Another "Best Oil" question
ComancheKid45 replied to glundblad's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
According to the other thread anything that is API-SM rated doesnt contain the amount of zinc they our engines would enjoy...API-SL is apprently an older standered and still is considered alright for the 4.0. -
I just ordered a set of 31" Crawler pattern tires today for my MJ....I havent heard a bad review yet

Preferred Oil for our "older" engines???
ComancheKid45 replied to ComancheKid45's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Alright well i scanned through all the Oil selection today at work (Advance Auto Parts) and only came across 3 types that DID NOT have the API-SM code on them somewhere. Those 3 were... Castrol Diesel 15w40 Not the Techron, just plain old diesel castrol, only available in qt Shell Rotella Straight 30w (the Rotella 15w40 now sports the API-SM code) Penzoil HD 30w (this also mentioned it contained Z-7, idk what that means) Every other brand and weight from Vavoline to Quaker State sported API SM on it somewhere, so if your looking for an oil and are worried about this lack of Zinc issue it seems those are the only 3 choices left  Now my next question is, Should i stick with the 15w40 weight or start running straight 30w? :dunno: -
Check your Exhaust manifold bolts as well.....that has seemed 2 fix mine for the time being

Preferred Oil for our "older" engines???
ComancheKid45 replied to ComancheKid45's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Alright so running a "Diesel" formulated oil seem like a good choice.....I currently run Vavoline Premium Blue, I work @ Advance and have time to check things out during the day so is there anywhere on the bottles that say the amount of Zinc or anything on them, We also carry the Chevron Delo oil and I don't think weve sold 1 gallon of that in the 3 months ive been there, so its easly available as well. I know most of these are all opinions but I trust most of you guys for technical answers like this  -
Alright well I was scanning through the latest JP Mag. the other day when I read a small paragraph about running newer oils in the 4.0l and how it was killing them since the 4.0 is a flat tappet engine and most of todays oils don't have the reccommended amount of Zinc to supply proper protection. It also mentioned that Diesel Oil would solve this issue but even now most deisel oils are going to a "clean" setup and removing alot of zinc from the mixtures to help save modern day DPFs. So anyway my question is what brand/type of oil should i be running in my 4.0 or am i just worrying about this more than I should? I currently run Vavoline Diesel 15w40 in both my Jeeps. Thanks for any info and/or clarification

Repainted my bedsides to match nicer and took another shot at correcting my "rev to the moon" issues on intermittent startups. Also handed out another CC business card.....this time to a fella with a SWB Sportruck the same color mine was prior to me recieving it, only with alot less rust

didnt really do anything 1st hand 2 the MJ yesterday but I did leave a business card on a beautiful 92 SWB during 1 of my stops for work and I also found a late 80s XJ Cheif with a Dana 44 rear, i will be asking about that next time I'm @ that garage.

My Family had owned a Chrysler/Dodge/Jeep Dealer and back in 2003 I was just about 15, I always wanted a Jeep Truck and a fella traded 1 in for $400. It was nothing but a rusty 88 Sport truck, with worn out suspension and some other small issues. My dad said Ill get this fixed up for you if you help sand it down and prep it for paint, so throughout the next 6 months or so after school everyday I would goto the Dealership Body shop and work on the truck. It was painted and fixed up and became my 1st vehicle for when I turned 16. Since then Ive grown to love it even more and even though my Family sold that dealership in Aug. of 2008 I'm happy for everything ive learned about Jeeps over the years and will keep this truck untill i just can't drive it anymore, and the way these trucks are with their owners its possible it will outlast me Here is the oldest pics I can find of it.... This was probably only 2-3 months after I brought it home.

The Truck only has a Motion Offroad 1.5" BB on it and the front has ZJ springs on it but thats it. The Alternator is just a 105amp job from Advance Auto. We'll see how long it lasts... :clapping: -
