I thought I had all my ducks in a row with this one, and then I went out to the shop yesterday to try and put together all the pieces. Nope... of course not. In my haste of looking around online at what others have done I made the mistake of not actually MEASURING what would fit in the cowl and what wouldn't. I very happily stopped at the local parts place and picked up your average "this is going to make my car go so fast" style cone filter, went home to cut some very large holes, only to find out that my newly purchased "this is going to make my car go so fast" style cone filter is way too big to fit into the cowl. Bummer. Okay... had some running around to do in town yesterday so I stopped again. They were just unpacking a new batch of other style "this is going to make my car go so fast" style cone filters and I though that I had a winner. THOUGHT is the key word there. Everything looked like it would fit, but it was going to be tight. Looks promising? Nope... double fail. After expelling all options of fairly cheap local parts store "this is going to make my car go so fast" style cone filters, I did what I should've done in the first place and did some looking around online at dimensions I ordered up a K&N RU-5111. It's has a 3" flange and the dimensions are 4.5" at the fat end, 3.5" at the skinny end, and 5.75" tall minus the flange which is .75". It's really the 4.5" measurement that's the real magic of it. The cowl can be cut so it'll just barely fit between some nice stamped sheet metal lines, but I've got about 5.5" of depth to work with. Then there's the middle of the cowl that cuts in to make room for the valve cover which necks down to just over 3.5". It'll be tight, but I also wanted to go with something that won't choke anything down. Fingers crossed on this one. I've got some very large holes cut into the cowl that should really be filled with something to make it worthwhile.

It's there at the beginning and then later on as well... sorta...

She's a beaut, Clark!
-
Started on something new today. Does it add anything performance wise?... probably not. Will make a racket in the interior?... maybe. Am I making it just for the simple fact that I wanted to?... yup.
-
Because they're beautiful and are good for so much more than just MJ donors. Who needs an XJ rear seat anyhow? :dunno: Might even settle for just a rear seat cover.
-
Hey gang! I'm kind of on the market for a set of black seat fabric and head rests. Looking for both for the front two buckets and for the rear bench as well in this pattern... Obviously the cleaner the better. The rear seat doesn't need to be in awesome shape, but just as long as there aren't any huge rips. Not in a huge hurry as it's for a project that's been off and on for years now. To be honest, they're not even for a Jeep project. :peek: So?... anyone?

That's all that matters! Looking forward to more pictures of the new rear. What sending unit is in that new fuel cell? Does it work with the factory gauge? -
Street Comanche 59? I don't know....

It's genuine. http://comancheclub.com/topic/46737-1987-jeep-street-comanche-san-diego-ca/ http://comancheclub.com/topic/45893-the-sleeper-jeeper-street-comanche-59/ -
I remember back changing out the clutch in one of my old MJs using a floor jack with a homemade cradle on it. If you get the truck high enough on jack stands, align the jack in such a way that you can just work in a straight line with it. Pull the trans back, lower it, and then pull it back towards the rear axle to give enough room to take care of the clutch. I don't really see the need to separate the transfer case from the trans.

Project "Eliminator"

Never fails, Wade... no updates for a while and then when you do there's always less and less original steel. :shake: Remember when?... :D -
All the cool kids are doing it.

Jim, I think you need this.

... and it fits up in there pretty tight... The long box guys have it easy with their miles of room both in the bed and under it. I've played around with fitting a 33 under my old Pioneer and it wasn't near the squeeze that it is to fit a 30 under a short box! While I was fiddling around back there, I checked to make sure that my new license plate light doesn't interfere with the tailgate... Neat little LED unit I found on Amazon. They had mixed reviews, but for the space it takes up I'll take a chance on it. Speaking of lights... ... the headlights are getting some attention too. I've got a three core copper radiator waiting to go in soon that'll free up tons of space for putting in the new harness. Had to move things around in the garage back to "summer mode" and I think this is the first time the Eliminator and the Ape have ever been properly introduced... I remember back when I thought that having a 3.5" lifted truck on 31s was a big deal! :laughin: They both look a little sad right now. The Eliminator is due for a face lift while the Ape just looks like that all the time. I'm still getting bumpers sorted out for the truck. The rear needs a little bit of finish welding on it and then paint, and I need to pick the best one out of my pile of bumpers for the front. Yup... as stated before, going back to a stock bumper. I really miss the clean looks of this truck from when I first got it! That big ugly bumper was never intended to be hung on it! Fortunately, it's just nuts, bolts, and paint that's been mostly holding things back. That and a long search for a couple very specific pieces of trim is the start of a sign of things to come. I think it looks a little Chiefish, but that was a risk I was willing to take. That bright (currently dirty as hell) red paint really pops with a touch of chrome! That's right, Don... you're slowly converting another. :shake: -

Right?! Just ordered up a set of Jeep tailgate decals... finally. Now that the spare tire is back under the bed were it belongs, the rear of the truck needs to properly advertise. :brows: -

Ball is rolling on this little guy again. -
I stopped back at the salvage yard today for a couple small parts and saw this poor XJ again. Seems as though I had my "disregard everything rusty" glasses on the day. Granted, it's still salvageable, but it's a little worse than I first remembered it. The rockers are surprisingly nice, the doors all have some rust, and I was very surprised with how the floors look from underneath. Looks like a couple very small holes and some puckering at the seams, but no giant pieces of carpet falling through. The interior is beautiful. Power everything, although I'm not sure if anything works as it still needs a battery. I asked if I could start it, but the couple guys that were there were... and I quote... "super busy" with their hacking away at a something or other sedan sub frame. Here's some better pictures of it. Just for fun, I did ask the owner this time if he'd be interested in selling it. He kind of himmed and hawed over the idea because he got such a good deal on it and that they're kind of rare. The rarity didn't seem to bother him though with his intentions of tooling around the yard with it. I talked with his wife again on my way out. She says to hang in there and that he knows that they have my number. It's starting to get picked over unfortunately... I hate to admit that I'm actually a guilty party of that as well. She said that the more that it gets picked, he'll either be more willing to either sell or scrap it. It could still make for a driver from the looks of it if it had taillights again. Not sure what works and what doesn't but I would imagine that it would mainly be considered a drivetrain donor. Some work has been done on the engine at some point. I was a bit low with my first post as it actually shows 221k on the odometer. Still a damn shame seeing it there... waiting outside their garage... quietly sobbing to itself... :(

1.5L VW diesel powered Dodge Rampage So many layers of awesomeness colliding in my eyes!

:shake: Nor have you paid attention to the badge on the fender. :D
-
Agreed. I had to mount the spare and a toolbox on the front of my camper to get the tongue weight just right.
-
Finished product... bare frames... whatever you've got, Jim. I don't think there's a whole lot of science that goes into any pickup box trailer regardless of make or model, but even just the basics are fun to look at. Just like anything else, there's mild to wild. Simplicity, I really like how the frame of Rob's trailer turned out that it was just the back half of a Comanche frame with a tongue welded on... ... others have utilized more of the original frame too... ... and then when I built mine, I started completely from scratch out of stainless... The bottom line is that people love pictures regardless of how it's built!
-
It's based after the original three. Max is on his own and then yet again falls into someone else's business.

Bringing back an old thread!... again! So this finally happened, eh? Went and saw it at the drive-in this weekend. Mel or no Mel, I think this was right on par with classic Mad Max movies. Not much for a plot... action... cars... action.... people dying... action... more people dying... action... the end. :D
