....I've been searching thru the post , I remember someone telling how to use the more common TPS in place of the expensive one (that I now need to replace). Anyone bookmark it ? I'm running an '88 6cyl/5spd , parts store showin mine uses the "not in stock, we gotta order that one" that cost so dang much.

these guys know there stuff about the sensors....but you did say it seems to happen when you apply the brakes. just an off throttle coincidence, but you may want to check the vacuum line that runs from the intake manifold to the power brake booster and also the fitting/gromet at the booster. Can't help it, I'm from the old school, thats what I'd check 1st because of your description.

....I already have the 87 Comanche 2wd sportruk "Sgt. Rock" with the 6 and 5spd. I' do not yet know what engine/trans is in the Cherokee but it is a 4x4 truck. my question is how much of the stuff from a 4door 2000 Cherokee will interchange with the 87 Comanche? front doors ? Seat/console ? 4x4 parts ? size of factory wheels? what rear end is under the 2000 model? My trucks door window regulators are in bad shape, could swap out entire door assemblies. Bench seat is shot, would Cherokee buckets drop in? I could scavenge several interior parts plus my fuse block is suffering from a long ago hydraulic clutch leak and so on. I've blown 2 of the Dana 35's and this one sounds a little iffy recently. I guess I could salvage my engine into the Cherokee, but what good would that be !!! I still need to lay eyes on the truck to assess the condition of all these items, I'm assuming it is in decent condition as the truck belongs to a friends son, I don't think he'd pawn off his junk on me. Any ideas will be appreciated....TIA , Rocketwheels

Team Cherokee Back Window?
rocketwheels replied to Dirteatr717's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I've got a 4piece slider in Sgt. Rock, it has held up for 3 years now, but (maybe because of the installation) the windows don't slide very well. but, HEY, where else you gonna find a NEW rear window? -
....looks like the bulkhead is just sheetmetal, this kinda concerns me. I have no welding experience , but I have a few friends that do. Just checking in with you guys for any words of wisdom in this matter. I don't really relish the idea of taking off the door and then driving around in the cold ! Gotta keep old Sgt. Rock rolling in the hills this winter toting firewood, thats how my homes heater stays warm !

Cranks But won't Turn Over
rocketwheels replied to redwolf624's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Yep, it is a GM unit. shims? Do our trucks with the v6 come with shims usually? I don't know, never had a Gm powered MJ. But I've had plenty old style GM's and they all have starter shims. Plus, your spark/ignition problems could be inside the dizzy if it is a typical GM unit. Whats that dealy called under the rotor in the diz? Plenty S-10's on the side of the road intermitantly back in the day due to it failing. I'm going from GM experiences, hope these apply to the v6 powered MJ -
You always need a winch........ to pull out your friends (insert any other make of truck here), and yeah, lights are good !! Very Good !!! A 2wd Comanche with good tires is better in most normal, off road, job related, having fun, nasty conditions than any other truck ! I can vouch !!

Engine Dies After Braking Hard
rocketwheels replied to frankMart's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Could be a bad ecu connector contact, but......I'm with Comanche fan on the vacuum leak.Seen this many times an many makes of cars. check the hose from intake to booster, elbow/checkvalve at the booster and maybe even the booster itself. It may just be a coincidence that it happened while you were doing something else. -
I'm going back again this weekend, I'll try to remember to bring the camera !

Thanks , guys !! Yep, found a few good spots but the river has been up over the banks due to uncommon amounts of rain, so it really isn't good for taking the kids there just yet...a little slimy. The tires are Goodyear Wrangler 235/75-15's on the front and Goodyear Wrangler Authoritys 31x10.5-15's on the back. It's only 2wd so wasn't any need to spend the extra $ on the front tires, those Authoritys are twice the price of the wrangler !

I finally got the title for old Sgt. Rock (don't ask how long I drove it incorrectly titled, you don't really want to know). I went thru a company that performed what in essence was a "mechanics lien". I bought the truck as junk from a little old lady out of chicken shed where it had sat for over 7 years. her hubby had died, she was selling the property and goin into assisted living and apparently didn't have anyone in the family to perform Power of Attorney. She never found the title and then the Alzheimers set in so I was ruined on the original title, since she couldnt help file for "Lost Title". I was just going to buy another junker and title this truck as such with no intent on ever reselling it. Since we don't have any inspections here in 'Bama I could have gotten away with it. Lucky I found this company that could help me get the title. cost me $150 bucks total ! Each state is different, but check into companies that can do the "Mechanics Lien" or "Abandoned Vehicle", maybe they can help you out. The company I used was Jason Steward Enterprises http://salethisvehicle.com/, maybe they can steer you to someone in your state. Good Luck !!!

....no big rutted trails, just a little wet and muddy down by the Tennessee river, scouting out some bank fishing spots to take the kids. Fun to get off the pavement everyonce in a while ! http://public.fotki.com/rocketwheels/steves-cars/page8.html

Hey !! I spoke with a neighbor that works for a beer/drink company. Told him what we were planning, he was excited to help out. He says that he should be able to find us a couple of the older coolers that are stashed at the warehouse. I asked him for one of the full size ( about as big as a 50 gallon drum) and one of the redbull type ones for your truck (nearly as tall but only 2/3rd the diameter) and with hinged lids if possible. I went by our local Habitat Re-store and found several phone/cable router and computer boxes, some with switches and lights...also stopped by a Mikes Warehouse, they sell overstock and junk from containers and overstock buyouts. There I found several automotive, industrial and also communications grade type cables with connectors and receivers already install. Would make for some good "technical" junk to run between the holding bin and the outer switch boxes. Trying to source some large red rotator beacons without paying for actual law enforcement grade lights. The ones from Spencers or the Party Store are cheap , just a little cheesy.

Cool Deal !! I will check into some of our local beer/softdrink vendors and see if I can get a couple of those freee standing coolers for us. I think I have a line on some rotating red beacons , plus we have a habitat humanity type recycling place that has all kinds of old and leftover home and buisness building supplies. I think I remember seeing communications / security / electronic consoles , switch boxes, cameras and other lit up appliances and stuff. I'm sure that is how they built the props to begin with, since each one was a little different from each other. I think that it could all be wired up simply to a 12v car battery hidden inside the unit. I'm on the prowl !

How has this project been coming along? I'm interested in the decal you made and where you may have found the other images. I considered using one of those free standing beer coolers from a corner store as the cylinder, already has the correct clear convex lid installed. I figured I'd use old security cameras and computer cases/communications junk. I think something very convincing can be created. I'm intending to do this too, so any help you need or can lend to me, I'm here for you ! Steve

I Finally Got It......brought Home The J10...
rocketwheels replied to rocketwheels's topic in The Pub
Got the J-10 fired up today. Went ahead and replaced the fuel pump and added 2 fuel filters in line (a visible paper one and a visible mesh screen one). The new pump wasn't pumping so went backward from there and replaced every rubber fuel line from the carb on back to the tank. Tried to blow backward with my airline, but something is clogging the line at or in the tank. Unless it rains, I'll try to drop the tank tomorrow and replace the last rubber line connecting to it. Lucky it doesn't have much old gas in it ! That big 360 with the holley and the glass packs sure sounds good !
