HO injectors in a non HO?
SoloCamo replied to project88mj's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Any noticeable power increase? -
Supercharger question?????????
SoloCamo replied to GaruMJ's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
As long as you do supporting mods for the S/C such as larger injectors, cooling, etc I don't see there being a problem. 4.56's with 31's isn't something I'd exactly want to daily drive, though. However, for this purpose it would probably be great. Maybe 4.10's would be a better choice though so you aren't shifting gears as much while climbing and will keep you in the power band longer. -
With the HO injectors, isn't there a noticeable increase in fuel consumption? Also, doesn't it run overly rich?

Running Cold - Poor Gas Mileage
SoloCamo replied to summerinmaine's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Care to elaborate on how it will cause problems? I'm having zero problems with my non-dealer Thermo :huh???: -
As long as it's got good compression and is running well, don't worry about it. Mileage is just a number, not a benchmark of when to replace it. Keep the fluids clean and keep up on the maintenance and it will probably roll over 300k without a hitch, especially if it's mostly highway mileage. :chillin:

General rule of thumb, or specific to our setups? How much would an auto add on to that roughly? I'm by no means a dyno expert so this is all good info to me  Not much running stock otherwise
-
114? I know there is parasitic loss due to the auto, but I figured it would be more in the ball park of 130-140ish at the wheels. This is of course on a new motor

Heh, I play all those games. We may need to go head to head one day in a CS:S knife fight

Wind noise? Check your window seals, mainly if you have moving vent windows. They pretty much suck, so most people either swap em out or seal them. Rpms running high? Fairly common and generally very easy fix. Clean the IAC with some throttle body cleaner and it should drop you back down where you need to be. Using some SeaFoam for the intake system will do wonders for you as well (as I've discovered this week myself ) Seats suck? Buckets or bench? The bench that was in my '87 IMO isn't the greatest as it collapsed (20 yrs of abuse). However, the buckets in my '88 minus a small tear are looking excellent and have held up nicely to the test of time. Rattly interior? Check your bolts here and there and all the small things you wouldn't think twice about (such as the visor being slightly loose in my case). 20 years of use and abuse will do a lot to an interior. Good luck!

Compared to other small trucks I've driven (but not owned): -Handles excellent compared to the same "generation" pickups (but will obviously not compare to recent small pickups like an S-10 in that department) -Power wise as you've noticed it also wins hands down -Payload and towing capacity are excellent in it's class as well and probably the best out there for the size -Gas mileage isn't exactly the greatest for the 4.0, but in return you get the reliability and power that you won't find in other small pickups. However, it's not horrible and will be only slightly worse (and many times equal to) than the V6 models of other trucks.

Hm....what's currently in my house. 2 -original NES's 1 -SNES 1 -Sega Genesis 1 -Atari (can't recall model) 4 -N64's (two of them broken) 2 -Gamecubes 2 -Xbox's (one broken and parted out, sort of) 1 -PS1 1 -PS2 1 -VirtualBoy 3 -Nintendo DS 1 -Original Gameboy 1 -Gameboy Color 4 -Gameboy Advance 2 - Gaming PC's So yea....my family games quite a bit

-Bad on the highway? Well if you are used to a small car or any recent car for that matter, of course an 80's pickup truck isn't going to be anywhere near that level of smoothness up there. However, the front end probably just needs some work that's all, as my 88 feels completely stable at highway speeds (and above  ) -Sucks to work on? It's by far one of the easiest out there in my book. :dunno: -Has a cheap feel to it? Care to elaborate? The interior may not be BMW class, but again, for an 80's Jeep pickup truck it's rather nice in my opinion. Fix some things and drive it for a month or so, then report back to us. I guarantee you will feel differently ;)

Seriously? What were you thinking? :wall: I hope you plan to repair it... :(

As nice of a rare classic it is, I don't think I would trade both my offroad vehicles for it. Let alone the MJ.

17's are perfect on a pure street Comanche, no more no less. :chillin:

Aren't TJ coils softer, though? __________________ Anyways, the shackles did quite a job. You went with stock XJ ones?

I love their spelling of comanche... "Jeep Camanche"

Quick Tire advice please!
SoloCamo replied to bilgamesh's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Here's a suggestion.... Pick up a set of 235/70/15's. They are about the same height as 225/75/15's (in fact, slightly shorter) and give you the width advantage which = far better traction which is a must in the rain if you haven't noticed already. Compared to stock it's a nice improvement on and offroad. '88 4x2 here as well ;) My next set of tires will probably be some Firestone Indy 500's as mine is 99% street with the occasional very sandy trail. Wide and smooth tires work great for what I use the truck for  -
What shocks did you opt for?

tested a way to show the video...but it failed.

The worlds Fastest Comanche
SoloCamo replied to Worlds Fastest Comanche's topic in Member Projects: Your Comanches
I 100% Fully Support this project, and to be honest if I lived closer I would lend a helping hand towards it. However, I'm hoping that my self being skeptical about the numbers needed to go those speeds is more of a educated criticism that is intended to help, not put down. I would love to see a Comanche go those speeds as it would be one hell of a site, however I just don't see it doing with 500whp. That's all. -
Mine is slowly making it's way to an all around street performer....very slowly. :wall: I don't want to go all out to the extent you did as it will probably always be my daily driver...but as the funds roll in I'm hoping to build a 4.6-4.7L stroker motor, lowered 1.5" up front and 2" out back on some wider tires with a D44 out back. Those are just basic plans, though :smart: We will see how long it takes me to get anything done though as I'm in a tight money bind at the moment :shake:

The worlds Fastest Comanche
SoloCamo replied to Worlds Fastest Comanche's topic in Member Projects: Your Comanches
Oh I fully understand the difference between wheel hp and hp at the crank. Do you have a link to the press releases? I'm sorry, I just really have a hard time believing any of it. When a Ferrari Enzo tops out at about 215mph with well over 600hp with a much larger motor, and an amazingly more aerodynamic body (albeit much lower too)...I just don't see how a 1990 brick with 500hp is doing 210mph. :hmm: I mean, even the Corvette ZR1, with 638hp at the crank off of a Supercharged 6.2L v8...it's still making well over 500hp at the wheels and it's drag limited to 205mph. So, by what you claim, Banks has somehow engineered, (in 1990 no less) a brick that can go 210mph with roughly 500hp at the wheels through a 5.0 . I'm not being skeptical to bust your balls...it's just that all I've learned over my years seems to disagree with the claims. :dunno: -
The worlds Fastest Comanche
SoloCamo replied to Worlds Fastest Comanche's topic in Member Projects: Your Comanches
Nope, Chevy claims it's drag limited to 186mph. Put it this way.... C6 - 186mph drag limited - 430hp 6.2L V8 Z06 - 198mph drag limited - 505hp 7.0L V8 ZR1 - 205mph drag limited - 638hp 6.2L Supercharged V8 It takes a lot to get up there, and all of these cars are far more aerodynamic than you can ever make a comanche. Another good example here is the RAM SRT-10...although it weighs in at 5,000lbs, it has a V10 pushing out 500hp/525ftlbs of torque ripped right out of the viper. It's top speed? Roughly 155mph. Weight means nothing on top-speed, it's just raw power and aerodynamics after 100mph. Drag plays a huge role, especially when you consider what you are trying to do here, and thus my reasoning behind being debby downer in this case. I just don't see how a N/A 4.3L I6 in a comanche is going to push out anywhere near the power to attain 186mph. -
