OK...I am going to just copy my response from the other thread to the same questions asked last night by someone else instead of typing the same thing again... ;) I just went through this nightmare. Mine was up to running at 3000 RPM. Here is the thread detailing what I went through... http://comancheclub.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=12188 Ultimately, as you will see, my issue was a bad ground. The two most common idle issues are vacuum leaks and the IAC. The IAC has no self tests that I could find, but needs a special tool to test it so you just have to look down in the top of the throttle body while it is running to see if it is closing or not. You can also put a couple fingers over the air inlet hole to the IAC and see if it helps, but be careful as the vacuum at that point is very strong if the IAC is stuck open. I posted in the DIY forum about how to do the test on the TPS if you want to do that too. That is here... http://comancheclub.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=12260 An addition to this post... The TPS is not usually the problem with High Idle, but rather would more likely cause a low idle, erratic idle or stalling. It is possible, just not the first thing to look at in my experience. It is easy to test though so why not get it out of the way ;) .

8) Glad th hear it. I have found the Renix system to be a bit of a challenge myself after being in the auto business for many years. These things are definitely a "new challenge". :D

Have to disagree there... My land is worth about $50K and is only .17 acre...(less than a quarter of an acre). The house & land where just recently appraised at $110,000 which is an increase of $35,000 from the previous appraisal done 8 years ago. It was valued at $58,000 in 1985 at the time of original purchase and has been on this land since 1978 when the original owners put it here. It all depends on how they are set up and cared for, but they can actually appreciate in the right situation.

That sounds more like a problem in the wiring on the ignition switch or the possibly the switch itself. The switch is down lower on the column...get down there and take a good look at the wires/connections.

I have heard of the intake gasket being bad and causing this problem too, but it is a lot less likely than the IAC or a vacuum hose leak. I read that same thread over there when I was researching my problem :D  .

I've been quite busy so I'm a bit behind on some stuff around here, but the Metric Ton badge part# 55013576 is dicontinued and gone from all dealerships and warehouses that show nationwide on the Chrysler locator...as has already been surmised ;) .

Yeah...typically the door keys are round. That may just be a generic "stock photo" as a lot of sites like to do, but who knows. ;)

That is the way to go. I can still get the door cylinders, but they come empty and need to be assembled to match the original key. I built one the other day for a guy with an '88 MJ, but he had to bring me his old cylinder to tear apart because I did not have the old style tumblers that are in them any more.

Ignition or door...?

We have lived in our double wide since 1985. In Florida...it has seen multiple hurricanes & tropical storms including Charlie that passed directly over us in 2004 with 110 MPH winds and we only lost a few shingles and a spinner vent off of the roof. We live in a Mobile Home Subdivision so it is much better regulated than a "trailer park" and we all own our land. It is a good affordable option for many people

That is just an Air Vent Valve/Filter. It is supposed to be like that and is simply a one way vent for the vacuum motor on the axle. Your issue has got to be electrical and may be the switch on the axle itself that is bad. Personally...I have disconnected that switch on both of our Jeeps so that irritating light will not come on as I know when it's in 4WD and don't need that light irritating me telling me about it ;) .

It sounds like you probably threw a rod off of the crank shaft, not the cam as the cam is up higher in the block. Anyway...whatever it is...it sucks. '87 - '90 is Renix. If you go '91 or newer you get the HO, but you will have a lot of adapting to do with the newer style computer, fuel injection and engine control system.

It depends on what goes wrong. Mine still worked...just no display to see what you were setting it on because it is digital. I only had it for about 6 months and I sold it to someone that was going to chop it up for a trail rig because of all the troubles with it. All the windows quit working, the evaporator developed a leak ($1200), the OE security system started screwing up and wouldn't let me in the Jeep at times... It had a 5.2L V-8 that only had about 30K on it so it was a great base for what he wanted and I got $2200 out of it :D .

The talk is that they would kill off everything except the 3 plants that have recently had a lot of money spent on them...the Truck plant in Saltillo Mexico and the Jeep & Minivan plants in the US. IF this does happen, it will be a huge legal battle that will likely kill it anyway. It will face reviews that will take up to a year by the Federal Trade Commission and/or the Justice Department. They will also face regulatory issues, lawsuits, congressional hearings and United Auto Workers union protests. It will get REAL expensive... I would be surprised if they could survive this part of the deal financially. What they are doing now means very little compared to the $#!& storm they will face if they actually attempt to do it.

$1200 is a pretty decent deal if it is in good shape. The Grand Cherokees are know for A LOT of electrical problems that can be VERY expensive to fix. If it has all of the goodies...P/W,P/S, PDL, Automatic Temperature Control etc, etc... check them all out real good. The automatic temperature control alone can cost nearly $2000 if it fails...I had a 1994 with that in it... and it failed :headpop: ;)

Yeah...agreed. The 60, 70 & 80 all look very similar although the D80 was not real common.

Depends on how old, but I would think it should be a D70 or D80...

Do you have Hard Water Marks on your glass?
BLHTAZ replied to xj_dummy's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Looks good. I am assuming that you used some VERY FINE form of steel wool as it seems that steel wool would scratch the glass and make problems worse to me. -
Agreed... I don't want anyone to think I am angry or "worked up" over this. I just want folks to be educated on what the "Rules" are (per our country) and make the decision that they feel is appropriate for them

On the serious side...the bikini is a horrible disrespect and I don't like it. On the lighter side...if I ran in to her, I would likely have to explain that what she is doing is a terrible thing and demand that she remove the offensive clothing IMMEDIATELY :brows:

That's the one I was looking for...

I looked in the DIY forum, but didn't see it. I know several people on here have done it and someone did a nice write up with pics and everything. It must be in one of the Project Threads. I know there is a fair amount of cutting, drilling and changing to do in the process, but it works out nicely when done.

How the hell would GM "buy" any part of anything when they can't support themselves. I have not really heard anything much about it other than people talking around here about the "GM / Chrysler Merge". I just look at it as another BS rumor
