2WD MJ BA10/5 -> 4WD XJ AW4/NP231/Dana30?
JeepcoMJ replied to SuperWade2's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I've not yet looked into it. shoot me a pm about it and I'll give you the resources to do it yourself :D -
I've taken mine. it needs ALOT of lift to clear. 6.5" is a decent size for that length. also, remember to get a bumper that's tucked up high in the rear, and forget carrying a spare tire under there. build protective skids in the back there and you won't have to worry about it much. just watch your wheeling and make sure you can clear it.

well i'm getting damage estimates on the damage sometime soon, and waiting to hear what the police decided to do regarding blame (he turned left into the side of my truck). hopefully i can get to work on the body soon. in the meantime though, i've decided i can't take the gas prices anymore. so in the interest of attempting to regain a bit of gas mileage (I get 18mpg city, 21mpg highway with 31" tires), i tossed on my 235/75R15 goodyear wrangler A/T's...almost new tires. it looks funny with smaller tires and newer xj steel rims (need center caps), and now my speedometer is correct.. :roll: :brows: Image Not Found Image Not Found

NO VACUUM ACCUATOR on front axle
JeepcoMJ replied to twojeeps's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
it's a non-disconnect there is nothing wrong with it. check the right UCA mount and weld it to the axle tube better and you're all set...if you even need to mess with that -
How to "fix" a leaky gas tank
JeepcoMJ replied to Twisty's topic in MJ Tech: DIY Projects and Write-Ups
haha. thanks for the tip add a turndown or turnout on that exhaust so any flame that could happen doesn't turn towards the tank. other than that, it's GREAT! nice angle. your fault or did the rock jump in the way? -
someone did make them work. i know it can be done. shoot me a pm...even though your belt doesn't retract, I would be interested in picking up the pair of them if you're interested in selling them. i know i can rebuild them too and i'd offer, but most likely wouldn't ever send them out again :brows:

2WD MJ BA10/5 -> 4WD XJ AW4/NP231/Dana30?
JeepcoMJ replied to SuperWade2's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
you won't need to swap the harness. a bit of creative wiring will be needed, but i will get you the diagrams to match. you will need a renix-era automatic flexplate as the HO one will have different timing marks for the CPS to pick up on so it won't run (ask me how i know :headpop: ) you'll need to have your 2wd rear shaft shortened to fit just pull the tranny you've got, mount this one up in there, swap pedal assemblies, install auto shifter (you'll need to disassemble this yourself to know what you'll need...but basically everything under the carpet in that area is necessary) install front axle and driveshaft and transfercase linkages. the carpet will need to be out for this project. this requires removing lower trim panels, which also means B-pillars should come out scale of 1 to 10, this is around a 6.5 difficulty. the wiring will be easy, i can walk you through it but basically you just need to hard-wire the NSS from the aw4 to the engine harness. that's about the only issue you'll have. -
unfortunately it's not that easy. you need to drill the MJ bench pedistals off of the ONE seat track each side has. you need two seat tracks so start with xj brackets. remove pedistals from both switch pedistals install. this includes drilling several rivets and spot welds, and either welding the pedistals on, bolting them on, or both (my choice) watch out though. if you like your seats at the current height, but just want buckets, you need to use 2 door xj bucket seats, with NON-SWIVEL pedistals. if you use the swivel pedistals, you will gain 3" in seat height and some people would be into the roof then (I'm 6' tall and i like the extra height)

hate to burst your bubble on the xj tail lights, but they don't mount in an mj tail end. they're entirely different, and you will be doing body work to put them in. of course, it will look sweet, and this is a good project. are you installing the newer/updated wiring harness and everything? we've been having a discussion about the 97+ gauges, which will not work with the old wiring harness and sensors -
$500 Manche... Worth Looking at? *** My new $400 MJ ***
JeepcoMJ replied to SuperWade2's topic in The Pub
if you aren't gonna keep it, and need a motor, i'll bring you a resealed 4.0 and trade it for the truck. save you work, save a manche from being parted out. it's a good find, and truth be told, not a hard fix. at all. :cheers: -
well, you will not get 40mpg is what i know, not what i think. you will lose around 10mpg simply by weight of vehicle. my dad's daily driver is a 1986 MJ with the factory Renault 2.1 turbo, amc20 rear 4.10 gears and ax5 5 speed manual trans. right now the head is cracked in the number 2 precup so he can't run the boost up. he's getting 25mpg even then. (new motor almost ready for install...just waiting on body parts). the highest he's ever gotten, and this was driving like a grandpa, was 33.7mpg with that truck, which is just about 500 miles on one tank. I suggest you make sure you put at least 4.10 gears in the truck, if not 4.56 gears. if you do 4.56's don't expect to beat traffic on the interstate. 4.10's you should keep up but that's about it. this is a good swap, it's worth it for you, but you're not going to average the gas mileage that a volkswagon does. may come close, but won't quite hit it.

a few guys on naxja are debating what the SCCA trucks had for motors, and what there suspension was. so, let's see if there is a guru over here who knows. they were 4 cylinders as they were run in the 4 cylinder class, but i have no idea on suspension.

I have a friend with a hydrogen fuel cell in his land rover, he's currently getting 50 to 60 mpg and yes, it DID work for him. i didn't really believe it and i DO think it will wreck his motor, but it's worked so far for him and emissions actually is close to zero

Adding air conditioner universal kit?
JeepcoMJ replied to 87ComancheLB's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
hold up a bit. let me look at my locals for these parts. i could probably get everything cheap in good shape and send it to you for half of that price, as i'm sure others can too. this will take me a few weeks because i've got to deal with insurance on the 3800's dent, gotta get the new mj going so i can park the 3800 (again...:(), and get set up for the badlands in july. once these are taken care of, i can get what you need. -Pat -
i'd LIKE to tell them that chrysler has no right to own jeep anymore, because they've ruined a perfectly good brand. i WILL tell them to bring back the COMANCHE pickup on an updated chassis with SOLID AXLES
-
keep me in mind either way. i have a 4wd trans and complete external slave cylinder system for a 4 banger...and front driveshaft too...
-
yes but they talk to much when they should be using their mouth for other things... :roll: ;) :eek: anyways...topic at hand? :P

i'm tired of liberals before i even meet them. not to say i'm conservative. everyone whines too much, all politics suck. it's a shame they are needed to run the country.

Yeah the spare motor thought was what I was thinking when I found out it was a 2.5. Believe it or not, I don't think there is anything seriously wrong with the one in it. It sounded better than the one out of the 88. Far as plans, right now I thinking of a couple of options, 1 Kept it stock, fix the motor, and DD it. 2 Same as one, except maybe sell it for a bit of a profit to put into the 88. 3 Same as one, but after the 88 is done, do a 97+ front and interior swap. 4 Part it out and make a small amount of profit. (don't believe this will happen) :cheers: if 4, i could use a bed... or i could use a whole truck...my dad needs a new chassis for the turbo diesel Mj since his is irreperable... pm?

ah. wisconsin. love it! found another one here btw... back to topic, i think it should stay a 4 cylinder. let's make this a poll!
