can't find MJ's up here for that cheap. I can, but you can't :P (the key is that i actively look for them everywhere i drive, i make sure to connect with people who may know where they are, etc...but the average person still pays out the nose for one). sorry for the hostility...i just want an mj parts house that close to me...
