  1. looks pretty good, tho. just get some aircraft aluminum stripper, pop the wheels off the rims, strip, wash, sand, call it good
  2. :D you help me finish my MJ, I'll help you strip yours...;) this thing is gonna look just as nice and clean as the 3800 used to....just a 4.0. matching trucks almost.
  3. I'm spending around 5 to 7 hours actually working on it per day...but I'm unemployed, and this isn't a new thing for me. the truck was already a '95 H.O. conversion, so all I have to do is block the temp. sender hole on the head, and swap all sensors on to the motor plus the '97+ fuel rail, and call it good. so, realistically, I'm still doing a complete '99 conversion on this thing, as it's a H.O. I would NOT recommend trying to make a renix motor work with it. on the firewall, I cut the hole for the steering column up higher, then used the scraps to weld in the old hole. for the engine to dash harness hole (where the fuse box used to be), I cut the '99 firewall out, made a small square from it, and welded it in, then siliconed the engine bay side of it. For the upper dash mounts, I bought a 4' chunk of aluminum 1/8" angle iron, bent it further, cut it, trimmed it, and screwed it in both on the firewall, and through the factory '87 holes. I had to drill the farthest passenger side hole for the heater box, as that's in a different spot, and I drilled the hole for the part of the engine harness that comes from the passenger side. I had already drilled the new shifter cable hole for the '95 conversion, so that was easy enough. the heater box, column support, and other bracketry for dash related stuff is installed. the dash is now in, and all i have to do is get some more zip screws to finish screwing the top of it in. then I need to swap the complete engine harness etc. out
  4. I know what you mean Pat. It is nice having a turn key driver/wheeler without the worries of break downs. It is almost like having a new truck. yeah. that, and I'm sick of continuous projects. and I needed a truck to throw my meyer's plow on...
  5. eh. easy for me. i like wiring. figured it out, though. I have to use a '97 ECU and TCU to use the '95 trans, since '97 didn't have a spare sensor yet... strangely convenient that I have those parts already... :dunno:
  6. Fixed it for ya. on a blonde, they're never real... :clapping: Perhaps, but just to be sure, we should inspect all of them. yeah. and no simple 1 point inspections. a solid 5 point inspection and a test ride (er...drive) are a must :rotf:
  7. Fixed it for ya. on a blonde, they're never real... :clapping:
  8. ouch. you have 297 joints, right? if so, you're in luck...the parts xj's driver's shaft is in nice shape... i'll give you a good price on it. doesn't look like your inner C is bent, either...
  9. Thanks Ben. My thoughts on this are that it's more road-geared than off-road geared. mechanically, this thing is really reliable (at least engine and trans-wise), so I want to build off of that and make it into a truck I could drive all the way to northern wisconsin, or MOAB, or wherever, and not even have to worry about it.
  10. Thanks :D ...yeah, I was pickin through it already. I don't have a good firewall...just a few good sections around what's different. i'll be cutting out squares of those sections and welding them in. brake booster is in the right location...I actually bolted in the pedal assembly to it in order to locate the steering column bracket I'll be gettin up extra early...I want the swap done tomorrow. I want it running and driving by friday or saturday.
  11. looks like part of the door prop thing.
  12. old dash and dash supports are gone, the column/pedal support is installed. I put the dash together and popped it in place so I could see what it's gonna look like/how it's gonna fit. the old heater box and firewall padding is also out. have to install all of that tomorrow, after I figure out how to mount this damn thing...
  13. The motor is built. That will make up for it.. I got 21mpg highway with 35's on 4.10's. That figures as tho I had 3.07's and 30's...so the 3.55 gears will set me up just fine.
  14. wow i can't remember the last time someone talked to me like i was 4. oh wait, i was 4. you know sometimes its nice to have a "life lesson" skipped. learning from other peoples mistakes, and helping people learn from yours. doesnt have to be a discouraging help...in fact I'm sure shes feeling pretty discouraged as it is without condescending remarks being made. put yourself in that position and then react how YOU would want others to react. that being said, i think you have a good punchline, but your delivery needs some work. step down and back off, buddy. Rob's done more for comanches than you ever will, and he's a Moderator for cripe's sakes. don't walk in here as a newbie to the site and start being a fool.
  15. it's the regular local price. you may get 2 tires that have pretty low tread, but the beauty of it is that I can find them no matter what...
  16. which piece broke? replacing the broken piece requires removing the whole window and frame, but it's worth it...I probably have that piece.
  17. i agree with Eagle. the aftermarkets just don't fit that well.
  18. I'm sorry. many of us are frustrated, because when Sterling Stinger asks a question, and you answer it, he WILL NOT EVER do what you suggest. the guy seriously only seems to post so that he can ignore our advice. flexing out a vehicle is the simplest concept...and it does NOT require that you flex it nearly as much as the ones in the pictures. he can't even grasp the concept, therefore I'm telling him he should get out of the hobby. on top of that, he thinks that Acos or whatever are a good idea....I can buy 4 air shocks and a 12v compressor for the price of an Acos. and, I gotta say...there are certainly a good handful of people here who ARE the "self-proclaimed pro's" you speak of. I'm one of them. bet I could completely tear down and rebuild a comanche faster than you, with a better finished product, and less money spent. (you know, I've only owned what...25 or 26 MJ's torn most of them down to the ground, and 9-10xj's, and 1 zj, plus worked on another 20 or so....)
  19. comanche12, can you PLEASE use proper English?!?!?!....I can't understand a word you type. there's no proper structure, grammer, and word usage in anything you post. it makes it very hard to help you out, man...
  20. no problem. if it had a white front bumper, white end trim on the grille, and black mirrors...it would be my perfect MJ. that said, it's not far off, and those are only aesthetics. it's a good truck...enjoy it to it's fullest (and don't EVER trim the body. learn from someone who regrets doing so...
  21. rubs at full turn/lock, plus at flex. even does so at 3" lift, depending on rim back spacing. I like the look of an MJ on 31" tires. went back to that on my lifted truck, with 4" lift. still looks good then, IMHO
  22. where are you located? I have four complete 3 pane FACTORY sliding rear windows. complete with the frame, 3 panes, and latch...
  23. very nice truck! i wish I owned something nice enough to put a sun reflector in the windshield...
  24. ....in case anyone watching this thread didn't get that last comment.... 3.55 gear sets are the most common xj/mj gear sets. thus, if something breaks, it's easier and cheaper to replace. and I can buy a full set of four 31x10.50R15's any day of the week for under $200....
  25. Honestly with the power to weight, 3.55's and 31's are perfectly acceptable. No point having anything on the truck that's not easily replaced.
