  1. We bought one put it together, picked up my Cummins and set it back down and took the hoist back. The HF one's arm and angle wasn't long/big enough. It would t pick that little 3.3 Cummins up high enough before it hit the back of the hoist. We went and got one from advanceauto instead. Works great!
  2. My 3.3 Cummins swap. (truck is currently still being built) motor is awesome. http://comancheclub.com/topic/40407-cummins-b33-powered-mj-build/ Motor only weighs about 100 more pounds than 4.0 and has 85hp/215 torque Took about 11 months from the day I bought it the motors to find all the parts and research and get it in and drive it! Way easier than I thought it would be. Me and my dad did everything ourselves in our garage with this being our first diesel and my first motor swap. Lots of custom brackets. Cost about $7500-8000 so far. Not something you just want to do. For the cool factor, it wins in my opinion but as an alternative to a tired 4.0,....no. And a 4bt is waaay bigger than the 3.3.
  3. Did I miss somewhere you talking about your front hitch receiver or....? I see it in pictures after the truck is painted. Looks clean and nice. I want to so something not very noticeable but able to use it to pull from the front
  4. I'd like to know how and what they used to seal the add-on onto the cab since that's pretty much what I'll be doing when I transplant the Chinook camper on an mj next year... Looks clean and well done, obviously it would coming from the "factory" like that.
  5. Well I was saying how good everything was going and haven't had any major problems and last night driving it to lunch at work, the passenger side motor mount broke. Guess that's what I get for welding it with a little 110 welder. I'm taking it to work tonight to weld with our big welders. I'll take the other off and weld it better when it's in the garage for other work.
  6. Just looked at it, the frame of the Toyota is just as long in the rear of the axle is just as long as in front of the axle (just by eyeballing it) and then the bumper extensions are like 3 foot long or longer so it just looks weird because the camper is longer behind the axle than in front.
  7. The frame of the Toyota is extended for the camper. I think. I know there is a bumper mount extension. It's like another 2 foot longer.
  8. That looks pretty good. Good enough to get a damn good idea of it!
  9. yes! somebody get on it! i know theres some talented photoshoppers on here! couple weekends ago we dropped the fuel tank and painted it and cleaned it out really well and replaced the fuel pump. replaced a couple fuel lines and fired it up. ran wide open until we unhooked the gas pedal linkage. pedal "hinge" was rusted up on the floorboard of the cab so we just broke it off and used the linkage in the cab as the pedal now. had to replace the master and slave cylinder and we got to drive it! its a turd! doesnt handle too bad down the road. runs pretty well now. still needs more tuning up but itll be awhile since were about ready to start body work on the cummins MJ! the power inverter and all the lights in the camper work. couldnt get the sink to pump water from the tank but thats way down on the list.
  10. I'll try to get a video soon. But here's somewhat of an update... Odometer says 2000 miles but it's actually about 1700 with the small tires. No major problems so far. Still need to replace valve seals but I will do that while it's in the garage for body work. My temperature gauge stopped working the other night,...I just emailed ISSPRO about it so hope they'll replace it. I noticed my exhaust was hanging a little different the other night too. Investigated and found that where the flanged part of the turbo, where the exhaust clamps on, bolts onto the rest of the turbo housing that 3 of the 4 bolts holding it on were gone. So put more in it ans blue locktited it. I still have a very small but visible and annoying antifreeze leak on the thermostat housing. Think it's around the bolt. That will be fixed soon too. Still have my oil leak from the injection pump. Haven't really had any noticeable death wobble since I made all the new brackets. And I got my second steering stabilizer. On the first one, the ball came out of the socket. Still getting good fuel mileage. I've only filled up 4 times in those 1700 miles or so...not bad
  11. i/we would be down for hatfield mccoy trails. we were wanting to plan a trip out that way (7 hours away) for next year anyways so 2 birds one stone with lots of mjs!!!!!
  12. Did some ROUGH measuring while I was waiting for the gas to siphon out of the tank... Bottom of cab to top of cab- 47" both trucks Back of cab to front of camper...29" about 3" to windshield mj- 29" left about 2" to windshield Back of cab to center of wheel/wheel well...toyota-45" mj-39" Frame Width is 2" wider for the mj but the camper mounts on the outside width of the Toyota frame so I think it's good there. so would this mean I need a lwb for the swap? We've never had a lwb suprisingly.
  13. Where did you find that $3-4k price? That would be a good price, depending on what else you have to buy. It's actually about $6500 plus motor. I read it wrong. But on their website....cotybuilt.com
  14. That looks waaaay more complicated than my swap! Good job to them. But it looks like their set up costs about $3k-4k plus you gotta buy the engine. Not too bad I guess. About what I have in my 3.3..
  15. I'm hoping it'll be really fun to drive! And this truck has a 22r out of a few years newer truck and it's got 95hp! I havent done any measuring yet. Got other projects still going on like the body work on my Cummins mj and brakes and making a hitch for the j10 plus a 4x4 swap on my bro in laws mj. So it'll be a bit.... It'll be way better off on a comanche anyways!
  16. thanks! it is awesome! definitely has enough power and we could still get more out of it with fueling. i race a '97 ford 7.3 powerstroke 5 speed (turd truck) the other night and got beat by a lot... :/ as for top speed right now, with 29" tires, I'm topping out about 65-68 mph. once i put 33s on it then should be able to get more out of it. and mileage is hard to be exact with right now. i have the speedo gear in the tcase for 33s but with 29" tires its a little off. we estimate about 25% or so. so at that estimate, its around 27-30 mpg.
  17. I don't really think I need a tranny temp or exhaust temp gauge...shouldnt be under anymore stress than stock really or any hotter. And I've never done anything with diesels before but I've already got a few more Cummins swaps in my head for when I get the money together. I don't think I'd go with anything other than Cummins, just for their simplicity, until I have a complete understanding of diesels. And thanks. Body work should start in a couple weeks. Anybody know the best rocker replacement panels?
  18. She hit "1000" miles last night! It's actually only about 750 or so with the Speedo gear I have. No major problems so far. Replaced the master cylinder cuz the brakes locked up one day.
  19. when I put new rockers on there shouldnt be any water getting in there right? And I work at a welding shop. We have a powdercoat line that I can just throw my stuff in with the production runs for free
  20. The diff. Covers are powdercoated silver and the shocks are painted with wheel paint that matches almost perfectly.
  21. when we first started it up in the truck it was just blowing white smoke so we figured it was a fuel issue. had the injectors pop tested and one wouldnt open but once it was tested it worked fine. we had turned the fuel way up thinking we needed more fuel and once we got the injectors working right we turned it back down (pic of black smoke was with fuel way up) and it just barely smokes now. have it idling at 850 rpms. built an aluminum overflow bottle for the radiator in the process of building a battery/ storage box for the bed. right now i just have the battery in a plastic toolbox in the bed. now the truck smokes white/blue when you start it up after it sits for a couple hours. thinking its valve stem seals. i got them with the gasket set i ordered last year so ill look into changing them in a couple weeks. a-pillar pod and you can kinda see the tach below it and to the right. hood hit a little on the heater hoses so had to do a little rough trimming. itll work for now until were ready for final body work. mounted my shift console. for some reason it didnt mount up right. when it was screwed in at the 4x4 shifter it didnt line up with the mounting tab on the plate on the tranny tunnel. so i had to drill the rivets out and move the tab over. then with no carpet, the console moves around pretty freely front to back while shifting so we had some edge trim laying around so we threw it on around the bottom. works great.
  22. Mine now, B3.3 Cummins with a 5 speed behind it, is a BLAST to drive. Soo smooth! With the Cummins, power is always there. Its a peppylittle thing. ((ive never drove a manual before this truck, and I've only been driving it 2 days now)
  23. We just went back about a month ago. Comanche and Cherokee parts are getting pretty slim there. We still havemt tried any other yards yet. With Attica being only a little over an hour away, we'll have to set up a date to meet up snd talk Jeeps!
